Summary: Wailers fans/Peter Tosh fans should at least watch once
Review: Greetings,
I have seen the documentary on VHS and have viewed it many times.
While the documentary could have been better directed, it's worthwhile for any Wailers fans and (sorry for the cliche) a must-have for Peter Tosh fans.
This documentary tells in clear terms that there's a great biography to be written about Tosh's life. Ultimately, the documentary is very moving and also very sad.
The strongest portions of the documentary center around the audio tapes Tosh was recording as a sort of autobiography. He even discusses his childhood, how he was singled out for his nappy hair texture and dark skin.
The documentary is also very haunting for those who know about Tosh's murder. Still, despite there being a verdict, the murder is still a large question mark.
Despite the sad, upsetting overall atmosphere, it still manages to be uplifting, hopefully motivating Tosh fans to see that they, too, can change the world, at least in part.
Tosh was abandoned as a child by his father and neglected by his mother, who didn't really raise him either.
Anyway, enough divulging of information, see this documentary if you can.

Summary: good retrospective on the Bush Doctor
Review: Stepping Razor Red X is essential viewing for any reggae fan. While it jumps around chronologically, it is a good intro to Tosh, his music, and his beliefs. My only complaint is that I found some of the re-enactments to be a little hokey. I think that it would have been more effective to show still pictures of Tosh instead of having an actor lip-sync over Tosh's tape-recordings. Overall, though, this is a great movie about a true revolutionary.

Review: This documentary, explores the life of the late Peter Tosh, Reggae artist, Jamaican folk hero, prophet and radical political activist. Based on his personal taped diaries, the Red X tapes, this film reveals the inner thoughts of this volatile musician. His closest friends and associates talk about the many sides of Peter Tosh, explaining his fiery career and dramatic death. Archival interviews with Tosh and rare concert footage fill out this picture of the Rasta visionary. Jah Rastafari!
