Summary: The King of Cool
Review: Dean Martin is, was and shall ever be the epitome of cool. The man's warmth and good humor just shines through in this collection. This was a man who was truly having a kick doing what he did and he shared that fun with his audience. Even when the material is questionable, such as the uptempo arrangement on "Old Man River," Dino lets us in on the joke.

The video and audio could be better, but, hey, this is videotape that's over thirty years old. My only real gripe is that the songs are not individually chaptered.

If you are too young to remember Dean's show and know him only from his films, give this DVD a try. You're in for a treat!

Summary: ATTABOY, DINO!!
Review: Dean Martin was without a doubt one of the greatest entertainers who ever lived and it's great to see him back in action in this DVD. It's a pity there's no performer around today worthy of even shining his shoes. The video quality for the most part is quite good and the audio is fair, but much better if played thru a home theater system. I would have given this set five stars, if not for two drawbacks. At 64 minutes and 46 seconds, it's much too short. Also, the menu is flawed. I only hope that Greg Garrison or whomever is in charge of Dean's legacy, will release more sets of this type. Dino Crocetti, you are sadly missed!!

Summary: Dean Martin.........That's Amore
Review: FANTASTIC !! This DVD is what we've been waiting for. Dean at the peak of his career, thrilling us with song after song from his top rated TV Show. From beginning to end this DVD shows us the Dean we all know and love......the funny Dean, the charming Dean, the classy Dean, the serious Dean and of course the Dean with the smiling voice. If there was one short-coming with the whole package, it would be simply this.....IT'S NOT LONG ENOUGH.

Summary: Wow, what a guy!
Review: For a long long time fan of Dean Martin, such a DVD is a dream. Songs, songs and songs, with a minimum of comments (and they are intelligent). Even Petula Clark gained talent near Dino.
Great voice, great attitude, Dean Martin makes you forget how much the Sixties were plastic: he was so naturally classy ... He worked hard but seemed to succeed in everything effortlessly, and the way he lives his songs here, - so gently - (especially the ballads) is so touching that it brings tears to your astonished eyes. Tears of happiness, and joy, since, as all the greats, he managed to mix danger, drama, melancholy and a strange sadness with what was maybe the best surprise in this guy: an incredible sense of humor.
Let's hope more projects as decent as this one will come soon. We want more of Dean, as we want more of some other great naturals such as Elvis, Eddie Cochran, Gene Vincent, Jerry lee Lewis... It's about time you fellow Americans pay honest tributes to your true heroes, not only singers, but also comic strips artists, writers, movie directors, actors.

Summary: AMAZING
Review: For you who does know Dean and for you who does not know him yet. BUY this DVD and start questioning who really was supposed to be called THE VOICE. I love Sinatra, but here Dean teaches 'old blue eyes' some lessons.

Summary: Look, no Jerry
Review: God bless Jerry, but his talent was sticking things up his nose. Dean was Da' Man. I just happened to find this DVD by accident, didn't know it was out. What a find!! Buy your own, can't borrow mine!!

Summary: From The President of the Dean Martin Fan Center
Review: I don't want my review to sound prejudice... but this Video and DVD release is one that is close to my heart. Having actually been there during those years at NBC where Dean taped his weekly TV series, I have my own fond memories that may differ from the public's view... but this is where the essence of Dean's charisma and aura captured the nation. I was proud to have been there from the start and equally proud to have had a small part in presenting this special collection of songs.

Basically culled from the first three years of his nine year variety run, these full length, uninterrupted songs were painstakingly transferred from the original two-inch master tapes, many of which have not been played since they first aired many years ago. It was even a treat for me to see these shows again, and it confirms the fact that Dean could make you smile in just two minutes.

Lee Hale, the show's original Musical Director and later producer, was instrumental in bringing this material to light again, choosing the material needed for the new producers, David Leaf (who produced the previous Martin & Lewis series, "Birth of a Team" and "Kings of Comedy") and John Scheinfield assembling a show that also shows their own passion for Dean.

The VHS is about one hour long, with three more added songs to the DVD version (not seen during it's PBS debut)... "Carolina On My Mind", "Pretty Baby" and "I Wonder Who's Kissing Her Now" make the DVD about 10 minutes longer. It's music, music, music with two duets nested in between the pop solos and ballads, including Peggy Lee and Petula Clark.

We received thousands and thousands of e-mails,letters and calls from fans all over after this briefly aired on PBS. Everyone went crazy with excitement. The only complaints that we read were people's list of favorites which were not included in the hour... but with the titles we saw, it would take a 200 hour-long show to squeeze it all in. Maybe the success of this one will trigger a reaction for more of the same.

I have witnessed many bad projects and disappointing specials, but I have to give this one five stars plus for being the very best for any and all Dean Martin fans and those that are curious. Give it a try and let me know what you think!
