Summary: Lovely DVD though Natalie fumbled the lyrics
Review: First things first, this DVD will not disappoint the Dixie Chicks fans.

[Hold on: I'll talk about the fumbling at the end of this review]

I have heard a lot about the Home album being a departure in style from their previous two albums and there were some fears (largely unfounded) that the "Chicks" might lose some of the fans earned via their debut and sophomore albums --- perish that thought! Period!

There is certainly a tinge of bluegrass (mostly in "Long Tinme Gone"? I keep forgetting!) in their music, and being the professional and talented artistes they are, they have continually redefined their "sound" which is not a bad thing at all! How many times have we heard of those pop-bands that sound all alike (and we're not talking across albums, but across bands!!!)

The tracks I like a lot are (I like all of them actually) "Travelin' Soldier", "A Home" (I really don't know what they meant by "DVD/Video Version"???), "More Love", "Godspeed (Sweet Dreams)", "Top Of The World".

The playlist here at Amazon.com mentioned "Live From the Kodak Theater" which seems to suggest that they played at different venues. But, for the life of me, I couldn't make out the difference; it all looked like one single venue performance to me.

The "old treats" are as great as usual though I must admit I have never been a fan of "Sin Wagon".

The interaction between the Chicks themselves, and with the audience were wonderful. The audience seem to go wild everytime Martie does that thing with her fiddle-n-a-violin.

Coming to the fumbling: check out when the DVD time counter reads 1:02:37, "Top of the world". Natalie croones "I wish I could have stood, where you ..." and she fumbles the lyrics, mutters something unintelligible, and continues with the song! ha ha!

The audio is available in 16-bit PCM format (CD Stereo format) as well as Dolby Digital 5.1. The sound is extra clear and refined in the PCM mode while the Dolby format itself does a commendable job. The channel seperation in Dolby 5.1 is satisfactory with the audiences' claps and cheers taking up the surround channels and the vocals and instruments dominating the front three channels. Personally, I prefer the PCM audio stream which is clearer, sweeter, and leagues ahead of the Dolby stream!

Summary: Bluegrass Feel Doesn't Translate In Big Hall
Review: The Dixie Chicks would've done better if they had performed this concert in a bluegrass/country atmosphere--someplace where traditional music of that genre is performed. This performance in this elegant recital hall is forced and unnatural.

While they are adept at their craft, the DC's "pop" facade in this concert falls flat. The set list is also unimaginative. Their album "Home" is performed from start to finish, without break. The audience is "rewarded" with old DC faves "Goodbye Earl" and "Sin Wagon" only at the end. One feels like the crowd was just hanging around to hear the familiar old songs.

Not a strong effort.

Summary: Excellent Concert Film!...
Review: I am perhaps a newer Dixie Chicks fan. I've been listening to them for about a year and have fallen in love with their new album. I remember having seen portions of this concert on TV but I was amazed to see the DVD included performances of every single song on the album as well as some old favorites. The concert itself was wonderful and you felt as if you were on an intimate date with the girls. It's very touching. If you love country music, Dixie chicks or overall good music, make yourself a favor and pick this DVD up!

Summary: must-have dvd
Review: The menu is annoying, but the concert is great! The Dixie Chicks are clearly having a great time with the material (mostly from "Home"). It would have been better with a better menu, maybe an interview, and less shot-on-video footage. If you ever want to see a dramatic demonstration of the terrible resolution of some video cameras, just watch this DVD flip from film to video and back.

Summary: A "Must Have" for Dixie Chicks Fans
Review: If you've been enjoying their music for the past 5 years, like me - or a new fan, do yourself a favor and get this DVD. It showcases all the talents of these gifted women. "Travelin' Soldier" alone is worth the price of admission.

Summary: Absolutely Fantastic
Review: I have never been a country Music Fan. But as a listener to Don Imus in the AM I heard him talk about how great they were quite some time ago. Didn't really pay a lot of attention - again not a Country Music Fan. But then I happened to catch a small bit of the "Chicks" Concert on TV. I was spellbound. Had to have this new video -Kodak Center in LA. I have to tell you this is one of the best Concert Tapes-DVD ever recorded. The ending will absolutely blow you away. This is a must DVD for ANYONE who enjoys music - Period..

Summary: Overly Bright and Harsh Vocal Mix Spoils Performance
Review: Hmmm...why does this happen. A great concert moment spoiled by poor engineering. This isn't the first time.

I have ~35-40 Music Concert DVD's I listen to often. I know a good recording when I hear one. Plenty of examples (e.g. Diana Krall Live in Paris - DTS, Billy Idol VH1 Storytellers - DTS, Eagles Hell Freezes Over - DTS, etc.)

Unfortunately the engineers mixing this recording failed miserably. The naturally "piercing" voice of lead singer Natalie Maines comes across as extremely harsh and fatiguing. So very disappointing.

I know every combination of electronics and speakers can sound different, but my combination sounds stellar on 99% of the various music DVD's and SACD's I own.

Buyer beware.

Summary: America's best female group
Review: This is an excellent profile of this great American group.
The sound quality of the Dolby Digital recording is excellent and compares to the sound quality of The Eagles 'When Hell Freezes Over'which I feel was the best ever.
I am delighted to be one of the few Europeans who will see and hear this DVD because of regional coding.
I would recommend this DVD to any music lover.

Summary: Great performance, bad editing
Review: The Chicks look and sound great on this DVD. While the live songs aren't very different from the album versions, the show is solid and well worth the purchase.

My only gripe is the constant switching between cameras, especially on the faster songs. But maybe I'm alone in wanting to see the entire stage for more than 2 seconds at a time. This is made worse by the fact that every camera seems to use a different lens and/or filter.
