Summary: THE BEST !!!!!
Review: I was thinking of actually buying tickets to that Detroit concert, but with a price of over $200 I decided not to. Wow, what a mistake!!! After buying the DVD and watching it several times, I can't believe that I missed this awesome, once-in-a-lifetime experience to watch this incredible show live. It is truly an amazing and breathtaking concert and one can only imagine what it must have been like seeing it live. Madonnas creativity and performance are just stunning. I can recommend this DVD to anyone - it's worth every single penny. Enjoy and have fun.

Summary: I'd give this 6 stars if I could!!!
Review: This dvd showcases what my 2 best friends and I have dreamed of since we were 6! We were actually at this very concert in Madonna's home town of Detroit and it was one of the best days of our lives!!! Madonna is truly an incredible entertainer. Her version of La Isla Bonita towards the end of the concert was breathtaking. It's such a shame all of her fans couldn't
be at her concert in Detroit but this dvd is as close as it gets to conveying what it was like. Get your girlfriends together and watch this dvd over and over and over...

Summary: The Drowned World Tour (2001)
Review: Before this amazing tour, Madonna held four incredible North American/World Tours. Those tours are: The Virgin Tour (1985; which supported the Like A Virgin {1984} album), The Who's That Girl Tour (1987; which supported the film and soundtrack to Who's That Girl {1987}), The Blond Ambition Tour (1990; which supported the Like A Prayer (1989) and I'm Breathless (1990) albums), and The Girlie Show Years Tour (1993; which supported the Erotica (1992) album).

Eight years after The Girlie Show Years Tour, Madonna put together The Drowned World Tour, which was to support the Music (2000) album. The tour was named after her song, Drowned World (Substitute For Love), which can be found on her Ray Of Light (1998) album. When this tour was put together, I finally had another way of buying tickets. Unfortunately, I couldn't buy tickets because the day she brought the tour to South Philadelphia was the day I was going to Florida. You wouldn't believe how that ticked me off. Fortunately, I was able to get this DVD and see how the concert was. I couldn't believe what I saw. I became even angrier that I to miss seeing live. I missed an outstanding show. Madonna still has her way of making her concerts creative to the point where we can have a great time. The only thing that disappointed me was that she rarely did any of her older material. The only songs that she did from her older albums were Holiday, La Isla Bonita, Secret, and Human Nature. The rest were songs from her Ray Of Light album and her Music album. All the performance were unbelievably incredible. I recommend that everybody buy this DVD if you didn't see it live or on HBO. This concert will have your mouthes dropped down to your knees. You will all love it.

Here is the list of songs she performed during this concert:

Drowned World (Substitute For Love)
Impressive Instant
Candy Perfume Girl
Beautiful Stranger
Ray Of Light
Frozen
Nobody's Perfect
Mer Girl/Sky Fits Heaven Medley
I Deserve It
Don't Tell Me
Human Nature
The Funny Song (Oh Dear Daddy)
Secret
Gone
Lo Que Siente La Mujer (What It Feels Like For A Girl-Spanish Version)
La Isla Bonita
Holiday

Summary: Bore
Review: This concert was so boring, I am so glad I didn't spend money to see Madonna perform.

Summary: Awesome!
Review: I went to the concert when it was here in Boston ($225 a seat - and we couldn't even see Madge). The show was so spectacular that I had to see it close-up. This DVD gave me just that and the sound is amazing - just amazing!

There was so much happening onstage, it would have been impossible to capture it all but I do wish that they'd had a supplement that would let the viewer see the whole stage at once without changing camera angle.

Summary: THE BIGGEST TOUR OF THE 2000'S
Review: I got to see Madonna three times, las vegas and 2 shows L.A, Being my first time in 17 years as a huge fan i was relived. She had the audience in a trance, Its was not a frenzy thing like i expected, its like we waited till the end to breath out. It was a kick ass show, cool DVD.. Though most of the 80's classics were left out, but its good cause the setting of the stage woudlnt had went with the old stuff. Im sure next tour or till the farewell tour we will be suprised. Janet and Cher give good shows as well, but they repeat the same songs/ same acts just different costumes. Madonna can still shock and suprised the world. And selling out all 47 shows. Who can top that. nobady thats who. Todays new boodies still have along way to GO wont even get a quarter close.. MADONNA RULES

Summary: Amazing to watch, fails to connect.
Review: Much has been said of Maddy's last tour, Drowned World 2001. Eight long years passed between this tour and her prior tour ('93's The Girlie Show). Was it worth the wait? Yes, and no.

Madonna has become so incredibly self-conscious in recent years, that she doesn't allow herself to be spontaneous at times. Madonna's shows have always been precise and cohesive. That doesn't necessarily equate a show that connects with its audience, although it may entertain and wow the senses. Madonna's lack of spontaneity performing live weakens her shows at times since it's the same production night after night. After a certain amount of shows, the performer (this case being Madonna) becomes bored with the show...wouldn't you after doing the same thing over, and over, and over again?

