Summary: MADONNA IS AMAZING!
Review: I saw this show live in NY and I was amazed at Madonna's energy throughout. I also saw the show on HBO and felt that you missed out on a lot seeing it on a screen. The DVD is another animal altogether. They have vastly improved on the show by setting up different camera angles and the sound is out of this world. I could watch this concert every day. Madonna still has it!

Summary: a five stars concert!
Review: "Drowned World" is an excellent show and I'm glad it was released in DVD format. This is the special HBO presented live from michigan, on august 26. In this tour, madonna sings some of her greatest songs, which were never performed live since "the girlie show" tour.

As every madonna's concert, expect to listen to good music, to see artistic performances of her and her dancers. The show is divided in 4 different "worlds" with songs specially selected and related to the main theme. I really like the "japanese" world and the cowgirl world.

Don't miss the performances of "Don't tell me", "frozen" and "music". There's much energy on them and you can see how madonna has been improving her vocals, since the very beginning of her successful career.

The only thing I miss in this DVD is the special area. As a fan, I was hoping to find some video, or pre show special, as presented in HBO on the day of the live broadcast. Unfortunately, they did not include any new material, except for a photo gallery that does not add much to this DVD.

After watching it several times, I'm sure madonna has much more to bring in terms of music. She is the queen of pop, the woman of the midia, who is reinventing herself in every CD, in each tour.

Summary: Madonna¿s self-indulgent tour- Take it or leave it
Review: Drowned World has been both a commercially and critically acclaimed tour, and it's also a rather bizarre tour. You'll either love it or hate it.
Bizarre?- yes. Dark, somewhat sombre?- in the first half, yes. Creative?- yes. Innovative?- probably not. Visually intriguing?- yes. Entertaining?- definitely. Worth buying?-well that's up to you.

The first act is Madonna lost in a post-apocalyptic punk world where she fights off men in glowing gas-masks and Union-Jack garb. Theatrically it's quite an impressive spectacle, such as the fire-extinguisher scene in "Impressive Instant" and the wild dancing in "Ray of Light". Though the real highlight is Madonna's electric guitar performance of the odd choice, "Candy Perfume Girl".

The second act (my favorite one) is so theatrical, that it's too "out there" for audiences. She revisits her geisha persona telling a violent story of a woman overcoming being physically and emotionally tormented by misogynist samurais. You have nearly naked male dancers hanging on meat hooks during the haunting "Paradise" video. There's the painfully emotional performance of "Noboby's Perfect". The "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" inspired performance of "Sky Fits Heaven" is probably Madonna's most creative choreographed number in years.

The western-themed third act is toned-down and M is more interactive with the audience. The highlights include her acoustic guitar performance of "I Deserve It" (and you can tell M loved doing it); Madonna looking sexy at 43 while riding a mechanical bull during "Human Nature"; and her singing in "Gone" (her most stripped-down number of the night).

The fourth act is a mixture of Spanish culture with 70s pimp-style. Madonna has this tounge-in-cheek gender-bending theme going on (bald women in suspenders, men in corsets playing casinets), such as in the sensual "Lo Que Sienta La Mujer". She gets intimate with the audience again during a lovely acoustic performance of "La Isla Bonita". She then ends off the night with the show-stopping performances of "Holiday" and "Music".

Some would have preferred if Madonna had performed more of her older hits, but she made it clear early on that her last 2 albums would be the focus. If you want to hear her perform "Material Girl", then watch her older tours, she wants to move forward. Anyone who knows her work are aware that she hasn't catered to any fans' needs since 1989.

Some aren't exactly sure what the central theme of Drowned World is; for me it's hard to pinpoint that. Entertainment Weekly believes that the tour is loosely inspired by the cult novel, "The Drowned World", which is divided into 4 books discussing some of these themes in M's tour. Other than the female empowerment messages in three of the four acts, the point is not as cohesive as in her Blond Ambition Tour.

I got to see her live in New Jersey and I admit that HBO still doesn't do her justice. Since there's no lip-synching, her singing has improved while her guitar playing is great. But give Madonna credit for always keeping us curious and raising the artistic level several notches on your run-of-the-mill pop concerts.

Summary: Madonna doing what she does best.
Review: Like most Americans, I didn't have the cash to fork out to see Madonna in concert, so I was very glad to at least have an opportunity to catch it on this DVD. Although her concert isn't the greatest-hits show many folks were expecting, it's still a great performance that explains why Madonna is such a vital staple in pop culture. The show has multiple themes: the "ghetto cowgirl" performances of "Human Nature" and "Don't Tell Me," the "Crouching Tiger"-inspired rendition of "Sky Fits Heaven," and her re-working of "Candy Perfume Girl" in a kilt. Madonna didn't dig that far into her back catalogue for this concert: the only two 80's songs she did were "La Isla Bonita" and a faithful rendition of "Holiday." As with many concert DVDs, there aren't many features on this disc. We get weblinks (lame!) and a shabbily assembled photo gallery (more lame!), although we do get subtitles for the song's lyrics, which is a big plus. Those gripes aside, the DVD is reasonably priced for any Madonna fan to add to their collection.

