Summary: This is why DVD was invented
Review: After getting a 5-speaker surround sound DVD system, I wondered what the heck the big deal was. Sure, action movies sounded & looked really great, but what's the point of surround sound on a film like Erin Brockovich. After watching Roxy's live show, I now know the joys of DVD. The sights & sounds of this disc are quite spectacular. The band is in great form, displaying genuine enthusiasm & affection about being back together. After countles/pointless reunions, here's one that matters. A generation that grew up in the 1990s on the recorded tunes of Roxy Music, but missed out on the real thing, finally had the opportunity to see them on stage. I was fortunate to see them in New York City on this tour & it was very memorable. I feel lucky to have this disc as a souvenir. For your pleasure!

Summary: 5.0 SURROUND SOUND, no kidding!
Review: At first I thought it was just a typo on the back cover but it really is what it says - nothing from your sub-woofer, just the 5 surround speakers,! Yes, Roll N Roll without bass! Only record companies/producers can answer. I guess it¡¦s probably OK if you only have a stereo system (to be fair, it does sound great on a 2 speaker system). However, I spent so much $ on my high-end home theatre 5.1 surround sound system, I¡¦m just disappointed!¡K I¡¦m not going to comment on the picture, song selection, personnel etc since I agree with previous reviewers. Just be forewarned about the sound!

Summary: Must have for Roxy Music fans
Review: Having seen the band a couple of months before this concert, I was very happy to find this concert recording. I was happier still when I saw and heard the DVD. Both the images and the sound are excellent. If you have a DTS home theater system, the sound is absolutely amazing. Of course none of this would matter if the performances were poor but here Roxy Music are splendid. The song selection is perfect and draws from all Roxy Music eras. Original members Bryan Ferry, Phil Manzanera, Andy MacKay and Paul Thompson are joined by other top notch musicians including Chris Spedding. Highly recommended for any Roxy Music fan.

Review: I also caught a 2001 world tour performance (Sat in Boston). I am extremely pleased that this DVD includes "Mother of Pearl", which they had not played at my concert.
To start off with "Remake/Remodel", "Street Life", & "Ladytron" was masterful!! Lucy Wilkins twisting Eno's knobs was great & her remake of Eddie Jobson's violin solo on "Out Of The Blue" is fab. Chris Spedding is solid & TGPT (Paul Thompson-drums) is downright thunderous. Phil Manzanera displays so, so many styles & advertises himself as perhaps THE most under-recognized guitar virtuoso around. Colin Good makes tremendous contributions & his piano intro to "A Song For Europe" is great. The totally amazing thing is the depth of Roxy's book over their history - They could have played 20 different tunes & I still would have been overjoyed with their selection. Also, 30 year old compositions still sound "into the future". The lyrics are so well-written (and delivered by Bryan Ferry). Sonics stupendous & light show first rate!!! The only (very minor) complaint I have is the sax/oboe player Andy MacKay no longer duck walks - probably due to his back. For performers in their 50's, these guys are just stupendous! Thank God for ROXY MUSIC!

Summary: Just another reunion tour
Review: I bought this DVD in the hope it would replace my destroyed VHS copy of The High Road, which was my favorite concert video of a band so obviously enjoying themselves. Live at the Apollo shows that time hasn't been gentle to Phil, Andy and Paul; Bryan is pretty ageless, but even without a middle-aged gut he shows the same boredom and weariness as the other original Roxy Music members. It was a depressing spectacle, especially the "documentary" included in the DVD. If you can find The High Road on VHS, snap it up instead.

Summary: The Ultimate--For Your Pleasure
Review: I finally received my DVD yesterday after waiting a month for it to be shipped...it was so worth the wait! I watched it twice last night! Seeing up close the joy & energy in everyone's face while performing is something I missed from my seat during the August 2001 show in L.A. One cannot sit still during "Both Ends Burning". A must for any Roxy fan. If you're not a fan yet you will be when you see this! Thanks Amazon...

Summary: Essential for any Roxy fan
Review: I had high expectations for this DVD being a Roxy Music fan of many years... but this actually exceeded them! I went to one of the concert performances in the U.S. and thought it was a great show, but when you are sitting in the audience some distance away you can only see so much. This video succeeds in putting you 'into' the performance. The sound quality, camera work and video production are absolutely first rate and on par with the artistry of the band. This is not a 'concert documentary' with lots of mediocre camera work like so many others, this is a visual and aural work of art in its own right. Clearly they used the "A-team" on this one. If you love Roxy Music buy it! You will not be disappointed.

Summary: A "must-have" DVD for Roxy/Brian Ferry fans
Review: I pretty much agree with the other reviews I've read here. This is a great concert DVD that's spoiled only by the choppy editing. When you watch a concert in real life, you don't spend 2 seconds looking at the drummer, then 1.5 seconds looking at the lead singer then 3 seconds looking at the bass guitarist's left hand, etc... I don't know why so many editors of concert films think they have to continuously keep changing the camera angle every few seconds in order to hold your interest. I would much rather watch an entire Phil Manzanera guitar solo from one camera shot, showing only him, thank you. The Brian Ferry Live in Paris DVD did a much better job in this regard. Other than that, it's a great DVD. Good sound and some great performances by Ferry, Manzanera et al. There are even a couple of unexpected, more obscure Roxy tunes included, such as "Mother of Pearl". The bonus tracks include a brief documentary with the band and an option to watch the concert with the song lyrics appearing in subtitles! I've never seen that on any concert video before. I only wish I knew more people who were Roxy fans so I could invite them over to watch this! Some bands are better off never re-uniting, but that can't be said about Roxy- they sound as good or better than ever.

Summary: Roxy Never Left The Building
Review: I put the DVD into the player with some trepidation. Loved Roxy at their peak in the Seventies and Eighties, but hadn't heard from / of them for the best part of 15 years. I needn't have worried one bit. The Man and the Band are in fine form, both visually and sonically, and perform truly first rate renditions of their best album and single tracks in this 2001 concert recording.
If you weren't a big Roxy fan, there will be a few unfamiliar tunes during the first half of the disc, but keep watching as the second half is basically a back-to-back Greatest Hits sequence and is a real treat for everybody. And talk about hits, what truly great hits they were indeed. Innovative, catchy and supremely well-crafted, they have stood the test of time very well, which is more than can be said about the music from most other "visual" bands of the era. From the lilting Avalon, through the addictive Love Is The Drug and the slightly manic Street Life, this is British pop/rock of the highest caliber. The lucky London Apollo audience certainly had a good time, and so did I! Why I even caught a glimpse of Mr. Ferry smiling a couple of times!
Video production and audio quality are also excellent, though to split hairs, I would have liked more than one "overhead flying camera" route, and from memory, the lead vocals were a little more upfront in the original renditions. This can be easily rectified by increasing center channel volume in a surround sound setup. Pan-and-Scan viewers will experience exceptional camera framing, while Wide-screen viewers will feel more immersed in the entire concert atmosphere. As a personal observation, I found the drum sound a little "soft" (intentionally perhaps, for that Seventies sound?), with less transients than other recent recordings. Conversely, I found the stage a little clinical (what, no dry ice?!?) and anyone hoping to see the "trademark" seductive Roxy ladies of yore will have to make do with more contemporary versions (not a bad thing, really). Other than providing lyrics, the only other extra on the DVD is a tastefully executed short documentary, informally hosted by band member Phil Manzanera, of the band preparing for and beginning the tour series.
So here we have it Ladies and Gentlemen. A truly fine DVD memento from a band whose music and legacy will live on and on, For Your Pleasure!
