Summary: Incredibly Hypnotizing
Review: I just finished watching the DVD release on a large screen TV/stereo and I am in awe. The power that this film evokes is truelly a feat and a gift to us all. In no time I was standing and dancing along with this incredible performance. Get it.

Summary: AWESOME
Review: I bought this disk in the early 80's and it had only 9 songs- THen I bought the re-release with most of the other songs, but in no way could i be prepared for this DVD. Listening to the cd, there is no way you can see the way the whole stage is built up around each song. From Byrne walking out alone witha boom box to the massive stage that is finally built, the concert just keeps your attention throughout. I AM IN AWE! and can really appreciate the the talking heads more. THe only misfire is not including the bonus tracks in the show but making you go throuh the menu to play them. BUT WOW, what a show. Still though my favorite track here is HEAVEN

Summary: Is there any band as good as the Talking Heads today? Nope
Review: And this DVD proves it. If you kind of like the band, buy the DVD and you'll fall in love with their music. If you have a surround system, check out how Chris Frantz's cymbols correspond to the right and left channels on the third song. Check out the new remix. It will blow your surround system away. I too noticed the artifacts from the original print but heck you can't have everything

Summary: What DVD Was Made For
Review: Okay, so you already know that Stop Making Sense is a great movie, or you probably wouldn't be here reading this. But if you are thinking of buying it on VHS, stop! If you don't have a DVD player, let go of the past and buy one so you can watch this the way it was meant to be watched! Too many DVDs don't utilize the vast amount of space availible in disk format. Stop Making Sense is not one of these inferior DVDs. You can watch the movie with band commentary, compare Byrne's original storyboard to the film, and see that delightful little gem David Byrne Interviews. . .David Byrne. Oh, that cracks me up. But I am about to let you in on a little secret about this DVD that you won't find in any other review. By far the greatest extra feature on this DVD is a trailer for another DVD, a cheap Jamaican film called Dancehall Queen. You can find it under the Special Features menu. Then go to Hyperactive, and then to DVD Trailers. If you can form any sort of narrative from this wacky trailer, I'll be a monkey's uncle. But it's great, I love it! So much better than boiled boot water! Just watch it.

Summary: B.M.E - Best Movie Ever
Review: The Talking Heads are commercial geniuses! I love the movie and have seen it about 100 times. It is even better digitized...My only wish is that they would reunite on go on tour!

Summary: Almost there...
Review: This is undoubtedly the Talking Heads at both their creative and commercial peaks. 'Speaking In Tongues'was their best album to date, and the live performances captured here imbue the music with a sense of unrestrained fun that was only hinted at on record.

The sound quality of the DVD edition is excellent (especially the bass), as is the picture quality (colors are crisp and the contrast is excellent) - plus it's nice to finally have an edition of the video presented in widescreen.

There's some interesting stuff among the extras, especially the storyboards (which can be viewed either alone, with notes, or in split screen with stills from the completed film). The David Byrne 'self-interview' is artful in its awkwardness, with one David Byrne in a number of different costumes interviewing a David Byrne wearing the big suit. There's a funky montage that works slightly better than the theatrical trailer that is also included; otherwise, they're almost interchangeable.

My only complaint with this re-mastered edition is that the three songs (Cities, Big Business, and I Zimbra) that were included in the original video release have been relegated to bonus tracks, rather than integrated into the film. Not only that, but they are presented in fullscreen/pan & scan format rather than in the widescreen format of the film, and in little more than a straight transfer. The improvements in image and sound quality of the film proper are sadly lacking here. The colors and contrast are dull in comparison, as is the quality of the soundtrack.

Well worth repeated viewings. Fix up them bonus tracks, and you've got a 5-star presentation...

Summary: Five minutes of advertising precede this outstanding video
Review: Get ready for five minutes of lame advertising at the beginning of this tape. Except for the movie trailer for Stop Making Sense, which immediately precedes the movie, the remaining advertising is totally unrelated to David Byrne, the Talking Heads or alternative music.

An example of this outrageous imposition upon customers is advertising for a concert video of the McGarrigle sisters with the Wainwright family. This isn't the worst of it! I would not have purchased the video, had I known David Byrne's artistry would be marred with this commercial dross.

What is next, five minutes of audio advertising on every CD I purchase? Since the integerity of the work obiously has no meaning to the people that put this together, I am surprized they didn't cut the film up into segments and intersperse commercials between the songs!

If you make it through the commercials to what you paid for, you will see really inventive music-making and interesting staging. I am old enough to remember when this tour took place and could kick myself for not attending one of the live shows.

Summary: A new standard for DVDs
Review: A great performance by a great band made even better through the DVD format. This is the way a DVD SHOULD be. Phenomenal sound quality (choose from 2 different 5.1 mixes or a 2-channel stereo mix, plus a fourth track of fascinating commentary). Even the menus are extraordinary!

Summary: Justification for DVD
Review: This must be the reason why dvd was created. Excellent visuals, fantastic audio, and cool extras. Avoid the tragically awful cd of the soundrack and get the dvd instead. Highlights include the Byrne on Byrne interview, the bonus "Big Business/I Zimbra" and having the whole movie in digital quality. If the original release of this movie has any place in your memories, you should own this dvd.

Summary: Stop Making Sense Certainly MAKES SENSE!
Review: Stop Making Sense is one of the best movies ever created by a band. It shows the hard work of this group and they have definetly come a long way!
