Rating: Summary: Pink Floyd Pulse Is King of Any Music Video Review: Whenever I am asked what concert film recording is my favorite, I have never hesitated to reply with a resounding: PINK FLOYD Pulse Live. It is hands down, the finest musical performance ever captured on film by ANY band and I will argue to the death with anyone who wishes to challenge. Further, in keeping with their tradition, the visual component is astonishing. The band's musical virtuosity and staying power is self-evident and a timeles tribute to the magic and genius that is Pink Floyd. After countless viewings, it still gives me chills up my spine as I watch with jaws agape. If you don't own this one, you are missing a major ingredient of music appreciation. It is shameful that the producers of this piece have not yet released a DVD version. Perhaps as of this writing, it is on the way to stores. Ed Curley, Imageworks, Naperville, IL
Rating: Summary: Pink Floyd ( Pluse ) Review: Unbelievable, Unbelievable, Unbelievable, is all I can say after viewing this dvd concert. I've seen Pink Floyd live in Washington, d.c. in the 70's. I wish I could have seen this one live as well. I want to thank Amazon for for getting me in touch with (vs44124). Thats who had the dvd new in a box for [$]. It was well forth that much and more believe me!!! The sound and video was perfect. If you have a great 5.1 suround sound system as I do your going to love this concert. Two others you may want to consider is, Talking Heads, (Stop Making Sence), and Brain Setzer 0rchestra Live in Japan. Both are equaly as good.
Rating: Summary: Pulse Review: I have Pulse in VHS format and have watched it many times. This is by far the best live concert I have ever scene. I need this DVD for my laptop when I travel.

Rating: Summary: Stunna! Review: Absolutely stunning show captured beautifully in this great video. I have seen over 300 concerts in my lifetime and no other show I've seen can even think of considering to attempt to even approach the quality, depth, breadth and imagination of the 2 Floyd shows I've seen in '89 and '94. "Delicate Sounds of Thunder" captures the '89 tour and "Pulse", the '94 tour (and does a much a better job at it, btw). This is definitely the next best thing to having been there. I just have 2 wishes -- this on DVD ASAP, and just one more Floyd tour - just one please - with or without Roger - I don't care - just one more!
Rating: Summary: Magnificently produced light and sound experience! Review: Simply put, this is the best there is in large-venue concert production. (If you prefer smaller venues, you may also want to pick up the David Gilmour in Concert DVD.) Even though the promised DVD of PULSE hasn't yet arrived, it's very apparent what a work of art the well-coordinated light show was, and Mr. Thorgerson's beautiful videos are also outstanding, and surreal. It's clear from this that Pink Floyd is not at all a destroyed band, but one very much alive. The video allows for a close-up glimpse of the band in addition to the light display, that might be lost to the audience at the actual concert. For that it may even surpass the concertgoing experience for those who prefer a more intimate musical experience. At times it may seem that the younger touring musicians are more "into it" than the band, but then Pink Floyd has always been more reserved than some. The Floyd members show their passion in subtler ways. If anybody in the band has a tendency to be visibly animated, surprisingly enough (or is it?) it's the softspoken keyboardist Richard Wright, who reacts very clearly to the music. "But if I have the audio CD, should I buy this too?" Absolutely! Even though most of the tracks are similar in style, on some the combination of light and sound heightens the experience. Also, the video-only tracks are well worth hearing. But perhaps the most stunning difference is in "Sorrow". While the CD version takes a more mournful, softer approach, the video version is a hard-rocking tune that draws the most passionate playing out of all three members. If David Gilmour and Nick Mason are on fire, then Richard Wright is positively explosive on this song. Letting loose with a screaming, uncharacteristically aggressive Hammond assault, one almost wonders if the keys will survive such a performance (especially given the fire in his eyes!). The only thing at all lacking on the video is the picture quality, which although good, is not up to modern standards of clarity. Hopefully the upcoming DVD will rectify this. Even considering this limitation, I can't possibly lower a hard-earned 5 star rating!
Rating: Summary: prepare tobe taken to the realm of total sensory bombardment Review: How can't one give this the highest rating possible? Simply astonishing. Look at all of the 5 star ratings. Unfortunately I was only 10 when the show rolled into town and didn't get to go, but I've heard tell that the speaker system was so powerful that it felt like it was physically pounding your chest from across the stadium. And why not, those pigs are on top of speaker stacks that are as tall as the stage, which by the way, to add a bit of perspective, is 80' tall by 200' long by 70' deep. Wow! When this DVD finally comes out, it's gonna be astonishing. This show is the accurate representation of a Floyd concert, although at times you'll think it was dolled up in post. (For example, the intros to 'Sorrow' and 'Run Like Hell' ... neat what lights can do, eh?) This show utilizes every conceivable rock concert effect and then super-sizes it. The pacing of the show is a tremendous plus; it alternates between mellow Floyd and full-on psychedelic insanity. Very helpful because you're allowed a breather before the next onslaught of visuals. The band is obviously having a great time playing. This tour didn't allow the same looseness that was displayed on Thunder (the stage is a bit more complex), but you'll still see everyone making faces and shooting grins and looks at each other. We can hope for some of the tracks that weren't performed that night, but were regulars on the tour to be included as special features. (Astronomy Domine, What Do You Want from Me, Poles Apart, A Great Day for Freedom, Hey You, Lost for Words, On the Turning Away). Everyone's going to have to accept that Roger Waters had split for good and will have to get over his absence. There's really no comparing In the Flesh and PULSE, they are two entirely different entities. Roger's show is more intimate and Dave's is a spectacle. Both are outstanding musically. So stop putting one above the other and embrace both for what they are. Just to set the record straight about "Delicate Sound of Thunder," it's a good video, but it is nowhere near as good as this. There are some nifty editing techniques, but overall it's uneven. PULSE is a Pink Floyd concert and nothing else. Thunder has some good tracks (On the Turning Away, One of These Days, Money, One Slip), but musically and visually they pale in comparison. It is Comfortably Numb on this video, not PULSE, that is substantially edited down. Also, the edits are shoddy on Thunder (pay attention to Guy Pratt's bass and Dave Gilmour's left hand). They should have just shot a single show at Nassau for Thunder and not edited it so heavily. Still a good video, but get PULSE first.
Rating: Summary: They had to take power from all of London to power it..... Review: This is probaly one of the best concerts you'll ever see. The light show is one of the most breaktaking pieces of film in existince, I don't know how they had the electricity to power this thing. Ok, so they didn't have Waters, and that kinda makes this suffer, but there are enough distractions and enough good energy from the rest of the (now very large) band. This is a wonderful concert, and you will want to watch it over and over again.
