Summary: 5 stars for Randy!!!
Review: A friend of mine took this DVD to my house last week since I bought a new home theater for my living room. He told me that he had a surprise for me.
I could not beleive my eyes and ears, Randy Bachman??? with the best of BTO and the Guess Who in one DVD? Way to go, man. This a "must have" for any person that loves the good old rock and roll of the 60's and 70's

Summary: I saw the concert, and bought the DVD ...
Review: I bought the DVD after seeing Randy's show in Brampton, Ontario, and am delighted to say that the spirit of the live show is very well captured on the DVD. The DVD quality, 5.1 surround included, is superb. Randy's show is unique, very entertaining, and this DVD is definitely a keeper for anyone interested in owning some 60's and 70's nostalgia. Also very informative insight into Randy's songwriter craft - where he got the hooks, how the songs were spliced together in collaboration, where he got his inspiration. Now add to that Randy's topnotch guitar work, a tight band, Cummings-like vocals, great camera work, and I'll definitely be looking out for a sequel or volume 2.

Summary: What a surprise!
Review: I bought this DVD blind, not previously knowing it even existed and not knowing what to expect. This is a very nicely produced concert in a very small setting. The sound and video quality is amazing. It is simply an unforgettable experience to hear these songs done this way. There are 13 songs from the Guess Who and BTO periods. I found myself longing to hear more, such as songs from the Brave Belt albums, but I'm absolutely satisfied with what's included here. And half of what makes this concert so fun is listening to Randy tell the sories of how each song came into being. He does this live during the concert between songs, and he is an excellent storyteller. I for one would quickly purchase a volume 2 of this if it ever were available. His band is also very good, doing great work with each of the songs. I was surprised that Colin Wiebe was able to fill Burton Cummings' shoes without sounding like an exact replica. And it is always a pleasure to listen to Randy's inventive guitar playing. The concert itself runs about 1 hour and 15 minutes. There are extras also: a 15 minute behind the scenes narrated by Randy, and both fast and slow video versions of "Prairie Town", which are decent videos, but pale in comparison to sound and video quality of the live concert. I watched the whole DVD twice immediately, and loved every minute both times. Now c'mon guys; do another!

Summary: Excellent Show By One Of Rock's Masters
Review: Most musicians are blessed if they can lead one front line band in their lifetime. Randy had the distinction of leading two. Here he performs some of his best known songs from his days with the Guess Who and Bachman Turner Overdrive. The setting is a small 150 seat theater in Vancouver and the semi acoustic format of the show works surprising well. His band is first rate and Guitarist/Keyboardist Colin Arthur Wiebe does an adequate job of filling Burton Cumming's vocal shoes. Randy's telling of the stories behind each song is highly entertaining and adds to the overall performance. The sound and picture quality are first rate. I would recommend this for any Guess Who or BTO fans or anyone wanting to hear quality music performed by one of Rock's Masters. Songs: Prairie Town, No Sugar Tonight/New Mother Nature, Undun, Let It Ride, These Eyes, Laughing, Four Wheel Drive, No Time, American Woman, Hey You, Looking Out For #1, You Ain't See Nothin' Yet, Taking Care of Business.

Summary: rocks with the best of them
Review: Rock from start to finish... Taking Care of Business, American Women, These Eyes, Let It Ride... I was captivated. I loved all the stories and the acoustic feel was great. I knew all the songs but not the stories. Randy is as good a story teller as he is a writer/performer.
Randy put together a tight four piece band and put them into an intimate small theatre. Great sound and camera work. This is as good if not better than any Storytellers that I've seen on VH1.

Summary: I'd have to agree with the other reviewers...
Review: This is a great DVD...I only wish there were more. I know that these songs were chosen by Randy because they had some kind of meaning to him. Many of the songs on this DVD are those that reflect turning points in his life and career. I only wish that perhaps songs from a few other time-periods (like Brave Belt, Axe, Suvivor, Ironhorse or Union) were included. Oh well, maybe the next one!

Also, I think the guy doing Burton's vocals is a phenomenal choice. Sounds a lot like the young Cummings without trying too hard to do so.

Summary: Well presented live show....Well done DVD. Thanks Randy!
Review: This live show was recorded in a small theater somewhere. The atmosphere is laid back and pleasant. Randy Bachman tells the stories behind the songs he and Burton Cummings wrote and took to the top of the charts during the Guess Who and BTO days as he and his band perform them. I am a collector of live concert shows and am appalled by interruptions of the concert by interviews and clips (The butchering of Paul McCartney Back In The USA comes to mind), THIS DVD IS NOT LIKE THAT. Randy Bachman offers entertaining and very charming insight in between the songs about how his music came to be without interruption of the flow .....his stories are brief, witty, entertaining and a welcome part of the show. These are not clips, they are stories told by Randy from the stage as he talks to the audience. The production of the DVD is excellent. The camera work, sound and picture quality is great. Therefore, as a collector of live uninterrupted high quality concert DVDs I highly recommend this show for anybody who likes classic rock.

Randy's band is excellent and sounded great. As for Colin, all I say is he is a suitable "stand in" for Burton Cummings and a talented musician. If you can't have Burton Cummings, Colin is probably the next best thing. That is one huge pair of shoes that is impossible to fill anyway. By and large, Randy and crew successfully captured the distinctive sound of the GUESS WHO and BTO.

Had Burton Cummings been part of this show, I would have given it 10 stars! I have absolutely no idea what Burton is doing these days but if Randy can hook up with him for one last tour, I'll be the first in line for the show!
