Rating: Summary: damn good Review: As read below the original name for this video was "Heartland Reggae", the publisher shamelessly put Bob Marleys name in (even though he only sings 2 songs) to make money. In fact they didnt need to do this because the real star of thi show is jacob Milla, he absolutely stole the show with his performances. This is the only show Ive seen on DVD that accurately shows the jamaican reggae scene in its entirety. Even though Bob was the greatest, he was by no means the only top class reggae singer out there as this film attests. I watched this a couple years ago on vhs and when i saw it out on dvd i had to get it, the sound and picture is dated and i dont think there was any remastering at all. The vhs was in mono, im glad they upgraded that to stereo, I just feel fortunate to own this so I can witness what the reggae scene was like back in the day. They film from the biggest concerts in the capital to the out of the way ones in the countryside, i truly enjoyed this and if you into reggae I cannot recommend this strongly enough

Rating: Summary: Waist of Money Review: First of all, this DVD is very very misleading with a picture of Bob Marley on the cover. I waatched the first 35 mins of it and it was horribe, it looks like some stoned rasta got a couple of home videos and put them together, there was not even any editing done, it just goes from one video to another. There are actually black-outs in the film. This is by far the worst DVD I have seen. There is no commentary or anything. The only consolation is that I did not pay a lot for it. This DVD is very very misleading for BOB fans, because it gives the impression that he the main star of the movie. Thank GOD for people like Jeremy, and other producers who take their time and produce quality documentaries for reggae lovers. This DVD is a hoax
Rating: Summary: heartland reggae Review: Great reggae education program containing scenes from the One Love Peace concert that occured in mid 70's down in Jamaica featured everyone from Jacob Miller and his Inner Circle to The Might Almighty Bob Marley! This DVD feature the historic footage of Mr. Music bringing together two opposing leaders of Jamaica for the first time, ever! Wow! You get to watch Bob freaking out to what ever he consumed before the show very clearly with the DVD traetments! My wish list is to get a reggae historian to tell us all about the artist involved in this woodstock of Jamaica festival through audio commentery! Peter Toshe gives an awsome performance here and we can jump right to it!!! Haile' Sallise'! Ja! Rastafarai! ... remeber it was made in the 1970's ! Be thankful they released this at all!!!:) The Country Man, Bob Marley live from california, bob Marley live from Germany are on my wish list next for anyone reading this!!! Mahalo plenty! S:)
Rating: Summary: reggae in the late 70's Review: I have had this on vhs for a long time and was hoping it would get released on dvd and it finally has. Bob Marley and the Wailers are the featured artist on this dvd, but there are many good performances from prominent reggae acts including Peter Tosh rehearsals for the One Love Peace Concert which this dvd is specifically about. Other acts included are Marcia Griffiths (member of the I-three in Bob Marley's band), Jacob Miller and the Inner Circle, and Dennis Brown. There are many more great bands shown on this dvd, and if you are serious about getting into reggae and learning a little bit about Jamaican culture this is a dvd for you. The camera work and sound quality are a little questionable at times, but it is not a major problem. This is not a documentary on Bob Marley or any of the bands, but rather small scale live performances by the bands that played at the One Love Peace Concert. Portions of the One Love Peace Concert from April of 1978 are featured on this dvd, but a little more would have been nice. This is a nice documentation of the events precding the One Love Concert, and any true reggae fan should see this in their lifetime.
Rating: Summary: Top rate performances Review: If you've read the other reviews, you should understand by now that this DVD is far from a Bob Marley documentary and isn't really revealing as a documentary feature per se. Marley only performs a couple of songs, and if you're well versed in reggae music, you've likely already heard at least the One Love Peace Concert performances. Still, the footage of Manley and Seaga coming up onstage is historic.
Nonetheless, the DVD is indispensible to the serious reggae collector for the other concert footage and live performances, and the sound quality isn't so bad it's intolerable. There are several Peter Tosh performances ("400 Years", "African", "Get Up, Stand Up", & more) with Word Sound and Power as his band and they are in TOP FORM. All live versions are alternate takes and most contain the blistering drum and bass of Sly & Robbie and absolutely sick keyboard solos from the keyboardist (who I believe here is "Tarzan"). The DVD is worth the money for the Tosh performances alone.
There is also footage from some outdoor festival and I just feel lucky someone got these somewhat obscure performances on video. Dennis Brown and Jacob Miller crank out some serious tunes and in one of my favorites on the DVD, U-Roy toasts for about a song and a half over some bottom-heavy rhythms (too bad they cut the first song in half!!). Also, you get strong performances from Judy Mowatt and others. This '70's Roots Reggae in its prime. Watching it performed adds a dimension beyond just having heard the music.
Rating: Summary: This may be the puffinist video ever made!!! Review: Includes amazing concert clips of Peter Tosh, U-Roy, Jacob Miller, and of course Bob. If you enjoy all sorts of reggae you should get this video. Special appearences by the largest dreadlocks you have ever seen, and a rasta Jackson 5.
Rating: Summary: Reggae History lesson Review: It amazes me how clueless people are about Jamaican culture, Rasta culture and what Bob Marley truly stood for. This video should be required viewing for all students of roots & culture. It's kind of old & funky. Great coverage of some early concerts including Dennis Brown & Bob Marley.
Rating: Summary: not recommended Review: kind of lame. good footage of some fine reggae folk, but poor quality of some clips and a bit light on the bob marley (which would be ok if it did not say 'bob marley' in huge letters atop the cover. i've had it almost a year now and i think i watched it twice(the second time only because i forgot it was lame after a while). looking for an awesome live marley dvd? try 'Bob Marley and the Wailers: The Legend Live'.
Rating: Summary: Great content but low budget Review: Love this dvd. Lots of live footage of reggae in the 70s in JA. The sound and picture quality is OK, could be better but this is [an inexpensive] DVD and way worth the price.
