Summary: The Evolution of Madonna
Review: I wish Warner/Reprise would release a definitve collection of Madonna's videos. Until that wish comes true,Video Collection 93:99 will suffice. This collection should be called The Evolution of Madonna. From Bad Girl to Beautiful Stranger, you can see how much she has matured as a performer and a woman.Especially in post-Evita/Lourdes era of videos (basically Love Don't Live Here Anymore and forward) you can see this new Madonna emerging.Still, Madonna is one of the few remaining artists from the 1980's that still makes REALLY good videos. She is constantly on the pulse of music and pop culture. She is the master manipulator. Knowing that whatever she does the public and the media alike will sit up and take notice and you can see it in this collection. The best video in this collection is 'Ray of Light'.With its fast images and infectious music and lyrics, this video swept the MTV Video Awards and it also won the Grammy for Best Short Form Video. It made me love the song even more! I would go as far to say that it is the BEST video of the 1990's. Drowned World/Substitute for Love is one of my favorites on the CD (Ray of Light) and the video is even better. The lyrics seem to be Madonna's most personal to date. Other good videos from this collection are Human Nature, Power of Goodbye and Rain.If you don't own it, I highly suggest Ray of Light the CD or tape. I am sure the best is yet to come...

Summary: necessary viewing, but there's more you need to see
Review: I'm a little angry that Madonna put together such an unfair compilation of videos. With the Immaculate Collection it truly lived up to the title because it cut out the unnecessary stuff like movie promo videos and then kindly added a bonus of the classic performance of "Vogue" at the Mtv awards.

This compilation is not the correct follow up. It misses "Erotica", "Deeper and Deeper", "You'll See", "I Want You", and although "I'll Remember" and "This Used to Be My Playground" do have movie footage they are certainly good enough and are sorely missed on this compilation as well. "Justify My Love" should have been on here too since millions of people already own the video single and it would save the hassle of switching tapes.

As for the videos that are on here, there's plenty of pleasurable viewing in every video. Even in "Love Don't Live Here Anymore" which many people say is boring but they are overlooking the fact that you just need to let the mood of the music and video collide and it will suddenly open up. I could go on about the beauty of each video but you just need to see them.

Also, the last video is "Beautiful Stranger" which is a fun video and it's a great song for the second Austin Powers movie but it doesn't seem to fit here. It would have made a better bonus to the DVD release of the movie.

So there is excellent stuff here, it's just hard to get over the dissapointment of the rest of the videos being excluded for some unknown reason. I'm positive they will see release one day, I just can't figure why she didn't include them here.

Summary: A Visual Treat
Review: Madonna has been one of the most prolific video artists of the last twenty years, and this 2nd compilation (the first being The Immaculate Collection) shows why.

The best videos on here are the murder mystery of Bad Girl / the Matador love affair in Take A Bow / the poignant and thought provoking Drowned World / the gothic and dark Frozen / the fast paced, image laden visual treat that is Ray Of light / and the incredible / the very surreal Bedtime Story / the beautiful B&W simplicity that is Secret / Rain and Power of Goodbye are so incredibly stylised (never has she looked so incredible) and not forgetting the sheer fun and tom-foolery with Austin Powers in Beautiful Stranger.

The collections weakest moments include Human Nature, a better video than the song, and the poor Love Don't Live Here Anymore (a cheap 1 shot video, which was filmed on a day off in Buenos Aires).

A bonus though is Fever, a simple dance to camera video which is laden with costume changes and special effects.

There are a couple of omissions though which I personally would have liked on here. The sexy, grainy Erotica (perhaps her most inventive musical moment?), and the 70's themed Deeper and Deeper (though she has NO eyebrows in this video which may explain its omission!)

With no extras to speak of, this is still an incredible compilation of videos from a woman who is without doubt one of the leaders in her field.

