Summary: You're the One--Paul Simon in Concert
Review: When Paul Simon is "on" there's nothing like him, and I'm a big fan. I was disappointed by this DVD, however. Audio quality was sub-par...to the point where I couldn't shake a continual vibratory resonance that sounded like I was listening to a torn speaker...(I assure you, I was not). I love the African Guitar of Vincent Nguini, but I don't think this production show-cased his sound very well. I think the biggest mistake that the producers made though was to pick a concert where Paul seems to be either tired or disinterested in this venue. The whole air of this concert seemed a bit flat to me. I don't normally like to use cliches when being critical, but I couldn't help but feel that Paul kind of "phoned this one in".

Summary: A great singer, sadly past it
Review: While Paul Simon's voice was never his strongest asset it was always serviceable and he always used it well. However, by the time this of this concert his voice had aged appreciably. He does little more than talk his way through a lot of the songs.

Mind you, they're still excellent songs and sound good as a result of a fantastic group of musicians backing him. I have to agree with other reviewers about the strange resonance that is evident at times, especially during the slower songs like "Bridge Over Troubled Water".

Simon takes the audience through a review of his work as a solo artist, finds the time for some Simon & Garfunkel standards and presents material off his latest studio album: "You're the One". Overall it is a fairly strong set with my only complaint being the omission of "Slip Slidin' Away", my favourite Paul Simon tune. Overall it will satisfy though.

In the end this DVD is only going to please Paul Simon fans. For the average listener there probably isn't much which is a shame because at this best Paul Simon is a treat to listen to. Unfortunately he doesn't seem at his best here.
