Summary: James is James, what more can I say...
Review: This video is almost as good as being there. The production quality and sound are excellent for this media. This is a welcome addition to my collection.

Summary: A Must Have for JT fans
Review: This is an item that I watch over and over again. Listening to the timeless classics and new favorites can make any night complete. I wish JT was as animated as he was in the concert I saw in Salem, Or. He maybe a little reserved but his vocals are solid and the band sounds great.

Summary: This DVD is the reason you own a DVD player.
Review: The picture and sound quality are unbelievable. It's no wonder this production won a Grammy. Usually music in Dolby 5.1 surround sound gets jumbled. Not here. In fact I found it hard to listen to in only two channel. It's true that J.T. doesn't play some of his big hits, Carolina On My Mind, for instance. But, it's refreshing to here him and his band on some new tunes from Hour Glass and some less often played songs as well. I highly recommend it.

Summary: This DVD is a visual & musical delight
Review: Upon viewing this video, I was pleasantly surprised by the excellent video quality and TV production. I looks like it was directed by someone who understands how to put together a music concert and keeps the crowd cut-aways to a minimum. The lighting, videography, and production values are among the best I have observed. There is only one bad "cut away" edit (the shot did not match the current action). My son spoted it, I missed it. I won't tell what it is, if you can't see it, it's not worth calling it to attention.

Summary: Classic vocals - Good performances
Review: I saw James a few months later in Dallas on this same tour. The DVD is an excellent buy! I love his music and the quality of the DVD is tremendous. I will say that I enjoyed his PBS special done in the late 80's or early 90's? from Boston much better. But if you are a die hard James Taylor fan, you have to have this one. It even includes interviews with James, and a couple of really good music videos as a bonus...

Summary: Beware of the closed captioning!
Review: It's delightful to finally have a James Taylor release on DVD. The technical sound and video quality of this performance is superb.

The staging, however, is mildly disappointing, and I feel the production never quite captures the special mood of a live performance involving JT.

My biggest complaint concerns the closed captioning. I thought it would be nice to watch the lyrics on screen during the performance, but whoever captioned the production is obviously unfamiliar with James Taylor's songs. In many cases, the lyrics are just plain wrong (and sometimes misspelled).

Bottom line: The Beacon Theatre DVD is fine while we wait for a more elaborate production from this outstanding musician.

Summary: Close..but no Frozen Man
Review: I was actually at this concert at the Beacon Theatre in Manhattan. I LOVE James Taylor..but I was rather disappointed with the show. It was a show that was obviously set up for TV...the sound in the theatre was less than pleasing...probably due to the fact that to maintain optimal sound quality for the TV, they had to keep the main volume down, so as not to reverberate and muck up THEIR sound. I could actually hear the stage volume of the drums..a no no in concert sound. Also, for those of you who have had the pleasure of seeing JT live, you would know that he is fairly animated character and is naturally a pretty funny guy...well...not on this evening...he was quite reserved and...well...boring...as was the rest of the band. Later when the recording had stopped, he played some more tunes and began to let his shoulders down and enjoy the crowd. You will find the song selection to be a bit off as well...some of his greatest songs are not included in this show. Thats about all I guess...You may see me on the video in the crowd..I am the guy who is turning around to punch the idiot behind me who sang along with JT on every song approximately twice as loud as JT himself....JUST LISTEN YOU IDIOT..ITS NOT A SPICE GIRL SHOW !!! Regards END

Summary: If There Was A Show In Heaven...
Review: ...It would probably sound like this. "James Taylor Live at The Beacon Theatre": This DVD is a true delight. Over twenty classic songs delivered by a voice that has never sounded so good. The atmosphere is incredible, and only a true musician like James Taylor can create this kind of ambience, derived from his songs and stories alike. One gets the feeling that many of his "ex-hippie" fans are part of the audience, as strong and as loyal as ever, which really adds to the pleasure. Unlike most, there is absolutely nothing pretentious about James Taylor and his show. This is as real as it gets, and James Taylors hearty personality shines through continuously. It's an evening of story through song that is endlessly captivating. "Mexico" and surprises such as a superb version of "Everyday". As an eighteen year old, Im proud to realise that its from showmen like this and the musicians that accompany, that I can hear and see timeless music with value and heart. Sadly, I had to take away one star because "Carolina In My Mind" and "Sweet Baby James" are two songs that are shamefully absent from this title - why?

Summary: Pull Over has Nothing on the Beacon Theatre
Review: In my opinion, James Taylor's Beacon Theatre is one of the best performences I've ever seen. It is practically flawless. Each tune is tight, thoughtful, artistic, sensitive, and frankly, some of the best I've ever seen out of Taylor. One song, in particular, brought a tightness to my throat and tears nearly running down my cheeks. (And I've heard it many times before). It is the vocal, guitar, cello rendition of Fire and Rain which earned its way into my heart as my favorite overall song on the DVD. Exquisite comes to mind. Please do your self a favor and purchase this for your home collection. If you're a Taylor fan, like me, you'll be glad you did.
