Summary: A quick review
Review: A wonderful DVD to provide a history of shows of this incredible group of musicians. This is real good value, with tons of live footage that has been squeezed in, including a number of songs from a fans only acoustic show. Strangely enough it was one of the extras; their accompanying commentary that I found so insightful. My only gripe about the DVD is that I'd preferred to have been able to watch an entire concert rather than footage interspersed with music videos, documentary inserts...so I look forward to their Live in Budokan.

Summary: A must have!
Review: DT fans, I have been waiting for Live from Tokyo to come out on DVD for since DVD players were on the market. I have had the VHS for the Tokyo show for at least 7 years now. It's my opinion that this was one of their best shows ever recorded. I have seen them many times, even before James joined DT when When Dream and Day Unite was just an import and when Kevin Moore was with them and I have to say that the Tokyo show just rocks. There were all in their prime then. The 2nd DVD in the set is just awesome as well. I was really pleased that they included members of Yes, Marillion and Napalm Death playing with them. I paid about 29.00 for the VHS on the Tokyo show on VHS back in the day, now only half the price and with a 2nd DVD. For the price, you cannot pass this up!

Summary: Great, but doesn't deserve this much hype.
Review: I find this DVD to be only worthy of 4 stars. Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge Dream Theater fan and have most their albums but, in comparison to some of their other stuff, is kinda boring. I know it's old, but, nonetheless, I still don't enjoy watching it AS MUCH as Live Scenes from NY and Budokan (although I still love watching they're live show anyday).

Review: I loved this double dvd set. I felt the approach they took to do the videos, with some bits of them walking around and doing other things was really good. I liked the Derek Sherinian studio interludes, as well as the Kevin Moore quotes. The in disc commentary was just hilarious. When you listen to the actual background commentary done later, its even mroe hilarious to listen to. The song selections were good as well. This is a must have for and Dream Theater fan, the Images in Tokyo dvd I feel is worth the 15$ asking price.

Summary: Even (especially) if you already have the VHS...
Review: I managed to get my hands on Live in Tokyo back in 1995, and the move to capture the content on DVD was a good one. Images and Words was the defining album for Dream Theater, and seeing the performance highlights exactly why. While the band has continued to grow and their style has evolved, its amazing to return back to the roots of this amazing band and really appreciate just how talented these guys are. I'm amazed when I reflect back and realize that I enjoy the music and live shows as much now as I did then. While I believe Jordan has added a musical element that DT was lacking, there's something to be said for looking back 10 years to see where the band has come from.

While perhaps not quite as strong, 5 Years in a Live Time is really a good watch and a good addition to the music DVD collection. And for this price, it can't be beat.

Of course, any DT fan won't need convincing to purchase this DVD set; you probably already have it. But for the casual fan who has a sincere respect for amazing progressive rock music played to perfection by some of the most amazing, talented musicians still active, this set is definitely worth the relatively minimal investment for what you receive.

You won't regret it.

Summary: Dream Theater: Excellence in Images and Sounds
Review: The day I bought this DVD, I spent hours late at night entranced watching it with headphones to avoid waking up the neighbors. Wow... Just Wow... That's all I could say. The sound is great (You can listen to it in 5.1 surround. There is also the option to watch it while listening to commentaries) and the movie quality is very very good. I believe no band on the face ot the earth can play like Dream Theater does. They rock and watching them play I get goosebumps. How on earth can a band be so GOOD?
The videos are excellent and the live performances will take your breath away. Virtuosity shows all along, specially Portnoy, Petrucci and Myung though the other members are also very good. I also laughed as some of it is really hilarious. To make it short, if you want to see a Rock band that rips their intruments with virtuosity as well as plays tight and rocks hard, buy this DVD. And 2 discs with over 3 hours for $15, it is definitely worth it.

Summary: Get back in touch with DT
Review: This DVD set is really wonderful. If you're a recent dream theater fan (i.e. Scenes from a Memory and beyond) and would like to know about the band's works during the early 1990's, this is the DVD for you! While it's true that the video editing is not at its best (although quality is amazing), you will still be amazed by the live performances... these guys can really pull a show.

2 DVD's for such a cheap price and beautiful content... Every progressive fan should get it.

Summary: A must......
Review: This is a must especialy for a Australian fan whom up until now have not had the chance to see these guys in concert. Do not buy this collection expecting to see and hear top notch production as these film where taken from video tape particularly the Live in Tokyo the volume is quite low. However what the production value lacks the Band makes up for in shear brilliance.
My favorite out of the set is the second coming in just on 2 hours we see the later 90's version of Dream Theater in 6 or 7 different concerts with tour video in between. In fact it will make you wish that they would put out the Rotterdam show and the Paris show (last) on their own.
I guess this is for the die hard fan but you don't by Dream Theater on a whim, enjoy.
