Summary: Glad to see Duran Duran videos finally on DVD
Review: But to be honest this release feels rushed IE it doesn't have all the videos and when I saw the videos some of them looked really clean and crisp while others did not. At first I was a little confused by the menu set up but after a while you get used to it. I have unlocked all the hidden extras on disc 1 at least as that had the most hidden goodies (I confess I cheated and did a web search) The extras are not too bad there is the long version of Girls on FIlm with different ending as well as a short censored version. the other Union of the snake was good There is also the long Arena version of Wild Boys and 4 different versions of New Moon On Monday my favorite had to be the 17 minute movie version. The Short day in the life featurette was cool. Continuing the disc 1 hidden extras there are a few short interviews with the band listen to them discuss the Seven and the ragged Tiger album and also check out John and Andy talking about the A View To A Kill video (a fave of mine at least.) I must stress I have NOT had a chance to look at disc 2 yet as I spent most of the night checking out the first disc. Overall I believe this to be a solid video collection and while I'm sure they will eventually re-release it again soon with everything I am quite happy to add this to my collection for now. I'd rather have some Duran Diran on dvd then none at all. 4 and a half out of 5

Summary: I love Duran Duran!!
Review: This is the best music DVD you could ever possibly own. It has it all: the raunchy version of "Girls on Film," "The Reflex," "Hungry Like the Wolf" and 50,000 versions of "New Moon on Monday!" At last you'll get to see Simon LeBon, Nick Rhodes (why does he wear so much makeup?), John Taylor, Roger Taylor, and Andy Taylor on your DVD. I watch this DVD EVERY SINGLE MORNING while eating Froot Loops for breakfast in bed before I go to work. Forget Led Zeppelin, the Eagles, Nirvana and the Beatles: Duran Duran are the greatest, best, and MOST influential group of ALL TIME. These new bands should watch this DVD to see how it's DONE. It's just fabulous!!

Summary: Terrific content, but the DVD design isn't so great.
Review: Duran Duran was a pioneering band in the realm of music video, and this collection shows why. What Duran Duran has that fellow MTV luminaries Michael Jackson and Madonna don't have are an aura of sheer decadence, an eye for perversity, and a very black sense of humour.

"Girls on Film" is obviously a bonkers video, dated in its cinematography and recording, but the outrageous visual gags (half-naked co-ed sumo match, anyone?) remain shockingly funny. If you overlook the cheesy camera icon floating around in "A View to a Kill", what you got is an ingenious, tongue-in-cheek melding of the James Bond film with MTV footage of the Duranies playing special agents of all colours. This is one of a very few music videos which dare treat their source songs as background soundtrack (Paula Abdul's "Rush Rush" and Michael Jackson's "Smooth Criminal" come close), and it's a gutsy move unlikely to happen today. Watch for a hilarious final gag after the song is over. "Ordinary World" is my favourite Duran Duran song and while the visuals are sumptuous, the altered mix of the song is vastly inferior to the album version. One of those unnecessary, often label-mandated remixes. The best clip here for me is "Come Undone", where cross-dressing, underwater sado-masochism, marine creatures and an evil-sounding, almost ritualistic song create a unique atmosphere straddling the line between beautiful and ugly. It's this dangerous edge which makes these videos stand out, and this DVD is a great, timely release.

I do have one grudge: This DVD contains one of the most irritating menu designs I've seen. The design company went to ball with their motion effects and transitions, but by the third time I accessed these menus, these visuals have lost their interest and merely serve to hinder my navigation of the materials herein. I'd much rather they'd designed the menus the way Michael Jackson's "HIStory Vol. 2" had been, jumping straight to track listings, allowing for smooth and uncumbersome exploration of the contents.

Still, this body of work was an essential part of the coming of age of music video, and should be essential viewing for all modern music-video directors who think one camera pointing dead in the performer's face, a dozen costume changes and 30 by-the-book jump cuts are what make music videos work.

Summary: May not be complete, but good enough.
Review: Well, I've read the other reviews (which I always do when I find a product I'm interested in) and here's my take on this item. A lot of people are disappointed that there are many videos missing from the anthology, but that is rather common where compilations are concerned. There have been many anthologies and greatest hits albums that are missing at least a few things, if not many, that the fans would want. At least this DVD set has all of their most popular videos on it. It's better than having none of their videos on DVD.

