Summary: the wait is over!
Review: by the looks of all these reviews this could be one of the best selling concert dvds.i must admit the first thing i noticed when placing the discs in was the sound.the surrounds had excessive crowd noise, and the front sound stage had geddys voice on the thin side.the bass response was very deep though, and instruments sounded very good over all.the mix seem to tighten up a bit around track three or four.track listing was identical to the show i saw in San Diego, minus "closer to the heart".this is by far the greatest live show ive ever seen, and the discs are a great memory of the show.thank you rush!disc two has a great documentary of the "boys in brazil",three multi-angle songs, and two easter-eggs!a bytor and the snow dog visual from the tour, and a promo clip for anthem.have fun figuring them out!also included is a great insert and fantastic art work!a solid dvd package.so,dont let all these review scare you off, pick this up and fill in that hole on your dvd rack!enjoy...p.s.the 2.0 sound is an option and sounds even better.

Summary: Wow after the first shock bad 5.1 sound? It is GREAT in 2.0!
Review: Well I will not lie this DVD really stunk at first because the 5.1 sound is horrible!!!! Yes I have a HK AVR525 so don't give me any BS this baby rocks. But as soon as the crowd got tired the sound was just started sneaking out of the crowd noise! Then I watched the multi angle cuts on disk 2 and they were only done in 2.0 stereo. It was like watch a different concert. So I put disk one back in and put the sound on 2.0 stereo. WOW this DVD is the best. I love it. I've been a rush fan sense 1980 and have seen them 5 times. This is better then any of those past concerts. Because I get to watch it over over and over again. Thanks RUSH!

Summary: Every One Should Stop Complaining....and understand...
Review: Having seen the boys several times on various tours and now having the DVD in my hands...if you are an audiophile, and have read the liner notes in the booklet, you would understand the circumstances of the "muddy sound mix" and "crowd noise" and other things. Which, I would rather hear in the concert and not have it NOT mixed out. Its called AMBIENCE. It is what the part of being at a concert.

That being said, the concert was F*&$@% awesome.

I will say this, the 2.0 stereo mix is for you people with out the fancy surround sound decoders. 5.1 for me is just a tad too loud.

Best part of the DVD. The documentary. Watching the By-Tor Cartoon, great sense of humor guys. And the songs?? Did I forget to mention the songs??

Ok, enough swooning for now. It deserves the stars it gets.

Having watched it a few times, its like a bottle of wine, as it ages, it just gets better. The best documented Rush concert I have seen, with out all the chopped out edits. And if you are
awaiting the guys on their tour in the coming year for their 30th anniversary this is just a preview of things to come.

And if you are still complaining about the sound quality of the DVD, thats still your problem! Happy Holidays to all!

Summary: Well Worth the Wait
Review: I'll be brief. If you are even a casual Rush fan, you will love this DVD. Hardcore fans - well, I know you have it already. The sound quality is amazingly close to what they sounded like when I saw them in August of 2002, and that's a good thing. You get nearly three hours of music - the entire show. There is also a very cool documentary on the second DVD - it gives you a good idea of what goes on behind the scenes and gives you a real appreciation for the road crew.

Just buy it. You will not be disappointed.

Summary: are we all listening to same thing??
Review: I love Rush but,I must say this DvD is a dissapointment. The filming is fine and im sure the the musicianship is good but, you simply cant hear it! The Audio mix on this DvD Is the worst I have ever heard, all you can hear is the crowd and the sound seems to echo,It is awefull.I waited a long time for something like this and I cant hear it!This is not a knock on rush but rather a knock on the audio people terrible job.It sounds like they placed a mic in the audiance and thats it.Dont waste your money on something that sounds this bad.

Summary: An emotional hit to my brain cells
Review: Is not only that I am Brazilian living in the US and a fan for more than 15 years that I wanted to write about this magical masterpiece DVD. I will keep it and show other generations, how you mix technichal talent, the best music ever and an emotional crowd (Rush's largest concerts in history) in a perfect set list with great footage and sound. This is worth every penny and after seing their concerts twice in the US, I regret to not fly back home and join those that waited for so long (like me) to have the chance to sing even instrumental songs with the greatest band ever. Thanks to those three guys from Toronto and all the Brazilian friends back home that together, presented me with this gift for life!

Summary: The Best DVD in Existence
Review: The new Rush in Rio DVD is, in a word, outstanding. This is the first release from the company that produced it, and their mission statement is to provide audio and video superior to what we are used to seeing. They have succeeded. The video is well-done, and the audio is incredible - in Dolby Digital mode I feel like I'm really there. The only downside I can possibly think of is that, while everyone will enjoy the DVD, you need a nice home theatre setup to really appreciate all the work put in to this DVD. They have put some VERY nice, subtle encoding on the rear channels, and the difference in audio quality between stereo, pro logic, and dolby digital formats is unbelievable.

I own many concerts on DVD, and I have to say this is the finest of them all - and that is an assessment made on the quality of the production, not bias toward the band.

Speaking of the band, they look tired. The liner notes say they WERE tired. Seems like they just don't put the energy into their shows like they did in the 80's, but I guess when I'm in my 50's I won't jump around and holler like I do now, either! :)

This DVD is highly recommended. A quick note on the CD: the mastering IS NOT like it is on the DVD. For those of you who have the "bootleg" show "Mystic Dreams", it is alot like that, but the absence of everything other than Geddy's bass isn't quite as severe as it is on the "bootleg". The only reason to buy the CD is for the two extra songs, and I'd only recommend that if you are a hardcore fan.

Happy listening!

Summary: Exquisite - And I Don't Do Reviews, I'm doing one...
Review: I am a long time Rush Fan and have been able to change with them through the years. Any fan of Rush should feel confident that this purchase is in their best interest. Their set list is most respectable. It is topped, for me, only by the one that appears in audio form on the "Different Stages" collection.

The sound on the DVD is indeed a bit "driven" but is true to what I experienced in the Gorge in George, WA. I was thrilled to know their fan base is so huge in Brazil and the documentary is tasteful, entertaining, and informative. I was glad to see the interview elements and the respect shown Neil in "handle[ing] press". The low end in the audio is hard to handle because there is so much required to drive it while keeping it crisp in an outdoor venue. Fan noise? Well it was less than I experienced first hand.

I am never tired of Rush. I have been disappointed only when I thought they had lost their "center" or passion on some projects. I speculate they would say something similar. This collection of live music is truly exceptional. The documentary makes the purchase all the more worth while. I have not yet sampled the CD but I intend to buy it.

If you are looking for a polished studio album look for it in their studio releases. If you trust a fan who knows the material, buy this collection. At least see it. I am short and didn't get to see everything at the show. I assure you, you will on these DVDs. A few of the best tunes are featured multiangle versions on the second disk... YYZ with cameras dedicated to the instruments.

I hope you find my review helpful.

Respectfully,

An Informed, Humble, and Satified Fan

Summary: RUSH AT YOUR STORE
Review: The DVD we all been waiting for is finally arrive. The sound and picture are excellent. The filming is superb with enough cameras too show you multiple angles of the band. One thing that strikes me immediately is the noise that 40,000 very enthousiastic people can do.It can be a little distracting when you want ear the music in a normal level. Despite that little detail, the DVD offers what you can expect from this great band. Not to be missed is the documentary of the band touring in Brazil. It's at times funny and instructive at other times. Also the multiple angle section is great and innovative.
