Summary: 'Feeling sadder every day....'
Review: Fun to have a look to the oldies of this band. If you listen carefully, you find that still a bit of the fire of the old days is still there. Therefore the one star! The new players in the band are musical qualified, but they totally miss the own musical concept of Chicago. Terry Kath will always be an unbearable loss to this band and I really miss some special musical bass-patterns by Peter Cetera, although in voice he is substituted rather well. The voice of the organ player is really terrible: we call him the 'chicken farmer' here! Nice DVD to have and join the party, but musically it makes me sadder every day. I wonder if there still are some good tapes of a good ol' Chicago concert available that could be produced on DVD. Robert Lamm, I will keep my 5 stars for that occasion, I promise!

Summary: Peter Cetera Is The Voice of Chicago !
Review: How can Chicago be Chicago without the voice of Peter Cetera? I'm hoping that Chicago releases a music video compilation on DVD with Chicago songs from the past when Peter Cetera was with them, Chicago's music DVD's are not so impressing these days til one is released with Peter's voice included in it!

Summary: This is not the best performance of Chicago
Review: I aggree with that one guy, who really was mad about this DVD, but not completely. What definetely is correct is his opinion about the singing of Bill Champlin.
Man, I guess Bill was under drugs, when he was on stage that night. His vocals on "Dialogue" for example, are horrible. Only screaming in the highest notes is not an attribute of a god singer.
But the rest of the band were doing fine in my mind. Sometimes the choir vocals where not correct or not that rich sounding, what I'm used to hear from Chicago. But it was a live recording !

Summary: Good video quality, great songs, HORRIBLE SOUND
Review: I bought this DVD at a Best Buy's and then read the reviews on this site. At first I thought that it was nit-picking by sound fanatics or engineers, but when I put this on the DVD player, I was astounded at the horrible mixing of sound that was in the DVD. The bass was pumped up heavily (I had to bring down overall bass in my receiver), the drums were nice and present, the piano was barely there, the brass would be "in and out" (which is what I love about Chicago! I couldn't hear the brass clearly) and the voices couldn't be heard (can you believe that? THE VOICES!). I took the DVD to a recording engineer friend's house who has a more modern sound system with digital DTS and 7 recording studio quality speakers to listen to the DVD there. Same problems. The problem wasn't my system, it was the DVD's sound mix. I'm very disappointed with Chicago. This is the only DVD that I can find of them and its sound is horrible. I can't believe none of the members listened to this DVD and told the engineer to go back into the studio and re-mix. If you want to see the band, the DVD is great, but if you want to HEAR the band, skip it. The bad sound will overshadow all the other good things of the DVD.

Summary: Ignore the naysayers
Review: I bought this DVD with some trepidation, due to some of the negative comments posted here. DON'T LISTEN TO THEM! I saw Chicago live in 1985, then again in December 2003. I wanted more, so I bought this DVD - and loved it. The music is great (sounded great on my Sony surround system), & the conversations with band members are nice. The only negative - the DVD is peppered with inane comments from Jay Leno, the Sapranos, Regis Philbin, et. al. If you love Chicago, you'll love this DVD.

Summary: Chicago Never Grows Old
Review: I have been a fan since their inception, and I am also a drummer for 45 years. Even with the changes in the personnel over the years, the sound is the same and better! The four originals are awesome. Bill Champlin is icing on the cake, Jason sounds so much like Peter Cetera but different. The addition of Keith on guitar and vocals just makes this band that much better. I watched him on the James Brown Live at The House of Blues video and know one of his teachers. His singing is awesome, the band is awesome. It goes to show you that good music never fades away! It always makes me smile!

Summary: A Must Own for Chicago Fans
Review: I have to disagree with many of the reviews I have read. I am a huge Chicago fan and I love this DVD. There are a few off key vocal moments here and there, but this is a live show. If you want perfection, listen to the studio stuff where they had all day to go back and correct things like that.

As far as the sound quality, I guess if you are a sound engineer you will probably pick out some things that could be better. For the rest of us, it sounds great!

For the Jason Scheff haters out there, I have just a few words, "Question 67 and 68!" He rocks that song! It's not Jason's fault that Peter Cetera decided to leave the band and drift into obscurity doing mushy ballads. The band moved on, and they did it in a big way with Jason. I think he sounds GREAT!

I also thought Bill Champlin's vocals still sound really good. He is still hitting those high notes in "Make Me Smile" at his age!

Overall, the music, the sound, the horns (My God The Horns!!!!) all sound great.

If you are a Chicago fan, this is a MUST OWN! $20 with shipping? Who can complain???!!!

Summary: Chicago:Live By Request
Review: I love Chicago and was very pleased with the song selection on this DVD but was very surprised that more people didn't complain about the voice track which was mixed considerably lower than the instruments (which were done well). I even bought a second copy thinking I might just had gotten a bad copy but the 2nd copy played the same as the first with a poorly mixed voice track. I have a Sony Dream System which plays all other music DVDs just fine(I have nearly a hundred). If anyone owns this DVD and experienced this problem, please come forward and add your review.

Summary: Awesome Performance!
Review: I purchased this DVD for my husband for Christmas and he has been playing it over and over ever since. "Live by Request"is always a quality production in my opinion, and Chicago sounded better than ever for this performance. It was great to walk down memory lane with all those awesome tunes, and the newer band members did not disappoint. This is a must have for all Chicago fans 'cause the music is still hot!!!