Before, Madonna rose above such calculation because she seemed to genuinely enjoy performing. This was most evident on '93's Girlie Show tour. Although Blond Ambition will forever remain Maddy's classic tour, The Girlie Show came after a Madonna backlash by the media and public. The only thing Madonna had supporting her was herself, her close friends/family, and lastly her fans. She gave her all to her fans during her '93 tour, as was captured on film and for anyone who saw her live that year. Madonna connected to her audience because she *wanted* to connect.

Drowned World, unfortunately, suffers a lot from Madonna's newfound spirituality, children/husband, and self-consciousness. Madonna no longer needs to connect to her audience because she, in a way, no longer needs them. The show is strictly there for Madonna alone, not for her fans. This is why most of the tracks played during Drowned World are new tracks off her last two albums. Out of a 22 set-list, she only includes two old/classic tracks...the rest are mostly tracks she had never performed live before. This might be exciting for the artist performing, but it's not very enjoyable for the fans.

Madonna is distant in Drowned World, and somewhat cold. Again, due to the fact that she doesn't truly involve the audience in the show. The only time she speaks to the audience is during "The Funny Song" and for anyone who has seen multiple shows from the Drowned World tour (myself being one of them), they know it's the same song/dance routine for every city she hit.

On Madonna's most recent promotional tour for her "American Life" album all she had was her voice, her guitar player, and small audiences of 300 or less people. It's during these small shows that Madonna seemed happy, and seemed to genuinely connect with her fans (or at least pretended to). During a show of 20,000 + people every night in front of you, it's not so important for them to see what you emote vs. simply getting through the show, singing the songs, and hitting your dance steps.

Not to say that Drowned World is not amazing to watch, it absolutely is. The show is an incredible combination of lights, music, and theatrics. The coreography for Madonna's troupe of dancers is forward, and agressive...it works for the show since Drowned World is very much about agressiveness, and power. The show is solid, and it doesn't stop for anything, not even audience applause. The show is like a beautiful art/masterpiece in a museum...you look at it in awe, but you never connect to it.

Maybe Madonna should consider this the next time she goes on tour. The audience reactions when she performed "Like A Virgin" and "Like A Prayer" during the promo tour for her latest album was overwhelming. It was during these songs that you saw the audience smile, and Madonna smile with them. Obviously, Drowned World shouldn't have *only* included the oldies, but she should have split it up like she did during '93's Girlie Show (half of the tracks performed were new, while the remaining half were the classics).

Hopefully the next time Maddy tours she will remember that concerts are there for the audience as much as the artist. It is where the performer's audience finally gets to connect past their CD player. During Drowned World, you never see Madonna smile. It's sad, she used to really enjoy performing for us.

Ahh well...

Summary: Spectacular
Review: Eight years passed from her "Girlie Show Tour". Her stage presentation in the "Drowned World Tour" proved that it was worth the wait. Madonna returns to her home state, Michigan. The audience's screamish cheering was her warm welcome home. Her family watched her from the second row.

Her multiple costume changes and elaborate stage setting made the concert more spectacular. She dresses as a punk rocker, a giesha girl, a hip-hop star, a clubber, a spanish woman, and a sex kitten. She expresses her true feelings that fit the worn costume: spirituality, sexuality, anger, fun, etc. Despite her newfound motherhood and spirituality, she remains controversal and energetic. The elaborate settings range from reenacting "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" martial arts moves, making a gunshooting real-looking, wearing a dress with fifty-foot wide sleeves, etc. There's much more Madonna work genius in this DVD, but one must watch to discover them. If I revealed them, it would ruin the audience's thrills.

I got the rare opportunity to watch this show live at Chicago. Obviously, I'd recommend the live show over the DVD. It's far more spectacular.

Summary: GREAT SHOW, HORRIBLY FILMED
Review: Well, I know this was a fabulous show, but could the film be any worse?! I don't think the film makers even thought twice before shooting this mess. The cinematography (if you can venture to call it that) absolutely destroys the artistic nature of Maddy's venture.

To begin with, this should be letterboxed. Way too many close ups destroy the scope of what is happening on the stage. The full frame just demolishes the performance. Not to mention it is incredibly blurry. Mr. Hamilton should study Sophie Muller's "Sade Lovers Live" for an example of how to exquisitely capture a live stage performance.

It really disappoints me that Madonna let this one slip by, knowing how she likes to retain some level of artisitic control of her material. Probably just a quick way to make a buck. A little extra time, care & money could have produced a concert film which would stand the test of time & be a document of Madonna's final tour -- second best to "Blonde Ambition" (so wonderfully captured in "Truth or Dare")

Instead we get some disposable [movie] which irritates me more every time I watch it. I'm not sure Mr. Hamilton & company were even aware or interested in what they were shooting. Shame on you guys! And damn you Madonna for trusting this great show to amateurs. Get a decent director -- or use your hubby for God's sake! He was with you on the tour. Too bad... it's history now. What were they thinking?

Avoid this-- buy "Truth or Dare" instead.
