Summary: What a Waste!!
Review: As I am writing my review here, I am watching the DVD. I am totally disappointed with RUSH nowadays.. It seems that they are slowly fading away with their live performance. I am not a die hard fan of rush but rather on and off.. with couple of albums in hand. Rush songs are almost the same with one another... Geddy Lee's vocals seems to be monotosous all the time irregardless of new or old song being played. Just got bored with his voice. On the other hand a Trio band cannot do anything much because they have limited hands. As said here.. it tells you that you won't see anything spectacular beside 3 guys jamming around. Neil Peart on the other hand is such an unemotional drummer on stage. His playing and entire body is so stiff. No facial expression and no communication and eye contact to the fans. He was just playing drums to himself. No doubt he is a great drummer. And all these Rio Fans thinks Rush is like some GOD who just came to them after all these years. I bet they do not have concerts often in their country. Screaming fans so into Rush. Rush is nothing. There are millions of great bands out there that could put RUSH into the graves so easily. I am thankful to myself that I did not purchase this DVD. It was from a friend of mine who bought it. I do hope no one would ever purchase this useless DVD. It's not worth seeing it. I was fast forwarding one song to another because I got so bored. To Rush I have one thing to say to 3 of you guys. RETIRE.....

Summary: Audio and Video is great!
Review: Just bought the DVD yesterday and I must say that is one of the best DVD purchases I have ever made. (I have been a Rush Fan since Signals came out.) . I had my mind set on buying this DVD the minute it came out of course, certain drawbacks including some mixed ratings from other users here had me debating if I should just wait or what. Well, I had no choice but to wait. So I finally I had the chance to get it! The SOUND is AWESOME (gotta play it loud to feel the concert ambience). The VIDEO is IMPRESSIVE!!! THE TRIO is SUPERB!! The FANS are MAGNIFICENT! Their performance is by far one of if not the best!! The acoustic version of RESIST is ADMIRABLE. Neil keeps just getting better and better and his Drum and percussion performance is AWE-INSPIRING. I have always thought ALEX as the more serious timid guy but is the fun guy and he should be on Saturday night live sometime :) but he is IMMENSE on the Guitar. GEDDY is AMAZING on tha BASS! I would personally like to thank Rush for all their hard work they put into making the tours. You only have to admire their work ethics and dedication to their music and work. This DVD offers a glimpse of what goes on. I can only wish and hope that they will tour at least one more time! Make it an Encore Tour :). My wife (who hasn't seen them live) and I weren't able to attend the last tourstop here in Dallas due to us expecting our first child but we hope someday this will be achieved. If you are a Longtime Rush fan or just a Rock music band, RUSH IN RIO will certainly be a compliment to your list.

Summary: Audio Crap
Review: I think this may be the most disappointing music DVD purchase I've ever made. As a huge Rush (and Neil Peart) fan for years and a dedicated drummer, I have to say the sound quality of this recording is just plain inexcusable. When I first saw this DVD I couldn't wait to get it home and watch it. Now I think it will likely only get a single viewing (with the possible exception of the Neil Peart drum solo). I as I watched this for the first time I couldn't believe that a band so dedicated to musicianship and quality song writing could release such crap. This mix reminds me of going to a local bar where there's no sound engineer and the guitar player is playing a cranked 100W Marshall-and that (and the crowd noise) is the only thing you hear! And, by the way, someone happened to stick a cheap microphone way out in the crowd and record it. If sound quality is at all important to you, save your money. It's just plain bad...

Summary: special night
Review: O.K. People, read with me, THIS DVD SOUNDS EXACTLY LIKE IT'S SUPPOSED TO SOUND.Don't you people read?(I'm refering to Neil's liner notes, of course.)The sound was tweaked as little as possible and the crowd noise was intentionaly left in.The sound isn't "THE CHEAP SEATS",it's 40,000 screaming maniacs who are experiencing Rush live for the first time, EVER!!What happened those 3 nights was incredibly special,as much for the band as it was for those kids. I thought the DVD captured that feeling perfectly.
I CANNOT BELIEVE that I actually read here the words 'RUSH' and 'THEY SOLD OUT' in the same sentence, and the person wasn't talking about a concert sellout. This coming from a guy who claims he "knows this band inside out,so don't argue with" him.
Pal,if you knew the band so well, you'd know that they don't 'market' their music towards anybody, except themselves. Not kids, not gen-Xers,not baby boomers, nobody. They make music for themselves and if someone else likes it,that's just icing on the cake.
People, if you are a 'TRUE' Rush fan,and want to get some goose bumps, and remember what it felt to see the spectacle of Rush for the very first time,(I still remember that feeling 22 years ago),buy this DVD.

Summary: Great Performance, Can't understand bad reviews
Review: This is Great show by Rush. I cannot understand why a fan of Rush would not be completely statisfied. There are no weakness in the performance and the audience loved the show. The band is extremely talented, playing there own complicated kind of rock music. When I read some of the negative reviews people were giving I thought they must be nuts. The shots are great and the audio is fine. If you are a Rush fan you will love it !!

