Summary: All that could have been...
Review: My fiance and I saw the Chicks live in Cleveland on this tour and were SO IMPRESSED! The Chicks put on one of the best shows we've seen in a long time and we were eagerly awaiting this release in hopes it would re-capture the magic. Well, sad to say, this dvd is an unfortunate abuse of editing. First of all, rather than showcasing single performances from specific shows, each song's video is spliced from seperate performances, so when you're watching Long Time Gone, which on the dvd actually begins with Natalie shouting a hello to multiple venues, you may be seeing footage from every one of those venues rather than the cream of the crop. It really makes for a choppy experience. Second, the excellent special effects, which are probably left primarily to the actual live experience, are unfortunately all but ignored here. For instance, during Landslide, towards the end of the song a stunning display of flowers bloomed from the stage. Here, there is a quick shot of some of the bloomed flowers but you never get to see them rise up. What gives? Last but not least, there are virtually no bonuses. Almost all live dvds now have behind the scenes footage, interviews, alternate angles, etc. It's not all bad though, as the video itself is very crisp and the audio wonderfully clear. Best of all, the sole real bonus, the incredible music video for Top Of The World, which was shown at the show we were at, is included here. That alone may make it worth the price of purchase as you could always listen to the rest of the dvd while doing whatever in the privacy of your home, yet, I feel that most would be better off buying the double cd as it has almost all the same songs as well as some not included on the dvd (Truth #2, hint hint...).

Summary: Would Have Been Five Stars if Produced from One Show
Review: I actually enjoyed this generous performance. Like the Chick's previous EVENING WITH THE DIXIE CHICKS, the DVD highlights a lot more than the sex appeal of these three charismatic performers. With a set list culled from each of their three major albums, the show might have been a winner had it actually been the record of one, or even two, shows. Instead, we have a two-hour montage of performances from several shows from the TOP OF THE WORLD tour. The production comes off as more a slick documentary than a compelling, cohesive record of performance. One reason for lobbing off one star is that the editing of these shows, obviously paced to match the rhythm of the music, lurches, cuts and cuts and lurches again. It is some of the most spastic editing of otherwise decent footage I've ever seen in a rock or country video. It actually made me edgy. Having said that, the Dixie Chicks are fabulous at what they do and the disc is a bargain pure and simple. It would be possible to say that Natalie Maines is a force of nature. Her voice and presence are phenomenal. If you love this trio as much as I do, don't let all the critical poo-poo get you down. You WILL enjoy yourselves. Just take a break now and then and keep some club soda close by in case the editing makes you queasy

Summary: Chicks rule as usual!
Review: What an excellent show! It was wonderful to see in person and as well on this DVD. Great to see so many different wardrobe changes and venues. Chicks look and sound great...very similar to the audio CD. Wish they had included more from the tour, but they chose excellent selections. A must have for every fan!

Summary: Farewell Tour
Review: I used to be big fan of the Chicks, but looking at this DVD I have to say that they have peaked and are on the downside of their careers. Maybe just poor editing on the DVD, but they just don't seem to have the performance of a couple of years ago.

Summary: Great Sound w/ NO studio overdubs! YES they sound that GOOD!
Review: No studio magic here, folks. After attending 4 shows, I can say without a doubt that this band sounds great live!

I recently purchased this DVD and it is wonderful! After reading one of the reviews on this Amazon site that states that this album has been fixed and the Chicks couldn't sound that good live, I had to write. This DVD was recorded on the U.S. tour as the insert to the DVD states and there are NO studio overdubs! There is a statement to attest to this in the cover, and, the Chicks themselves mentioned this fact on their Today Show interview.
The DVD live shots are taken from various venues, therefore there are different shots with different outfits etc. during each song. This was done I believe to give the fans a feel for the shows in general. The recording is not from a small venue as suggested in the other review, since there were no small venues (unless you call 15,000 to 20,000 small) on this North American leg of this tour, where this was taken from.
It's sad that we have become so used to doctored music and disapointments with the sound that our favorite bands yeild in live performances that we expect the "live" albums to be overdubbed at the studio. That expectation alone shows the talent that is lacking in todays music industry; It also shows shows why these three ladies rule the roost! They have the talent, without the studios help!

The Chicks are the REAL DEAL, talent filled and energized, they don't need studio magic!!!

Summary: A Big Disappointment
Review: I purchased this DVD expecting to see a live concert from the Top of the World Tour. What I got was a music video with clips from dozens of different concerts. If the intent was to give an overview of the tour, they could've easily just put 17 of the best single performances from different cities. Instead, they chose to edit footage to the point that all you can focus on is the constant variations in clothing and background. For me, this totally killed any possibility of even pretending the performance was live. Horrible production here, and I can't recommend this DVD to anyone hoping to see a live performance.

Summary: A crime committed on the Dixie Chicks
Review: I love the Dixie Chicks, and their performances in the concerts that provided footage for this DVD were probably great - but there's no way to tell.

From what I can see, this DVD was put together by monkeys who had available an unlimited supply of espresso and cocaine. No shot lasts longer than two seconds, and footage from many different concerts is slammed together pell-mell with no regard for anything like continuity. The camera shots themselves are about as creative as a home movie of a high school football game, and the general feeling I get is that the people who made this didn't really give a damn about the Dixie Chicks, or about anything except slapping this DVD together with nail guns, pressure board, duct tape and fast-drying glue, and then dropping it on store shelves to start the cash hose flowing.

The Dixie Chicks deserve much, much better than this, and luckily they get it in "An Evening with the Dixie Chicks," which is the best DVD of their music to date. If you bought this garbage, go exchange it for "An Evening," and you'll be glad you did.

Summary: Don't think that the word "Live" in the title means Live
Review: Don't think that the word "Live" in the DVD's title means you will hear a live performance. The hyper-edited video appears to be synched to audio from their CDs (or possibly to audio recorded separately in a studio), with some audience background noise dubbed in to make it sound like a live recording.