Summary: I like Madonna but didn't like this concert...
Review: and I'm glad that I didn't waste my $$ to go to this concert. I did buy the DVD and I wish I would have rented it first. For being an energetic pop performer, this concert was dark...very dark for about 90% of the show. I'm not one for dark concerts and I really don't understand why it was that dark.

I would suggest people to rent it first or borrow it from a friend if you missed it on HBO, before you buy it. As IMO it's not Madonna's style.

Summary: Drowned in Madonna
Review:
Firstly, I must say that the show is AWESOME and Madonna's voice is spectacular, never better than before. Try this, a stunning and full voice even after all the prancing, dancing, jumping, and even flying. This ain't no Mariah/Whitney/Celine live show where the only requirement is to sing at the top of one's voice. It's truly entertainment that's both visual and aural.

Madonna even attempts the guitar on several songs, making it even more worthwhile to see. Her vocals on almost all the songs were fantastic, something she hasn't achieved on the other tours. Though less well-coordinated than The Blonde Ambition or girlie show tours, all that Madonna has given here totally compensates the loss. Imagaine singing and dancing for 100 minutes and still looking as good as ever!

The show is of cos made very good by the help of stage personnel including drummers, guitarists and those sexy dancers. The special effects on stage are excellent.I must also commend Madonna's long-time backup singers Niki Haris and Donna De Lory. Without them, Madonna's shows seem less complete and the support they have lent her over the last 15 years have been tremendous, as evident in their on stage chemistry.

What's good on this DVD are the different angular shots plus the nice add-in effects. also available is an extensive picture gallery containing tons of great unseen Madonna photos. The sound here is blasting with three options to choose from including Dolby Surround 2.0/5.0 and AC 5.1.

If you didn't have a chance to se Madonna live and probably will never see her, like me, pick up tis DVD and you wont be disaapointed.

Summary: SPECTACULAR CONCERT!!! AMAZING QUALITY DVD!!!
Review: First things first...the concert. Madonna never fails to impress and this concert is no exception. The show is a PERFECT theatrical representation of the music. Her voice never sounded better and the setlist is incredible. Don't expect to hear many old songs because you won't. This show is for her RAY OF LIGHT and MUSIC!! The only older songs she does is "Human Nature", "Secret", "La Isla Bonita",and "Holiday".
Highlights are the dramatic entrance of "Drowned World/Substitute For Love" where even standing still the entire time, the music and visuals fill you with excitement of the spectacle to come. "Candy Perfume Girl" sees Madonna rocking hard on an electric guitar. "Frozen" has her with a kimono that has 26-foot long sleeves. "What It Feels Like For A Girl" is the crowning point as the song is beautifully sung in Spanish with a unique interpretation of the music.
Now, for the actual DVD. This is of the highest quality. The 5.1 Dolby Digital and DTS is flawless. I saw the show live in Las Vegas, and the sound on the DVD rivals the actual live show! For those who saw the HBO special, you will find new camera angles and creative shots on the home video release. For those who wanted another city other than Detroit, don't worry. Madonna performed this show exactly the same in every city (save for a few "You'll See" performances in a couple of cities). Overall, this is the best concert DVD you will ever find. GO SEE IT!!!!

Summary: The best Madonna tour
Review: What to say about Madonna??? The greatest woman in show business??? I don't think it's enough, and she has proved it to the world on her last tour...
The show is fantastic, her voice is on top form, she is energetic as always.
Technology is all over the place, the whole show is eye candy like the music is ear candy...
The gorgeous Substite for Love sets the mood for the whole show...
Impressive Instant is classic Madonna and then she grabs a guitar and ROCKS the place in Candy Perfume Girl...
The Geisha segment is BEAULTIFUL and mystical featuring Madonna flying around doing karate moves...
Technology is all over the place, the whole show is eye candy like the music is ear candy.
In the middle of all technology there is a very heartfelt and soulful moment that is Lo Que Sientes La Mujer ( Madonna sounds beaultiful singing in spanish ) and La Isla Bonita, it's impossible not to get moved with the dancer ( Antonio ) dancing flamenco....it's wonderful...and then the comes to an end with the place coming down to the sound of Holiday and Music.
This is Madonna....so there's nothing more to say.
The sound and picture quality is fantastic.
People have been complaining about the lack of old hits, but this show is SO good, that I really don't miss any old hit...trust me.
Get this DVD now...you won't disapointed!