Summary: The Video Vixen at Her Finest
Review: There's a reason that Madonna is the most popular female singer in the world. Is it her voice? Some if it, sure, but the majority of her success can be found in the incredible videos she produces. Unlike her contemporaries, Madonna's videos are actually ABOUT the song; there's a direct correlation. The Erotica videos are some of her most brilliant, in particular Bad Girl and Fever. The videos from the Ray of Light CD are also fabulous. Frozen and The Power of Goodbye are so visually stunning and evocative, you have to watch them more than once as they can overpower the song. Madonna's no amateur, and this collection pays homage to one of the best singer-songwriter-dancer-producers the music world has ever seen. Madonna's utterly original. She's like no one else, and no matter how hard they try, none of the competition comes close.

Summary: Madonna-Video Collection 1993-1999
Review: Still not as fun and ferocious as her 80's clips, Madonna's 90's videos still capture a new look and feeling every time. Skipping past 1992 videos "This Used To Be My Playground", "Erotica" and "Deeper and Deeper", this collection zooms to "Bad Girl", in which Madonna dies. In this video, Christopher Walken plays the angel of death. Let me just say this is a great video for a not so great song. It made it so much better with Christopher's prescense. Note: He got way too much attention for FatBoy Slim's "Weapon Of Choice" where he ridiculously dances in a hotel. He got zero attention for "Bad Girl". Other highlights in this collection is the groundbreaking "Rain"; the color was hand painted on the black and white film,"Bedtime Story"; an otherworldly Grimms fairy tale clip, complete with Madonna's facial features switched around,"Frozen"; great color and great effects. Madonna clones roam the desert, Madonna transforms into a dog and a flock of blackbirds. "Ray Of Light", a video at full speed. I dont think theres another video like it. This collection is well woth it, although it could have came with some extras like behind the scenes commentary.

Summary: A quick question and I'll be happy if anyone can answer this
Review: What song/video is it where Madonna is dressed like a Geisha?

Summary: Incomplete
Review: I was excited when I heard Madonna was releasing another video collection. Originally it was to be titled The Video Collection 1992:1999, but they decided not to include Erotica because that would require the video to have "parental advisory", so they decided against including Erotica, which is a terrible shame. There is quite a few of her videos, and this proves that Madonna has created some of the most creative and captivating videos in music history. When I see videos like Bedtime Story which is my favorite, it really amazes me, to see such an amazing video. Other great videos on here include Ray of Light, Frozen, Bad Girl, Rain, Human Nature and much more. What a shame that so many of her great videos were not included, such as This Used To Be My Playground, Ill Remember (I understand that they require movie rights perhaps to include those two), Erotica, Deeper and Deeper, You'll See, I Want You etc etc. So it is rather incomplete for a video collection, but there are some great videos on here. It just would of been nice to see those videos, but instead we get Love Dont Live Here Anymore, perhaps her worst video where she is just in a room and its the same shot throughout the whole video. Perhaps our favorite videos that weren't on here, will make it to a future video collection.

Summary: A great Stocking Stuffer for the Holidays!
Review: A great collection to accompany the '91 Immaculate Collection.

I don't believe that Madonna would've excluded 'Erotica' on the collection since she initially chose that video, the choice was stupidly made by WARNER. So it doesn't have 'Erotica', big deal. Her 'Sex' Book pretty much illustrates the video.

And it wouldn't have made sense to include 'I'll Remember' and 'This Used to Be my Playground' because the videos pretty much show more of the movie scenes than Madonna, so they were no special. And the 'Justify My Love' video is still sold in stores like Tower Records as a separate video, so you can still get that.

Though a few look like they were edited over, you'll be dazzled by the visual effects you see in such videos like 'BedTime Story' and 'Ray of Light'and 'Fever'; and some great choreography in 'Human Nature' and 'Beautiful Stranger'. There's also some great cinematography in videos like 'Rain', each video is very well themed.

I could have given it 5 stars but I only gave it 4 due to the 'Love Don't Live Here Anymore' video. While the lighting was all right in it, it was boring. Oh well, they can't all be great.

But it's still a wonderful keeper and carefully illustrates Madonna as the true performance artist that she is, hopefully in another few years she'll have a third collection out.

Summary: Good DVD
Review: Just bought the video recently and this collection is pretty much OK. My favorite video is "Bedtime Story" because of the fact that it is loaded with awesome special effects. Bedtime story is no doubt one of her best videos. The graphics of "Ray of Light" can use a little enhancing. It's a shame that "Deeper and Deeper", and "I'll remember".
