Summary: A Great Compilation from the Greatest Artist of the 90s
Review: I really love Madonn'a 1990s work so at the end of 1999, it was a little present to all of us Madonna fans and music video fans to get a compilation of many of her 90s hits!

So what if there was no Erotica, Deeper and Deeper, etc, but there was Human Nature, Bedtime Story, Take a Bow, The Power of Goodbye and Frozen, all of which are phenomenal.

Maybe antother compilation will be released sometiem and can included all of the other videos, including American Pie!

Summary: It's No "Secret" This Isn't An "Immaculate" Collection.
Review: I echo the sentiments of nearly every reviewer when I say that there are some superb videos that are notably absent from this collection.

What I find most perplexing about the exclusion of videos is that this product is entirely independent of a musical release, while THE IMMACULATE COLLECTION video was not. Because THE IMMACULATE COLLECTION album did not feature gems like "Everybody," "Burning Up," "Dress You Up," "Gambler," "True Blue," "Who's That Girl," and "Causing a Commotion," it could be argued that they had no place on her video collection of the same name. Meanwhile, the video for "Oh Father," another non-IMMACULATE track, WAS included. Go figure. However, videos for IMMACULATE tracks "Crazy For You," "Into the Groove," and "Live To Tell," were NOT included. While these videos were contributions to the films VISION QUEST, DESPERATELY SEEKING SUSAN and AT CLOSE RANGE, respectively, each song stands on its own merits, as does its video. "Into the Groove" is the quintessential '80s song, "Live To Tell" is unforgettable, and "Crazy For You" has held up remarkably well over the years.

Because THE VIDEO COLLECTION '93-'99 doesn't have the confines of an album tie-in, Warner Reprise could have instead titled it THE VIDEO COLLECTION '91-'99 and included "Holiday" and "Like a Virgin" (the TRUTH OR DARE versions), "This Used to Be My Playground," "Erotica," "Deeper and Deeper," "I'll Remember," "I Want You," "You'll See," "You Must Love Me," and "Don't Cry For Me Argentina." To boost sales of the "Ray of Light" video single, they could have left the video off this collection, making it a must for every fan's Madonna collection. Of course, included or not, it's already a great novelty.

As for the rather weightless argument that "I'll Remember" and "This Used to Be My Playground," because they are videos from movies, aren't worthy of inclusion, I have this to say. In my opinion, "Live To Tell" is Madonna's very best music video, and it features footage from AT CLOSE RANGE, the film for which it was originally written. Directed by AT CLOSE RANGE filmmaker James Foley, "Live To Tell" features an elegant Madonna in floral print dress with blonde curls pouring her heart out while riveting footage from the intense film is interspersed throughout. Simple images like Madonna sitting in closeup with her arms folded on a table and standing tall as her soft bob blows in the wind are no less magnificent because the song is from a movie. True, "I'll Remember" unimaginatively cribs from Madonna's own "Rain," the video that directly preceded it (!), but do YOU really care? I don't. I want to see it, and, evidently, so does everyone else.

We could argue until we're blue in the face about what Warner Reprise could and should have done, but, when it comes right down to it, they didn't have to release a video collection at all. So, let us thank them for giving us this release, which reminds us of Madonna's outstanding contributions to the medium. "Bad Girl," "Rain," and "Bedtime Story" are landmark achievements. "Secret" and "Beautiful Stranger" are not. "Take a Bow" and "Frozen" are personal favorites. "Fever" and "Human Nature" are not. Regardless of which videos are present in this collection, no one can deny her raw artistry. At her worst, Madonna is still leagues ahead of her musical peers, and she continues to make innovative music and remarkable videos. She has made her most personal record since LIKE A PRAYER with RAY OF LIGHT, and it is evident in videos for "Drowned World/Substitute for Love" and "The Power of Good-bye" that she has made remarkable progress as a musician, a songwriter, an actress, and a human being.

Summary: ALMOST AMAZING
Review: Like millions of fans all over the world (since she began) I think the Video Collection 93:99 missed Erotica video, maybe controversial, but absolutely basic for Madonna's career. Missed too: I want you, Deeper&Deeper, I'll remember, This used to be my playground, You'll see. I hope these could be released as a second collection!

Summary: Video collectio 93 99
Review: el DVD aunque en la información del empaque dice que cuenta con close caption no lo tiene, excepto el VHS. Es por ello que lo califiqué con 4 estrellas. Esto creo es un error de información. Además que faltan más videos como "YOU'LL SEE" y "I'LL REMEMBER. ¿Cuánto tiempo tendremos que esperar los fans de Madonna para tener estos videos?

Summary: Where's the songs from Erotica?
Review: I think, the songs from Madonna's EROTICA album was just way ahead of its time. If you listen to it now, you'll know why. Then why did our Pop Goddess leave the songs out from the collection? Unless, she'll make another collection of her "risque" efforts, then I'm willing to wait. The Evita songs are also missing. "You Must Love" was not just a great song but an Oscar winner, too. Nevertheless, this is a collection for both fans and non-fans. Viva, Madonna!

Summary: A wonderful compilation.
Review: Forget the fact that Erotica isn't included on here. Yes, it would have been wonderful but we're just going to have to live with it until it's finally released to the public again. The video is quite artistic despite what the critics think.

Madonna is not all about sex, although she uses it well to her advantage. Her videos show more substance. One of my favorites is her S&M-themed 'Human Nature' video where she uses the song and the wonderful choreography to tell her critics to back off of her public image. The beautifully done 'Bedtime Story' was way ahead of it time, with it's techno beats. And hey, if you're still not convinced to get the video collection, then you should watch 'Beautiful Stranger' where Mike Myers makes a cameo appearance. Madonna seductively comes on to him the whole which makes the video quite hillarious.

The cultural chemeleon knows how to live up to her identity, constantly changing her personas in each video. From the substance-abuse business women in 'Bad Girl'; to a jilted lover (inpre-Evita costume) of a bullfigher in 'Take a Bow'; to dance club diva in 'Ray of Light'; to a modern geisha in 'Nothing Really Matters'.

True, while Madonna may not have the octaves to hold a note like Mariah or Whitney, at least she knows how to make her songs and videos fun and dancible. BRING ON A THIRD COLLECTION.

Summary: Leaving out Erotica
Review: I think that everyone needs to chill out about the Erotica deal. That was her way of expressing herself and I thought that it was very brave.I am very dissapointed that the video got left off but maybe she didnt want to bring it back up.But that was her choice and not the choice of others.I loved the video and will always keep it as a reminder of the best performer in the world:Madonna

Summary: Madonna's Video Evolution through the '90's !
Review: This is a collector's item for any true Madonna fan as it showcases her chimerical image changes through the 1990's. However, I missed some videos like, "You'll See", "I Want You", "I'll Remember" and the Evita videos as well. I was wondering why they were not included in this video collection. My favorite video is "Rain" with its artistically simple yet elegant Japanese direction, even the song was way ahead of its time. More Power to the Artist of the New Millennium!
