Summary: Live at Roseland DVD
Review: Actually Ronnie was 62 when this was recorded. It was a great show and no doubt the DVD will reveal to a new generation just how amazing he is. That and the fact it was quite possibly the last time we'll see the great Doug Aldrich with Dio.

Summary: Rock & Roll, Rock & Roll
Review: After seeing Dio live in Ruisrock, Turku, I decided to buy this where he's in New York and he was as good as there. This live is recorded while tour with his latest album, Killing the Dragon. There's three songs from it, Killing the Dragon", "Push" and "Rock & Roll". Well, the new songs are all good, especially "Rock And Roll" is better than studio version.

There also Rainbow songs, "Man on the Silver Mountain" and "Long Live Rock'n Roll" which are very good performances.
Black Sabbath songs "Heaven And Hell" and "Children of the Sea" are also well done. Especailly "Children of the Sea" which is mixed with "Egypt" from Dio album the Last in Line. It's good work.

Magica songs "Fever Dreams" and "Lord of the Last Day" are also good, not so good as the newest ones but good still.

There's very much Holy Diver and Last in Line songs and they all are good. Dio is over 60 but he sings like he would be 25.

There's also an interview and "Push" video. The video is very funny, see it!!!

Standout tracks: Rock And Roll, Killing the Dragon, Rainbow in the Dark, Don't Talk to Strangers, The Last in Line

Summary: Dio Is The Man.
Review: All I can say is that this is an amazing concert. I must admit that i have not listened to much music from Dio's Solo career, i'd heard a few songs but more than anything else I've mostly heard Dio as a frontman for my #1 Favorite band, Black Sabbath. this DVD was given to me by somebody and i have to say that it started something for me. I now have loads of Dio Cd's on my list of things to buy. The Man has not lost anything over the years, in my own opinion his voice has gotten Stronger. The DVD covers lots of material with quite a few songs from Dio's most recent CD, Killing The Dragon. Although I've heard plenty of Dio in Black Sabbath, I am a beginning fan of Dio's Solo career and this is a great way to start. I recomend this to any up and coming Dio fans as well as loyal 20+ year fans and such. I'll even go and say that i recomend this for Metal fans who haven't heard of Dio (if there is such a thing) as it is a very solid Heavy Metal concert.

Summary: DIO's still got it!
Review: And he still knows how to please. Although I was having soundrops on my system in 5.1, I switched to DTS and it sounded great! I noticed DIO didn't hit the higher ranged notes as he did on the albums, but that's to be expected. He did a creative job of finding the lower notes that fit. It's great that he only threw in a couple of the newer songs on, as the vintage stuff will always be the real crowd pleasers. I recommend this one for all DIO fans. WE ROCK!

Summary: Hazy Dio Rocks
Review: Bring the boys over, kick the wife out,and crank up the stereo! This concert really brought back some cloudy memories of youth.I don't really get caught up in quality of picture issues, since performance and sound are paramount for my tastes, but someone had to work really hard at making the picture this lousy.Simply awful.I just want to see, semi-clearly,the phenomenal talent that is performing. The dvd is still a great buy,for a killer performance and a powerful DTS soundtrack. It's great to see so many classic bands using today's digital sound technology to produce great concert experiences from today and yesterday.

Summary: Not bad for a 62 year old...
Review: Dio is one of my favorites singer, probably the second after David Coverdale. He's done a very good job in this concert, and we must not forget he was 62 or so... He does a good job, but his voice sounds rusty sometimes, well compared to Dio 20 years ago... He's still much better than most of the singers 40 years younger :)))

The audio quality is excellent, but the video quality is not professional. I just wonder why they released it the way it is.

The guitar player is excellent.

Summary: Awesome sound, distracting production
Review: First let me say that Doug Aldrich nails every guitar solo from the early Dio years. I haven't seen anyone else do that. Simon Wright doesn't quite live up to Vinny Appice, but not even Vinny can do that anymore.
I love the set list and Ronnie doesn't freelance with the lyrics too much.

