Summary: A very pleasant surprise
Review: $20 (a month) + Netflix = opportunities to audition numerous concert DVD's. Some are better than others but occasionally you come across a real gem. Such is Live at Sunrise. Sound and video are excellent and the camera work is some of the best. You actually get to focus on the camera shots. This is how a show should be recorded - lots of stage shots and close ups of Dave's very talented playing (as well as the other members). If you like Dave's music, Traffic in their prime and you're a baby boomer like me then you'll probably like this one.

Oh yeah, 4 stars???? Well it's in full screen. Anamorphic would have rated 5 starts.

Summary: was the show that short?
Review: Dave Mason sounds as good today as he did 30 years ago. This latest live concert "Live At Sunrise" shows that this legendary rock guitarist has not lost a step in his ability to play or sing. The DVD quality is crystal clear with superior digital surround sound. It's is such a pleasure to actually watch a musician with talent who can actually play as compared to these modern day computerized lip-synchronized pop phenoms who can't sing a note let alone play? Dave and his band turn in some fine performances such as "Only You Know And I Know", "We Just Disagree, the Traffic classics, "Dear Mr. Fantasy", and "Feelin' Alright" and a blistering version of "All Along The Watchtower" which has become a standard at a Dave Mason concert. He continues to sing as if he were still 25 years old and this concert is as good if not better then his classic 1976 "Certified live" album. A bonus live behind the scenes interview is very interesting as mason is seen giving pointers to his band members backstage. He also makes it clear that he would like to reunite with old Traffic mates Steve Winwood and Jim Capaldi just once more. My only complaint is the concert could have been a tad longer[only nine songs] clocking in at 66 minutes. Still this is all quality and if your a fan of classic rock music, it does not get any better than this.

Summary: was the show that short?
Review: Dave Mason was the first act I ever saw live in 1974. He can still play with the best of them. What he's lost in hair, he's picked up in girth, but haven't we all? My only complaint is the length of this DVD. Unless something's changed, Dave probably played a longer set than this. His playing is excellent, and his band, while not as tight as the group on his double live album of the mid-70's, is more than adequate. Live at Perkins Palace is probably the more interesting of his 2 recent releases, it being recorded in the 80's in a purely acoustic setting. Still, I bought both, and I'd urge you to do the same.

Summary: let down
Review: Dave Mason's music is of course great. But you would think that after all these years he would want to present it more professionaly. As he say's "rock-n-roll is an attitude not an age". I am older now and my entertainment criteria has changed. Maybe I'm spoiled by Elton John's outstanding DVD or Peter Gabriel's interesting show's. Dave Mason is a legend and will alway's remain so but he could have done better.

Summary: I attended this actual show!
Review: I was actually at this Dave Mason concert which was recorded live at the Sunrise Musical Theatre in Sunrise, Florida (Fort Lauderdale). I have read the other reviews here at this site and many complain that the show was short. There is a reason Dave Mason did not play for very long. It is because he was not the headliner for the event. Dave Mason was the opening act. The headliner was Deep Purple. They also recorded their show and you can buy their DVD...which they called Perihelion. The audience was aware that the shows were being taped so the audience was extra boisterous. On a side note...the Sunrise Musical Theatre no longer hosts concerts. It was bought out a few years ago and is now a Church.

Summary: Mason STILL rocks!
Review: Incredible, simply incredible. The down side, the show is short. The up side, Mason's band is one of the best I've heard. Dave sounds GREAT and the band is tight. Highly, HIGHLY recommended.

Review: Some things just get better with age. A spectacular performance from a consummate guitarist and songwriter.
