Summary: An Evening Well Spent!
Review: I had heard a couple of songs by the Dixie Chicks on the radio and decided to give this DVD a try.
I'm glad I did. This is an excellent DVD - good music, performed live in front of a very enthusiastic audience and
produced (engineered) well - good sound and editing.

I'd have to say I am starstruck/lovestruck/awestruck by lead singer Natalie Maines. What a terrific performer! So beautiful and so talented. She belts out some truly impressive solos in such a large, powerful voice - I was blown away. She also harmonizes well with the other girls - I thought the vocals were very well done. I also liked the instrumental solos - there's a whole lotta fiddlin', pickin', and strummin' going on.

My favorite tracks are "Long Time Gone" (a classic), "White Trash Wedding" (very funny) and "Tortured, Tangled Hearts" (ironic and so true). I defy anyone to NOT tap your foot to these songs. These are songs we all can identify with. The songs have good melodies; the words tell a story and make sense; they are performed with feeling by professionals - it's a pleasure to watch these ladies perform (and the band is very good).
This is one good show.

Natalie introduces her dad at one point, a guitar player in the band. She probably grew up performing and that's why she seems so comfortable and confident in front of a huge audience. She is completely at ease, joking with the band members and the audience between songs, just being herself. Very cool. When the music starts she's down to business and delivers the goods - it's hard not to like and respect this lady. She is a truly talented performer.

This DVD also passes the "Multiple Play" test. I've been playing it repeatedly for the last 3 weeks. This is a concert you'll want to watch again.
I can't rate this DVD high on extras because there are none (aside from a discography and short bio of the band).
Perhaps in their next DVD we can see some back stage footage, more band footage, and some out-takes. These are always interesting to watch. We all want to see more of the Dixie Chicks!

I would recommend this DVD to anyone. Good music, performed well, and fun to watch - more than once.

Summary: A Fun Evening
Review: First, let me confess that I am not a country music fan. My wife, however, became a big fan of the Dixie Chicks recently, so I became a fan by proxy.

The Chicks perform a variety of their songs here, mostly from their latest album "Home", but also some standards from previous albums.

The ladies seem to really enjoy performing and are at times energetic while other times they are relaxed. They even chat with their audience between numbers. We hope to see them perform when they come to our area, but in the meantime you can't get much closer than this excellent DVD.

Sound quality is superb, and picture quality was clear and even. The DVD comes in a paper case with a booklet insert. A great disc to watch or to just have playing in the background while you work around the house or relax. Well worth your money.

The music is fantastic, the girls are beautiful, the quality of the DVD is perfect. This is definitely a must buy. Loved it all the way through.

Summary: This DVD Rocks!!!!!
Review: This DVD has something for everyone!!! The Dixie Chicks put on one heck of a live show. If you are a long time fan of the Chicks or you are just a curious music lover who wants to see what all of the fuss is about, this DVD is for you. The set list is comprised mostly of their "Home" album, but contains a few old favorites like "Goodbye Earl", "Sin Wagon" and "Cowboy Take Me Away." The Energy of this performance is off the chart, and is well worth the low price of admission. The audio is crisp and clear and was remastered in dolby digital 5.1 surround sound for all of you home theater buffs. So in short, if you want to see a group of very talented musicians play some of the best music to come out of Nashville in years, put this DVD in your shopping cart.

Summary: Nothing to brag about.
Review: I used to like the Chicks and watched a friend's copy of the DVD. The music is good, but I won't be buying any for myself. As already mentioned, the editing is terrible. I think they'll have much more success marketing this product in Europe, where I'm sure they are very popular these days.

Summary: Genre-Free Delight
Review: I get goose bumps listening to Edith Piaf sing in a language of which I know barely a dozen words. And I choke up watching Hibari Misora (Japan's greatest Enka singer) pour her heart out in an unfathomable idiom, anchored in a culture I only vaguely understand. Great music knows no genre. And on this DVD, the Dixie Chicks make great music. Country-schmountry.

I don't know what they did or didn't say about America or Iraq or politicians. I gave up trying to filter my movie-watching and music-listening through a political screen years ago. Too many people were annoying me with their opinions, and I was missing out on too much art. Artistic talent and intelligence are not the same thing and frequently do not reside in the same person, and to look to artists for political views is one of the cankers of this era.

Enjoy this DVD. It's amazing. And that is enough.

Summary: The Chicks keep pleasin'
Review: You have to give these chicks their due respects. Opening a show with a set list of songs no one has ever heard, (at the time) and keeping a lively Kodak theater audience in it from the start is no minor accomplishment. From the opening "Long Time Gone" through the set to "Top of the World", these ladies showcase their talents behind great cinematography, and show why they have sold millions of records. The enthusiasm, and appreciation of the crowd is apparent from the start thanks to some great editing. These folks are reacting to the talent without actually knowing the songs. Martie is the fan favorite at the outset with her fine fiddling, until Natalie marks her strong vocal presence with her kickass style. A very pregnant Emily combines with her strong banjo and dobro talent to round out the headliners. They give the approving crowd a "few treats" for staying enthusiastic and its well worth the wait. Starting with Wide Open Spaces, the waiting crowd reacts with an almost Mormon Tabernacle Choir style sing along, and tries to keep up through Cowboy Take me Away. Never tiring of killing Earl, The Chicks keep the crowd in a frenzy with a great rendition. The incredible backup band gets to showcase themselves with an awesome performance on Sin Wagon which a true music lover will want to watch again and again. For a fan of the band, this DVD delivers time and time again

Summary: Yeehaa Dixie Chicks
Review: I was channel hopping one night and this special came on at 12 midnight An Evening with the Dixie Chicks. I started to watch it and never having heard of the Chicks before was a bit sceptical of an all girl band, that and the fact that country isnt my fav style of music. But I was hooked from the first note. What a show! Fantastic sound, arrangements and production, not to mention the music. That voice of Natalies is so powerful and pure, I cant say enough good things about them.I went out next day and brought the DVD and now want everything I can get of the Dixie Chicks.A must have DVD for any music fan. MY two favorites from this DVD are Truth Number 2 and Goodbye Earl. The later being a real anthem and hopefully inspiration to any battered wives at the hands of gutless men.Go out and buy it!!

Review: Hey: that small slip of the tounge was blown far out of porportion. Look at the other things that have been done and said. I sure couldn't be looked at with a magnifying glass every minute of my life. Get this disk, it's a good show.
