Rating: Summary: Glowing Review from Its #1 FAN Review: I first saw this movie when I was an impressionable 7-year-old in 1982. Needless to say, it left its mark and I searched for the video for the newxt 17 years. I can't rave enough about this movie..I have seen it literally 100's of times. I listen to my soundtrack every day. Who wouldn't want to be Lucy or Strawberrry? The costumes, hair and scenery are wonderfully garish, but what WASN'T in the late 70's? I feel like a member in the elitist and most private club of fans who love this movie as much as I do! In fact, I like anyone who has even HEARD of it because it seems to be such a (GASP) "forgotten" film. My favorite scenes are, "Lucy In the Sky with Diamonds", "You Never Give Me Your Money" and both the opening and finale of the title song..This is a must for Beatles/70's Fans who want to watch an enjoyable movie..no thinking required!
Rating: Summary: Screw The Crititcs! Review: This was my first encounter with Beatles music. It was because of this movie that I bought all of my Beatle's albums. It's a fun movie, if you take it too seriously you WILL hate it. But, for those who can lighten up and enjoy a weak plot with great music, this one's for you.
Rating: Summary: Fun and Diversionary Review: Like many movie-musicals (Grease, Xanadu, etc.), this film is intended to focus on sounds--not plot or character development. Those looking for the latter should avoice all musicals. This is light-hearted, plotless but full of solid musical performances. Conoissures can go to Cannes.
Rating: Summary: A Must-Have for Bee Gees Fans Review: This movie would not win any awards, but is pure entertainment. It is silly, funny, sad, and just plain stupid in places. The best part is listening to Beatles songs done by a group who can actually sing! There are a few slow spots, but that's what the FF button is for.
Rating: Summary: A Nice Showcase for Beatles MUSIC! Review: I took my children to see this movie when it was first released. They were Frampton and BeeGees fans and didn't really listen to the Beatles. I, however, owned every Beatles album in existance as I now own the CD's. I never saw why the reviewers hated this movie and it's accompanying album. The music was very well done, every song. If you wanted the Beatles then this was not for you, but if you liked Beatles music then the performances were fine. I loved George Burns' rendition of "I'm Fixing A Hole Where The Rain Comes In" and many of the other performances were great for the novel performances of the original Beatles music. If you wanted great acting and directing, well then this movie is not for you. It's not a very good movie. If you like to listen to offbeat and different performances of the Beatles' music, I don't see how you can go wrong.
Rating: Summary: Buy it Now Review: If you like the Beatles or the BeeGees you have to have this tape. The film lacks in speed in some parts but all in all a rather good show.Plot is like that of all beatle related movies weak but you buy the movie for the songs well done buy a dozen artists.
Rating: Summary: Nice Keith! Review: Not for the weak of stomach! And NOT for all Beatles fans. There are those who, finding themselves confronted with the sight of Alice Cooper singing Because, or worse yet, George Burns singing Fixing A Hole, may want to cut and run while they still think themselves sane. I however, love the movie wholeheartedly, rejoicing in the Bee Gees in all their seventies glory. Peter frampton gives me a queasy feeling in my stomach, and I think Sandy Farina has no self respect, but that doesn't keep me from thoroughly enjoying the performances of Paul Nicholas, Dianne Steinberg, Donald Pleasance, Frankie Howerd, Steve Martin, Stargard, Aerosmith and so on. The storyline is basic (good slugs it out over evil to the sound of Beatles tunes remade in the image of the artists who cover them), the costumes are WILD, and the hair is LONG. It does give one pause to consider how much more beautiful the movie would have been with Andy Gibb as Billy Shears, in place of the toothy and pop eyed Frampton. But that's just a thought from this very devoted Gibb fan.
Rating: Summary: This movie is the best movie I have ever viewed! Review: This movie,I thought, perfectly desribed the seventies. This movie was funny. It was also sad.You must have had to be on major drugs to understan it! :)
Rating: Summary: Thoroughly enjoyable! Review: I first saw this movie when I was 6 years old. And, despite how ridiculous it is sometimes, it turned me into a life-long Beatles and BeeGees fan. There are so many fun and campy moments in this film - I will always love it.
Rating: Summary: Mindless Musical Mess Butchers the Beatles Review: Ho, boy. From the opening moments of the film, the garishly childish pastels of the costumes and scenery, and the cheesy high school band sentiments, should be enough of a warning to stop the tape. If you don't, be prepared to listen to Beatles songs softened to the squishy point of matching the decor. This film's faithful dependence on the Beatles' archives being the sole source of the song options brings the seemingly stoned cast staggering through the most ridiculously unfathomable, so-called storyline. The very fact that Stigwood thought he could get a hit out of this bomb makes the reality of 1978's audience reaction justifiable. Don't see it unless you are a huge fan of the cast members. (then again, maybe that's even more of a reason not to see it)