Summary: If you're a RUSH fan this DVD is a MUST!
Review: This is RUSH like you never have seen or heard them. It's perfect. Their last live concert performance of Vapor Trails in front of 40,000 wildly excited fans. It's all the best RUSH songs in perfect sound and video quality. I have not been able to see their last two tours in person and this DVD played through my BOSE surround sound almost makes up for being their in person.

If you like RUSH you'll be sorry if you don't buy this. I'm serious!

Summary: It IS Rush, but it could have been MUCH BETTER.
Review: First off, I am a drummer, keyboard player, and audiophile with a really hip 2 spkr. $20,000 stereo. Most of all, a Rush fan for decades! I know this band inside and out, so don't argue with me :)

Every Video (or DVD) that Rush does is worse than the last -- this one being the worst (aside from actually being a DVD which gives it the POTENTIAL of being the best). "A Show of Hands" had less sound on it, but you could hear instruments clearer etc. "Grace Under Pressure" and best of all the "Exit Stage Left" video (which has been deleted) give a much truer picture of the excitement that is the "Rush" in Rush.

This DVD is Rush trying to be someone else to fit into the rest of their competitive market -- Metallica, Nirvana -- whatever. Unfortunately, this calculated gamble is probably working out better for them, otherwise, they would give "RUSH" back to us. THE SOUND IS "THE CHEAP SEATS" (as another reviewer said) all mashed together like potato salad -- and really "hard and cold" sounding (ok -- I could update my DVD player a bit but it wouldn't help much as I have other DVD's that are FAB.) The video is clear of course, and showed much of the audience (which gave a concert "feeling") but as another reviewer mentioned -- camera work sucked and wasn't consistent with the band. The second DVD documentary was too long, and boring for the most part, and revealed little of importance. The camera angles part I didn't even understand at all. Multiple camera angles to chose from, that are always moving around, so what is the point? In other words, when you watch all the angles moving together, they all start overlapping each other. It could have been simpler -- one camera in one position for one instrument etc. -- too confusing and pointless!

I ALMOST FORGOT -- THE DRUM SOLO : If you think that this good drumming, you are "Peartwashed". Yes, he is amazing, WHEN HE WANTS TO BE (listen to "YYZ" on "Exit Stage Left") but isn't anything to what he used to be 22 years ago. His ELECTRONICS : I also own a Roland TD-7 drumkit not quite as good as the one he has now. Whilst his definitely would be the first drum kit on the market I would buy for pracitising, for concert use it doesn't impress me, and is A CHEAP SUBSTITUTE for all that stuff he used to set up years ago, that made songs like the trees sound so amazing, -- it looked cool too!

Lastly, this "easter egg" business. Do yourself a favour, and just go to http://www.dvdreview.com/eastereggs/collect/520.html for this one!

Overall, Rush's music (and production!) started to gradually go downward after the "Exit Stage Left" CD which was their climax.
There have been a few trends upwards ("Power Windows" etc.) but it has not been the rule. They started marketing their music to the "kids" you see -- They sold out. Too bad they don't tour with Max (Webster) anymore -- to bad Max aren't around.

If you want a serious DVD -- "Yes -- Keys to Ascension" (see my review) or "Roger Waters -- In the Flesh". FAB!

Summary: And the correct combination is 2112
Review: I can see that some people are very demanding, the sound quality is, to me, great. Yes, there is a lot of audience noise, it's suppose to give you the feeling that you are there among them!! and it works. In any case, you be the judge, pick up a copy. Anthem 75 clip (It's incredible!!!), in Disc 2 you have 3 songs, select 2112 ??, 'nuff said.

Summary: Top Notch Musicians...
Review: gives a top notch performance in Rio. i can't understand the fuss about sound: i played standard dolby stereo and just about blew my subwoofer. this DVD kicks major a--!! read the booklet and see what the band went through to get this recorded.

the 3 audio CD is just as excellent. if this release doesn't get them an invitation into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, there should a global protest.

listening to this release gives me faith in the music industry, an industry suffering from a severe lack of creative talented musicians of this calibre. buy this DVD and Cd, you will not regret it for a second...

Summary: The words MAJOR DISAPPOINTMENT come to mind!
Review: Man...what a disappointment this long awaited DVD was! The sound quality SUCKED! At first I thought there was something wrong with the DVD. Pretty bad when you own a great surround sound system and it still sounds terrible. It sounded better just playing it through the TV speaker. I have several of their old VHS tapes and they sound way better than this DVD. They call that a Dolby 5.1 recording. What is up with that??? I am a major RUSH fan and was looking forward to kicking back and jamming with the boys and when I turned it on I couldn't believe it! You can't hear any cymbal crashes or licks from "The Professor", you don't hear the guitar and Geddy sounds like he is singing in a can! You know, Rush prides itself on quality workmanship and pleasing their fans...the producers of this one should be ashamed! With the strides we have made over the years in technology it should have ROCKED! MAJOR DISAPOINTMENT...MAJOR...HAVE I MADE MY POINT HERE??!!!