But if you are one of those people who gets a headache on car trips or playing video games, this video will drive you nuts. Other reviewers have outlined all the inexplicable changes in camera angles and effects. Why on earth would you use an effect that drops frames when showing a guitar solo?

Once you get past that in the first viewing, it's a great DVD.

Summary: Ageless rocker . . .
Review: His work with Rainbow, Black Sabbath, and as a solo artist with his band Dio, has made Ronnie James Dio one of heavy metal's most recognizable and beloved voices. For 30 years, Dio has been enchanting audiences with his unique brand of mystical metal.

Captured on video is a 2002 performance at NYC's Roseland Ballroom. Dio's voice sounds as good as ever. For a man over 60, he truly looks to be in remarkable physical condition, prancing about onstage in black bellbottoms, displaying his trademark hand gestures. In support of Killing the Dragon, the band includes bass player Jimmy Bain, guitarist Doug Aldrich, keyboard player Scott Warren and drummer Simon Wright.

The presentation of the performance is straightforward and without many technical frills. Absent are multi screen views and excessive cuts. Views of the stage are mostly unobstructed, though the picture quality may not be the greatest at times. For sound, you can choose between stereo, Dolby 5.1 and DTS.

The set list includes songs that span the length of Dio's distinguished career. Though favoring his early solo works, there is a bit of Rainbow, with a dash of Sabbath. The newer songs Push, Rock and Roll and Killing the Dragon fit in well with classics like Stand Up and Shout, Don't Talk to Strangers and Holy Diver. Guitarist Doug Aldrich certainly deserves high praise. Playing with flair and swagger, he takes on the daunting task of incorporating the licks and tricks of players like Tommy Iommi, Ritchie Blackmore, Craig Goldy and Vivian Campbell into his own style. Sandwiched in between the Rainbow classics, Man on the Silver Mountain, and Long Live Rock and Roll is Aldrich's diverse near nine minute guitar solo. Restricted to mostly playing the music of others, this is the guitarist's opportunity to really cut loose. Aldrich also shines during a smoldering performance of Heaven and Hell, that is remarkably close to Sabbath's original.

The arrangement of the show does have some rough spots. Just three songs into the show, a Simon Wright drum solo seems inappropriate. Despite a solid effort by Aldrich, the combo number Egypt/Children of the Sea doesn't quite mesh. And some of the newer songs just aren't in the same class as Dio's earlier material. The plodding Lord of the Last Day drags things down to a crawl, and Fever Dreams raises the energy only slightly. These are however minor matters, as there can be no complaints about the band's classic encore numbers, The Last in Line, Rainbow in the Dark, and a rousing version of We Rock.

There are some interesting bonus materials. In a too brief interview, the articulate Dio covers some fascinating subject matter. A more extended interview with one of metal's bona fide icons would have been truly enlightening. A short video entitled Behind the Scenes, features events involving the band and crew, shot by Wendy Dio, wife of "Ronald". A photo gallery displays shots of the band and crew with their families and the fans. Last is the very creative and cool video for Push, that features an appearance by School of Rock's, Jack Black. This energetic production shows that there is, believe it or not, a "fun" side to Ronnie Dio.

Evil or Divine captures the essence of a Dio performance, and is recommended without reservations to fans of heavy metal. Ronnie James Dio is an icon, and a true master at his craft, and shows no signs of slowing down. Guitarist Aldrich has since left the group, as has long time bass player Jimmy Bain, so this concert also serves as a record of this particular lineup of the band.

Summary: DIO Rocks
Review: I bought this together with the cd DIO ANTHOLOGY: STAND UP AND SHOUT.
Both I will say are Brilliant. The one thing that Dio can be said to be is diverse. The Evil or Divine DVD contains some great material.Absolutely great in Surround Sound. I can't say enough good things about this DVD except that when a singer can have a Late 1977 Concert in Munich recorded, and in a Show over 20 years later, come up with the goods in the same quality voice, the man has the gift.
Totally Awesome DVD, worth the price.
The Visual Quality concerns are not enough in my opinion to warrant a dismissal of this DVD as a product.
However, if you are that Picky, it plays well in the background as music, and if only for that reason, buy it... the Man is the Voice of Hard Rock.
