Rating: Summary: Brutal! Review: If you like Floyd...this is THE video to own. The Wall is an awesome experience...Pulse is a great way to get a feel for the band(sans Roger Waters)at a concert later in their career....But this is PINK FLOYD in their early days. The music is awesome, the visuals are amazing. I bought this tape not knowing what to expect, but WOW! This is a monster of a tape...you drift from interviews with the band, to the guys just hanging out, to live performances amongst the ruins of Pompeii. My only regret is that this is not available on DVD.
Rating: Summary: How to escape with Floyd Review: I own close to almost everything that Pink Floyd has ever put out. Wheather it be tapes, CD's, books. This video is the gem of my entire collection. I have two of them actually. The one shown here is the older version. That one doesn't have color on it anymore because I've watched it so much that the tape is thin. Just great stuff if your a Floyd fan. "Careful with that axe, Eugene." Classic!! The scream that Roger lets out is unreal. "Echos" is also unbelievable. Sound wise you can get better on such an old tape. It sounds Raw, but that's a good thing. It has a lot of good little moments with the Floydsters in the studio during the "Darkside of the moon" sesions. AWESOME!
Rating: Summary: This is Pink Floyd Review: Oh yeah!! Now this is Pink Floyd the hippy looking rock group of the early seventies!! With one major difference; the sound is Raw, Loud, and it jams!! The Bass saturation is very heavy, as was the case with rock music at the time. The drumming is very intense and energetic, as it should be! Gilmour's guitar work is the backbone of this awesome music! The sounds he makes are so deep and moving it's unbelievable. The second half of Saucerful of Secrets is indescribable, I don't know whether to cry or jam out with them?!. It's absolutely beautiful, the slide guitar work, the bass rhythm, the flowing organs, the kick butt drum breaks, the wordless vocals.. I don't know but it rocks! Or how about Gilmour's Dark Side of the Moon take where he get's feedback and they tell him, "hey, feedback". And Gilmour says, "Well, what would rock and roll be without feedback?" Cool stuff you have to see this !!
Rating: Summary: " Video for all Floyd Fans" - MUST SEE. Review: I have been a Pink Floyd fan for 7 years. This video shows the characteristic view and creative side of the four individuals <Gilmour-Rick-Nick-&-Roger> that made pinkfloyd the most successful band in history of rock music. Floyds working to achieve a new style of sound from where they left after Sys Barrett's was dismissed permanently. The Video has a glimpse of the making and the spacing of the tracks in their upcoming album "Dark side of the moon" . According to majority of the fans who have viewed this video, all five band members including Sys Barrett's have been equally received credits for the unbelievable success of Pink Floyd. Note - You have to been patient to watch and listen . If you are a fan ,then you don't need to consider the given note , since it involves some sort understanding. Also must watch video's - "Pulse" AND " La Carrera Panamericans".
Rating: Summary: The 'real' Pink Floyd at their best! Review: This is Pink Floyd before they emerged from the underground with Dark Side of the Moon. The ensemble playing is magnificent, although there seem to be a couple of places where sounds have been added later: for example, the 'sonar' bleep at the end of Echoes (it's not Rick Wright playing it - you can see both his hands on the Hammond), and the middle of One Of These Days. And why does Rick Wright shave after Echoes? Apart from this, it's a brilliant performance, full of power and imagination. I agree that it does seem to focus on Nick Mason a bit too much - but it's a real revelation to see him pounding the kit, after witnessing his much more subdued playing on Pulse and The Wall. Dave Gilmour's playing is so inventive and creative - how did he get all those sounds without synthesisers? Imagination, experimentation and determination, that's how! The best Floyd video by far!
Rating: Summary: Great content, poor quality tape Review: I first saw this film about 20 years ago, and I purchased the video tape in 1986. The performance is great (enough has been said about that), definitley my favorite Pink Floyd. But, recently I decided to replace my aging VHS tape, and I was really disappointed when I watched the new tape I bought here. I sensed something was not quite right. After some investigation, what seems to be wrong is that in the new tape (which says something like "digitally remastered" on the box) they seem to have compressed the play time. For example, Echoes part one runs for about 11:57 on my old tape, and 11:27 in the new tape. The pitch sounds ok, but everthing is speeded up. After seeing the old tape so many times, this was clearly apparent to me in the new tape, and it just didn't sound right. Interestingly, the old tape say the running time was 90 minutes, and the new tape says 80 minutes (also the new tape is, physically, a shorter tape). I'm just speculating here, but perhaps this was done to economize somehow? I really hope this title comes out on DVD without this alteration. The content is excellent, highly recommended.
Rating: Summary: A glimpse of the best Floyd ever Review: The edition of Live at Pompeii is one of the best visual documents ever made of Pink Floyd, they perform their best music, in their best period, this is the early seventies, form 1970 to 1973-75. We also can watch the entire band, with his original members, which is not a insignificant thing, you can't do that in pulse, or the delicate sound of thunder. The presence of Roger Waters weights. And is also better to see Pink Floyd playing with all their power. You can see that in the performances of Echoes, One of these days and a Saucerful of Secrets. Truly the best document of Pink Floyd in the best part of their life as a band.
Rating: Summary: The fool who wears the crown Review: A couple of years ago,a friend and i were in the house watching television.we were not as you would say compus-mentus and the night was drawing ever on,after the programme we were watching had reached it's end the blurb announced that a pinkfloyd concert was coming on after the advertisments. At this time i was still very green concerning bands like pink floyd and suggested to my friend that we turn off the television, this person was however reputed to have an eclectic yet brilliant taste in music and he insisted it stayed on When the film began he then promptly fell asleep leaving me in a dazed stupor to watch on my own.it was at this point i was converted,i watched in awe dazzled by this mesmerizing and highly intricate music, the setting for the film and the visual accompinimnet to the sounds was some of the most interesting footage i have ever seen in the use of music itself. i awoke the next morning feeling rather rough and yet quite dazzled,i then made it my mission to try to accept pinkfloyd into my musical tastes and have never looked back since. I now regard pinkfloyd as one of the most innovative and skilled bands of the last century and they are a personal favorite of mine. All this was due to a happenstance screening of this film which did truly change my life as far as music is concerned. An excellent start for beginners and compulsive viewing for the complete fan.Truly excellent viewing.
Rating: Summary: One of my favorites... Review: Any true Pink Floyd fan would love this video. Best viewed with close friend(s), fine wine, large screen TV, high quality sound system or headphones. Don't rush...relax and enjoy. Set in the amphitheater in the ruins of Pompeii with unbelievable sound and video. Great off-stage interview and insiders view of the guys who started at "bread line and less" (according to David).
Rating: Summary: If you like meddle, you'll love this Review: When it said, "live in pompeii" I automatically thought that there would be a bunch of people there, and maybe a cool lazer show or something. In actuality, this concert is a private recording, with nobody watching except the setup crew and producers. In spite of this, the video still has unbelievable electricity. Gilmour's guitar riffs throughout the movie are absolutely awesome, and are, in my opinion, the highlights of the vid. Although, the film focuses a lot of its time on Nick Mason. They concentrate in on his drum solos numerous times through the show. One downside of the video is when they interview the bandmates, Richard Wright is left out, and never interviewed. Otherwise, if you like Meddle, saucerful of secrets, and dog-howling blues, this is for you.