For those of you who would like their following videos on DVD:

Careless Memories
Nightboat
My Own Way
Lonely In Your Nightmare

Go on ebay and get their official DVD from Asia titled "First 11 Videos". It is a reissue only produced in the orient (can't remember which country exactly). I got mine this week, and although the quality is not perfect, it is much better than the original video. And, it's an official (region 0) DVD.

Anyway, it is a shame that the "Greatest DVD" couldn't at least have a complete videography list of every video they did. It could have been a good reference tool. As far as I can recall, the videos that are missing are (in no particular order):

Careless Memories
Nightboat
Lonely In Your Nightmare
My Own Way
Meet El Presidente
Violence Of Summer (heard rumours that this is a hidden feature)
Breath After Breath
Too Much Information
Perfect Day
Lay Lady Lay
White Lines
Someone Else, Not Me
Out Of My Mind
Femme Fatale
Do You Believe In Shame?

...And I'm sure there are several that I'm forgetting, but you get the idea.

Anyway, overall I will be happy with this set. Unfortunately, I won't be able to open it until Christmas, so I'll have to rely on your opinions until then.

Summary: Cheapest...don't buy this dvd!
Review: This is a very incomplete videography. Some gems are missing: "Nightboat", "Careless Memories","Lonely In Your Nightmare", "My Own Way", etc. Why bother to release a product that is obviously "less that we expected". Very bad marketing or a cheap attempt to re-release later with all the videos, so that we'll have to buy it twice. The first three records were remastered lately with no extra singles at all and now we have this dvd that could have had everything instead of giving us 25 versions of "New Moon on Monday". Really weird!

Why bother to put "hidden" videos when it is written on the sleeve. It is just annoying not to have them on a regular menu.

EMI should have take example on the "Best of Bowie" dvd which is a good example of a well-done product that respect the fans.

Summary: FINALLY!!!!!
Review: this dvd is getting 5 stars because in this day and age with todays music scene being crap, i am getting more on this dvd than i could ask for. it took emi long enough to put this out, considering duran are the pioneers of music videos. As a long time fan i have the video albums with their eaqrly minor hits, so the fact that thery're not all here is ok. my only dissapointment with this collection is that it doesn't include two of my favorite videos from duran: lonely in your nightmare and do you beleive in shame?- which is duran's most underated single and impossible to see video. also, the hidden tracks are way to hard to get to. i dont even thing i found them all yet. i remember the good old days when me and my fellow duranies would be glued to mtv to see the latest duran video to see what color nick rhodes hair would be this time. and now its all here in one place. just watching this dvd puts a smile on my face and warms my heart thinking about a time which I was lucky enough to be a part of. the go0d old 80's.buy this dvd and enjoy these videos from one of the best bands ever.it is well worth the money.

Summary: Buy it NOW!
Review: Like a lot of Duran Duran fans, I've been waiting for this collection for a long time! I remember waiting with anticipation to see a Duran Duran video on MTV, and they are as fantastic today as they were then. Lush scenery, amazing imagery, creative storylines - these videos outshone those of any other artist in the 80s, and still stand as among the best ever shot. The "video remix" called "Burning the Ground" is amazing. The hidden features are a lot of fun, too - alternate versions of videos, interviews, commercials. You can find all of the hidden features by going to the website, www.duranduran.com, and checking the FAQ. LOVE IT! My only complaint would be that I wish there were more - I would have loved it if this compilation included the videos for Careless Memories, Night Boat, and My Own Way, which were not released as singles in the US.

Summary: I am excited they finally put this out
Review: I know a lot of people may say that they are missing alot but that might be because you do not know about all the hidden features of this DVD. There are for example 4 - yes 4 - versions of New Moon on Monday. You just need to know how to access them. How you may ask...well go to http://www.duranduran.com and go to the ASK KATY section. If you can't find it there go into the message boards and search for topics regarding the Greatest DVD.

The only thing I don't like is the white on white lettering. Also finding all these hidden features is time consuming but well worth the patience. ENJOY - I know I will!

Summary: Great collection! About time ...
Review: I was a Duranie as a teenager in the 80s and have followed the band since then. Frankly, I am blown away by the criticism posted by others here. Unless you're a die-hard fan, you're not going to shy away from this collection because it doesn't include some lesser-known videos/songs. Most people buying this want to have the favorites they remember from junior high years, I think.

It had to be a very difficult task narrowing down Duran Duran's videos into one collection. However, I think they did a great job selecting the most popular videos and many that haven't seen airtime in decades (When was the last time Union of the Snake was on any of the MTV/VH1 channels?).
