Summary: forget dolby 5.0 -pcm option is way to go for great results
Review: Dont even think of using 5.0 audio on this dvd. Before you start it pick the pcm audio option and enjoy. One of the most fulfilling concerts Ive seen.the band is in top playing mode, the selections are excellent and it builds to a satisfying conclusion.I found the quick editing on this DVD to actually add to the performance and im one who hates fast cuts on concert dvds.the picture is outstanding and the lighting is the best ive seen in a concert.Yes I agree someone messed up royally on the dolby 5.0 audio so forget it and go straight to the full, clear and well detailed pcm option. If you have any interest in this band or rock with a jazz feel to it dont pass this up.I loved the Live In Sicily DVD with its great sound but this one from six years ago presents a band full of youthful energy and you get to hear the older material.Stars performed on this disc is so good i watched it three times before continuing on through over 25 songs.

Summary: fabulous performance and production values!
Review: I am not a huge Simply Red fan...at least I wasn't until I saw this DVD...wow, what a great performance and fabulous production values....this puts the new McCartney DVD to shame. The Eurythmics have a wonderful DVD out as well that is similar in quality with a great deal of bonus material which would have been the icing on the cake for the simply red DVD.

I knew many of the songs but the ones I didn't are fairly memorable the first time through. The camera angles, lighting , stage design are all designed for beauty and to keep the show from stagnating and all are splendid. The sound is simply fabulous as well.

This is a great 2hrs and 26 tracks with a sort of Jazzy vibe to the arrangements which I find particularly pleasing..oh yeah, and on his signature song "Holding Back the Years" Mick performs solo with an acoustic guitar and it is the perfect touch.

HIGHLY recommended

Summary: simply coulda been better
Review: I came into contact with simply red while living in germany.
Loved "holding back the years" The emotion in his voice...the video...was GREAT. "money's to tight to mention"... a very, very talented performer.
This video is priced well for any lover of Simply red.
I think the direction could have been better. Looks like they tried to be too trendy with all the quick camera angles bouncing back and forth. Personally for me its keep the camera still, and let the performer sing.
On the audio I couldnt get his voice foward on the speakers until I turned the sound from 5.0 surround to the available "linear pcm stereo" It was better.
It could have all been a little better, but this is probably as good as it will get. It was good to see and hear the hits.

Summary: Pretty good, enough to buy
Review: I have become obsessed with buying DVDs of my favorite musicians. This one is pretty good, for a live performance. Not as good as "All this Time" by Sting. Nowhere near is groundbreaking and feature packed as Moby Play, the DVD, or the Criterion Beastie Boys. This DVD does include an impressive number of songs, and the quality is pretty darn good for me. The sound is more TV production quality, not DVD/film quality. They could really push up the vocals a bit. They could take a cue from Sarah McLachlan's concert DVD and allow the watcher to have the option of picking which camera angle they want to view. Clearly they must have about 5 or 6 cameras filming this. It really is jumpy. I just now timed about a minute of one song, and they never had a shot up for more than 4 seconds.

It is pretty good though, if you are a Simply Red fan, you simply must get this DVD.

Summary: Get Your Money's Worth with This One!
Review: I think this is an excellent DVD. Sound quality is good...I didn't notice it being bad like I had read. Anyone who loves Simply Red will love this DVD. It gives an option of having the lyrics on screen....and I liked that.

It is about 2 hours, so you get your money's worth!

The only thing missing was any additional footage like behind the scenes.

Summary: Skip this low quality loser...get Live In Italy instead!
Review: The sound was incorrectly recorded on this live performance and the technicians should be fired! The disc has very poor Dolby Digital 5.1 which kills the whole reason to own this DVD. Instead, buy Simply Red's new DVD recorded in 2003 in Italy! It has excellent picture and sound quality...he sings basically the same material...and you can enjoy it loud! Unfortunately, the very poor sound quality on this DVD is probably the reason they had to release another live concert DVD only one year later!!! It really deserved zero stars but Amazon's rating system doesn't give me that option!

Summary: No complaints here...
Review: This concert, recorded on the band's "Blue" tour, is fantastic. Mick Hucknall is a riveting frontman, with one of the most naturally soulful voices out there. The song selection is terrific, pulling from different stages in the group's career. The camerawork seems fine and I had no problems with the sound. Even if you only know the band's few American hits, this is worth taking a chance on.

Summary: 2 hours of great entertainment - worth every penny
Review: This DVD is fantastic. If you are a 'Red' fan this is a must have. I have to disagree about the sound quality. Maybe people don't realize that this was filmed in a building that's older than probably every reviewer's age put together - sound control was not at it's optimum for today's technology. It was probably not even filmed with DVD in mind - the concert was 6 years ago! Lighten up and enjoy the DVD for what it was intended - good old-fashioned, clean entertainment. We don't see a lot of that these days... Buy it - you will not be disappointed.
