Summary: WHAT A BIG SURPRISE
Review: If you are afraid of getting this DVD because you think that a 1976 concert must sound and look poor, you'll be completely surprised and amazed at what they have done with this concert. I bet its image and audio are better than some of the concerts recorded nowadays. Anybody would think that it was recorded yesterday. Ok, maybe I'm exaggerating. Let's just say that the footage is unmistakenly from the 70's, but it's completely clean and unscratched. We have some points of comparison: Wild World, as the encore of the concert, is presented as an extra, and the image is untreated (and although is Dolby Digital, it doesn't have the enhanced 5.1 sorround sound of the concert). And the same for what for me is a high point in this collection: the original promo video for "Father and son" which sounds very good, but still keeps the visual marks of time. But it matters very little, the main thing is that we're allowed to see and have one of those rare pre-MTV videos.
I don't know how they did it, but the quality is incredible, and most of all, this is the greatest gift a Cat Stevens fan can get. And they sure did a great favor to the music in general and to the not so old generations, by giving us (at last) the oppotunity of having a concert of a great artist that decided to give up his fame because of religious conversion. What we have here is a proof of the genius that Cat Stevens was. And it couldn't have been better presented. Get it. You'll be grateful the DVD technology exists.

Summary: Majikat Evolves into 21st Century Multi Media Billboard for
Review: peace.

The 2004 release of Cat Stevens 1976 US Majikcat Concert Tour, along with archived vintage slices of his life circa 1971 performances, is THE BEST CHRISTMAS GIFT for anyone who knew music between 1971-1977 -- parents, grandparents, whoever you want to make real happy. This is an awesome DVD.

The magicians, who served as his warm-up act during the tour, are phenomenal in their own right. The clarity of this vaulted concert footage, heretofore untouched, brings you right on to the stage with Cat. There is a very obvious broken string, undoubtedly necessary due to the way he stroked and stoked his guitar.

Some licks, acoustic though he was. Rolling his head in unison/ compassion to the music, like Stevie Wonder, this LIVE footage will make you remember the pride we took -- from what he produced. This show is the best of the best!!!

All his best, most remembered songs are included, with cool DVD options -- the best being interview footage shot within (Ithink) the past year. There's even a section to pull discography and lyrics, as if you didn't remember the words.

Cat Stevens brings back his greatest stuff, and explains where his personal wanderings for truth in the purpose and value of life have led him.

Watching this Peace Train, Wild World, Where Do the Children Play, and even the one "Frankenstein" reference. . . bring back how good his music and message were -- and still are. This dude is a thinking man's musician.

This rates a MUST OWN!

Review: Really a very good concert. Cat seems a little rushed and impatient in places, but overall very good.
Worth the purchase price, even without the bonus fatwah.

Summary: We Miss You Cat. Hope You'll Come Back Soon!!!!
Review: There is absolutely nothing "dated" about this 1976 performance by Cat Stevens. Not only did Stevens write some of the most poignant songs of the seventies, he was also one of the most brillant song stylists of the era. In this concert performance he delivers his lyrical message with such inner strength and warmth, you simply don't wont this evening to end. I can't imagine anyone who is even mildly familiar with Cat Stevens who would not be immensely entertained watching this concert.

In addition the sound and vidieo quality of this DVD is as good as anything being produced by todays cutting edge technology. In short I couldn't find any asspect of Majikat (Earth Tour 1976) I wasn't totally thrilled with. It's simply flawless, as was Cat Stevens artistry. We miss you Cat. Hope you'll come bace soon.

Summary: Doesn't get much better than this
Review: This DVD is really a two-fer. A superb concert video and also a personal message from Yusuf (Cat) explaining his conversion to Islam.

The concert footage is beautiful and the sound is superb. The set list is pulled largely from his best early 70's albums. The band is tight and Cat is in fine voice. And it's fun to see the Afro and "Chachi" haircuts and the goofy clothes we wore back then.

The personal message from Yusuf was also very satisfying to me. I was a huge Cat fan in the 70's and have puzzled over his withdrawal from the limelight. The mainstream media (which feeds on negativity), has given us a distorted image of Yusuf as a fundamental Islamic radical. The interview showed nothing of the sort. Yusuf is a man who, after a near death experience, had a spiritual awakening. His newfound religious conviction gave him inner peace, something which happens to many of us when we mature and take measure of our life. The only "problem" is, he chose a religion which is unpopular and misunderstood by most westerners.

Summary: A Must Have DVD!
Review: This is an excellent DVD for anyone that enjoys viewing concerts at home on their TV. The video and audio quality of this DVD is excellent. We're talking studio quality, as apposed to the noisy live concert quality that a viewer might expect. Cat Stevens is such a great entertainer playing solo acoustic guitar, piano, and singing that the minimal backup that he gets is only an added plus. There are also performances of songs in the extra features on this DVD which I had to look at twice just to check to see if he was lip-sinking to a studio pre-recording, but his phrasing of the lyrics are different enough to tell that they are just great on camera performances.

For the Cat Stevens fan, there are lots of extra features on this DVD that are very informative about the Cat Stevens of "then and now". It's certainly a surprise to see Cat Stevens after some 30 years, and to see him speak (with British accent) in recent interviews about his past, and to see him as he is today.

This is a must have DVD for any concert viewer or Cat Stevens fan.
