Summary: You call this a collection?
Review: All In got to say is, WHERE THE HELL IS "WHEN DOVES CRY"? That's
the main reason I purchased this so-called collection (and I use the term "collection" loosely).I was very disppointed when I saw that it wasn't on here. That is Prince's most famous song. But on the other hand, you get some classics like "kiss",
"rasberry beret" and "little red corvette". But don't take my word for it, buy it yourself. You might actually like it.

Summary: The music of Prince gets 5 Stars - This collection gets 3.
Review: As a long time fan of Prince/The Artist Formerly Known As, I can honestly say that this is probably one of the worst arrangements for a comprehensive video collection possible. First of all, Only fifteen songs are represented from a collection of work that spans over 20 years, 24 albums, and MUCH MORE THAN 15 singles and videos! The best videos are missing from the collection... Where's "When Doves Cry," the most famous video of his career? Plus, all those videos that MTV and VH1 have only played once... like "I Wish U Heaven" and "Mountains." Secondly, The order of the songs is maddening! It makes absolutely no fricken sense, not being in chronological order, or any sort of order, for that matter. It appears that someone in the corporate offices of Warner Bros took all of the videos and tossed them in a bag, pulling them out at random until the 15 song quota had been met. On one positive note, it is the only Prince video collection available, and as a fan, I must recommend it if you've never seen some of his earlier work, as it is stunning/slightly mind blowing. There are a few redeeming video choices on the DVD that make it worthwhile... mainly his first video: "I Wanna Be Your Lover." If anyone from Warner Bros is reading this, please consider repackaging this re-release-on-DVD into a multilayer-DVD video hits package that is a bit more comprehensive... in chronological order. It makes much more sense... considering the vast number of fans that this artist STILL retains. I'm sure they'd love to buy it, if only it were available.

Summary: Better than nothing.....barely
Review: Boy, Warner has a lot of nerve calling this a "Hits" collection. I get the impression they're trying to turn Prince's fans against him by it and are laughing all the way to the bank with this sorry excuse for a best of collection. (I can just hear them now: "So you want Prince huh? OK, we'll give you Prince, but be careful what you ask for...mwahahaha")

So what do you get here? You get 4 great videos (1999, Kiss, Raspberry Beret, Cream), a couple of so-so ones (Little Red Corvette, a live version of "I'd Do Anything for You"), a couple that are just OK but seem more like filler (Cream, 7), and the rest are CRAP from very early in his career that hardly qualify as "hits", and that only the very ultra-hardcore Prince completist will enjoy or want to watch more than once. -- (Yeah the video for "Sign o' the Times" is from later, but it is BO-RING because it shows only the lyrics on your screen, no shots of Prince or anything else at all, since he was trying to be a "serious artist" at this time and wanted to put the emphasis on his music rather than his image.)

Also, the videos for Kiss and Raspberry Beret were not even the versions I remember. Did we have different videos for these songs in Canada? I dunno, but I was disappointed it wasn't what I had been waiting to see again.

Instead of wasting their money on this, I would recommend for Prince fans to search out Prince's 1987 "Sign o' the Times" concert DVD. Although it is not available domestically in North America (WHY???), it is available as a region 0 NTSC DVD from Brazil which works on all North American DVD players. (I wish Amazon sold it here, but do a Google search for "Sign o' the Times" and "Brazil").

Overall I'd rate this DVD 1.5 stars, but since there are no half stars and I was so disappointed and felt so ripped off, I decided to give it just 1.

Yes, Prince is a great artist, but unfortunately this DVD "Hits" collection does NOT do him justice. Consider yourself warned.

Summary: ~~FANTABUTANTASTICALOUS~~
Review: Does this guy do anyhting bad? I mean I have been a fan of the Royal one ever since I was about 7 years old. When CONTROVERSY was released I was hooked. And to this day in 2004 he is still my fav. Yes many say he has lost his edge and to a point I kind of agree... change is good. But anyway watching this collection of these vids makes me admire a great person even more. He has done so much for the music world and all of these "Artists" now which are on stage 4 the looks and not for the talent. He broke barriers, he changed the music world and he stood his ground and he is still around. Any true fan knows the reason behind his name change. Just to fulfill the contract with Warner Brothers as he released his true titles under 0)-+>. I will not get in2 that now but this DVD is incredible but then again it is 4 an incredible individual. So many rare videos are in this collection as u see a prodigy unfold before u. Any real Prince fan will purchase this if they have not already. And when I say "real fan" I am not talking about the ones that say "I love Prince... but his older stuff." No! Prince is a Presence that has not been appreciated yet. From Controversy to Dirty mind along with a live version of "I would die 4 u" taken right from the Purple Rain tour how could anyone go wrong? And u may even get a good laugh looking at how cheesy the 80's were with Dr. Fink with his surgical mask as he played the keys. Prince in his Thigh- Highs as his trademark. And the Studded Purple... shall I even say it? THE TRENCH!!! This guy molded a generation and made many follow. Prince is history and this DVD shows exactly why. It has it all from Wendy, Lisa, Dez Dickerson, Brown Mark, Sheila, Dr. Fink, Bobby Z, a screaching Prince, A splitting Prince, a guitar Master, a camera master, this is just incredible. He is timeless and this DVD shows exaclty why. The Talent along with songs that will go on 4 infamy as well as images. So 2 end it here this DVD is just OK! PSYCH!!! Get this!! Any person, and u do not have 2 be a Prince fan, will love this. Look at the talent, look at the women, look at the moves by his royal one. It is hands down FANTABUTANTASTICALOUS!!!!!

Summary: Shocking yet artsy..
Review: each video and each song with its own personality, its own look, its own sound. It;'s amazing that even today, year 2002, this man who first recorded an album in 1978 can be so fresh and exciting.

If you buy this video expecting expensive Madonna or Michael Jackson theatrics, you're going to be disappointed. Prince has never spent a lot of money on making actual music videos. Yet his fans' favorite videos seem to be the one's that are stripped down to nothing. (i.e., Kiss) Prince and a videocamera are enough to entertain me for hours...that's the quality of dancing and costume that can be found here, not 2 mention his incredibly versatile voice. 5 stars, without question.

Summary: My Top Collection
Review: Excellent Videos. No Prince fan should be without. I wasn't sure if I would like this video, I was not disapointed. My favourite is Kiss. The video quality is good and the sound is loud. More Prince More!

Summary: A poor representation of great artist
Review: Hold out for better, guys. This thrown-together collection is mighty weak and will only satisfy the beginner fan. I must agree with the naysayers: so much is missing. How bout that hot live version of "America" he did with the juicy horn line? How bout "Partyman"? What about that outstanding live version of "Anotherlover holeinyohead" (with another killer horn line)? "Batdance" showing his own original concept of good vs evil? Plus the ones already mentioned by other reviewers? All of these were released as videos back in the day. How bout those killer appearances on the AMA & grammy shows (baby I'm a star then purple rain, respectively) in the mid 80's? Some behind the scenes stuff would be nice. That's what DVD format is made for, folks. If u don't do it right why bother? Warner Bro has all these videos, I assume. Why play a major artist (and his fans) so cheap?
