Summary: A souvenir to remember the Elevation Tour...
Review: By the end of the Elevation Tour I will have seen U2 three times in concert and the one thing I have always wanted is something to remember the shows by. I'm not talking about a t-shirt, but something that see/hear and remember how magical it was to be there for that one night on the tour. Well this 2-dvd set fully accomplishes that. There is no way to substitute a live concert experience with a home theater one, but for those who want to get a fix while the boys are back in the studio or for those who were not fortunate enough to make the show this is the next best thing. Granted there are tons of songs that they didn't play in Boston or there are those that didn't make the cut for the dvd, but that doesn't not make this any less of an enjoyable dvd. I would have loved to see the original version of Sweetest Thing or even Refugee on this set, but I forgot all about that when I was blowing my ear drums out listening to I will Follow, Streets, and Bad. I am going to see the boys again next week in Atlanta and this just got me completely pumped up to see them. So for anyone that has second thoughts about this get to a Best Buy, get an advanced copy, go home and remember again why U2 is one of the greatest bands.

Summary: I am getting this DVD when it comes out, and you should too.
Review: Now, first I want to start off by saying that I believe "One" will indeed be on this DVD. That night, "One" and "Wake Up Dead Man" were intertwined as one song. However, as it so states on the U2 website, I'm assuming the majority of the song or at least part of it was "Wake Up Dead Man" so thats how they listed it. However, I noticed at u2tours.com that "One" was indeed included in the setlist in some shape or another. This is great, as this is my favorite song. Doing research before you attempt to write a preview always helps. Anyway, I am positive this will be a great DVD "With or Without" "One" (thats sly), and will write a full review as soon as I get it.

Summary: All the confusion
Review: There seems to be a lot of confusion over the set list. The official set list the night this show was recorded included One, Mysterious Ways, and Pride. These three songs do not appear on the DVD track listings. The reason why people may be upset is the advertisments state the DVD is the "full show," which it is clearly not. This is not the end of the world, but it is a shame!

Summary: Great concert by a great band
Review: This is the first full-length concert film that U2 has ever released ("Under A Blood Red Sky" is severely edited), and they did right by choosing one of their best shows of the Elevation 2001 Tour. The Boston U2 fans are among the best, and it shows here. While the set list is not a collection of their greatest hits ("Gone", "New York", and "Wake Up Dead Man" are weak tunes), one is nonetheless astonished at the sheer number of classic songs the band manages to squeeze in to the show. Highlights include the opening number "Elevation", played with the house lights still up, and "Where the Streets Have No Name", with the crowd at its most rapturous. Most entertaining is Bono's interaction with fans as he prowls the heart-shaped ramp that juts out from the stage. This is a well-filmed, high-quality concert DVD which includes an interesting documentary showing the concert from different points of view. A must for all U2 fans.

Summary: No PRIDE, No PROBLEM
Review: On how many Live shows do we need to hear the same tunes re-played over and over? This DVD is great because it leaves off tunes like PRIDE and even ONE. These have appeared many times previously (though not on DVD) and PRIDE particularly has never been a song played well live. Relish in all the new tunes played, and rejoice in the fact that nothing from POP should appear. (There worst outing thus far.) The only real criticism should come from the fact that not more was played from Unfrogettable Fire and Achtung Baby (arguably their finest momemts to date.)I would also leave off tunes like I Will Follow, in hopes of hearing other classics like Gloria or Electric Co. It seems every tour features the same "Classics" which usually include the above or New Years Day. Could stand for some variation there!! U2 could learn a thing or two from Bruce Springsteen who mixes it up every single night, so much that you never know what to expect. They could also play a bit longer. Bands with thier extensive songlists should. Anyway, enough hoping... either way this disc promises to be a great show from a great town. Keep the setlist the way it is. All others go back and revisit Rattle & Hum!

Summary: U2 - Still the best!
Review: This was the show that was broadcast over the web about a month ago, and it was actually shown on the TV here in Japan - lucky me! So I have actually watched this concert already, and I can testify to the quality of the filming and the sound. If you have watched any of U2's previous concert video releases, this one is pretty solid. Rattle and Hum was a little too over the top, and U2 live in Mexico was good, but PopMart didn't translate to video very well. This DVD will probably be the best U2 video experience - so regardless of the set-list, it is worth purchasing. Having seen U2 four times, the Elevation tour was by far the best, and most fans will appreciate hearing songs that have not been heard live since the ZooTV tour. For example, seeing U2 play a version of The Fly is definantly worth the purchase price alone. And I don't know about you, but U2 have not varied their treatment of classic songs very much, so I am not going to fret about the absence of 'Pride'. This concert was filmed post-9/11 - so there is a sorbering electricity about the band and the audience that you can pick up just by watching the concert. Any fan of U2 would be ill-advised to pass up on this DVD.

Review: 'Elevation 2001- Live From Boston' was shot on June 6th at the Boston Fleet Centre with 20 cameras under director Hamish Hamilton. The quality and content of the release is set to create a landmark in the history of music DVDs. Disc 1 contains the 1 hour 47 minute full show featuring classics such as Beautiful Day, Sunday Bloody Sunday, Where The Streets Have No Name and With Or Without You. Disc 2 contains Another Perspective - the full show again but this time with an 'alternate camera' feature in which viewers can compare and contrast the view from the 'Bono cam', the 'fan cam' or the 'Director cam'. This second disc also features 'Road Movie' - a 5 minute time lapse sequence showing the staging of a rock and roll concert from empty arena to a full arena and back to an empty arena again. And there are also three bonus tracks including Beautiful Day (live from the Clarence Hotel, Dublin September 2000) and Elevation (live from Miami, opening night of the Elevation Tour, March 2001)

Summary: Good no matter what, but..........
Review: I've ordered, but haven't watched this DVD yet. I'm sure it will be great, any and all U2 is always great. I'm very anxious to check out the enhanced DVD features too.
HOWEVER, I have to echo what some others have already said about the set list of this concert/DVD. How can "One", "Pride", "Angel of Harlem", "Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For" and other great tunes not be included? I've scanned the set lists of other U2 shows from their 1st, 2nd and 3rd legs of their world tour, and there are many better sets out there.
Also, I was at the NY & NJ shows in October, and I noticed that there were NO songs from the POP album performed at all, and Achtung Baby got short shrift ("Until the End" and "One" doesn't do justice to U2's best album IMHO). I wish U2 would recognize that some songs are better live than others and perform them more consistently. Songs like: "Trying to Throw Your Arms", "The Fly", "Staring at the Sun", "Even Better than the real thing", "Running to Stand Still." My 2-cents.

Summary: Set List
Review: I am surprised by many of the U2 fans who reviewed this DVD complaining about songs cut out of the concert. U2s set list changes night to night, some songs get added, some left off. If you are curious about what was played on a given night at a given concert just go to U2.com and they list the set list from each night. I love "one" as much as the next fan, but they simply did not play it at many concerts this tour.

Summary: Has anyone seen the darn thing yet?
Review: You can gripe all you want about songs not being on the DVD, complain that their Boston shows weren't all that great, or whatever. The important thing is if it captures the experience of a U2 concert. I don't care how terrific the footage is, how neat the special features are,how great your home stereo is; if you've seen Bono and the boys LIVE (not pay per view!), than you will be dissapointed by ANY DVD. Ok, so there are those of you who haven't been, and I would figure you might enjoy it, but don't listen to any review of a product that hasn't been released yet!
