Summary: Ygnwie who??
Review: This has got to be one of the best GUITAR dvds I have ever seen!

I am a huge Steve Vai fan, a big Satriani fan, and have listened to Yngwie since his Steeler days! The all sound GREAT on the dvd, and they all play their A$$E$$ off!!!!!!!!!!

The Steve Vai section will BLOW YOU AWAY, bar none one of the coolest guitar solos ever! And Yngwie J Friggin Malmsteen has still got it after all these years! Still a TRUE composer and just a shred guru!! Joe is just way cool and sounds great with his new amps...and the G3 jam at the end??? Hendix would have been PROUD...the ONLY complaint I have, is during the G3 jam, Vai needs to be TURNED UP, can barely hear him, and that's why I didn't give this DVD a 5 start rating!

This is a MUST HAVE if you are a musician, a guitar hero fan, or just LOVE any of the three guitar GODZ on this DVD! Buy this NOW!

Summary: kareoki with guitar
Review: Been a big fan for years but this is getting old. The more stuff that is released the more it reminds me of American Idol with guitar. Heres some generic backgroud music now jam along. Its kareoki!
The guitar work has always been brilliant but the imagination behind the rest of the song structures has no innovation. They should just program the rest of the instruments! To me this is turning into showboating.

Summary: Yngwie at his best.
Review: First of all, I bought this DVD because of Yngwie. You may like him or hate him,but he's one of the greatest. For me he still sounds fresh, like in his early days. His playing is neither boring, nor outdated. For me he's just an innovator,a pre-Eddie Van Halen player, opposite Vai(I still consider Vai an Eddie wannabe) and Satriani.None of the formers has contributed anything to guitar playing, but breaking the speed of light playing that Eddie left years ago.Would they ever invite Eddie Van Halen to a G3 tour?Nope!!!He's second to none, they would never expose themselves to such a thing.Anyway, this G3 DVD is very amusing to watch to, well produced, with a good playlist and wonderful sound. It's also quite interesting to see this three guitar players at the end of the DVD jamming together, with such a good result. If you are mad about Rock and guitar playing, you won't be disapointed.A must buy.

Summary: Two out of three ain't bad at this price
Review: Guitar players have their favorite guitarists, and their not so favorite guitarists. Two of my personal favorites are Satch and Vai. I personally don't dig Yngwie, but more power to you if you do.

Satch is up to his normal excellent standards on this video. To me, Joe's concerts are just outstanding MUSIC, not just for guitar crazies. His tone is definitely different with the Peavey amps. I havn't yet decided if I like his tone here less than his Marshall sound, but I definitely don't like it more. Its just different. He appears to be using XXX Peaveys instead of his upcoming JSX series here, I'm curious how close this sound is to the final JSX amps.

While a diehard Satch fan, I certainly appreciate Vai's command of the instrument. Its tough to find anyone to top Vai's technical abilities. The intereactions between the band and Vai are awesome. While I love Satch's musicianship, Vai's portion of the tape left me with my jaw dropped. The three-neck intro part of his set is worth the price of admission alone.

I'll leave others to review Yngwie's solo part. I couldn't manage to get through a single song of his set. Regarding his performance on the jam portion of the tape, it can be summed up in one word, "distracting." Yngwie seemed to come off as thinking Satch and Vai were there just to back him up, I struggeled to catch him playing rhythym. His antics on stage are a vain attempt to draw attention to himself, rather play WITH Satch and Vai. Rarely does he interact with Satch and Vai, and frequently he disappears off camera and I presume offstage. None of this comes as a surprise to Yngwie fans or detractors I'm sure.

The video overall is great, and well worth the low purchase price. Electric guitar nuts won't go wrong picking this one up.

Summary: Awesome
Review: Satch &Vai are top notch creative players.
Always progressing.I believe Vai is the best
after Hendrix...so full of ideas&emotion.
A real treat to see Tony Macapline+Billy
Sheehan on his team. The best Band line up.

The only problem is nostalgic Yngwie stuck in the
80's... hair +music &all. He looks like Fat bastard
from Austin Powers shredding now.He hasn't grown as
an axman.Playing the same music &sound as when he
was 19 doing that neo-classical runs back in 82.Vai now beats
him in speed.Yngwie lay off the booze&porter house
steaks mate.Go back to your Fire & Ice days...try
new & different sounds.Take lessons from Satch...lol!!!
Beside all that I luv this DVD.It has inspired me to record
some new stuff&experiment like Vai &Satch.

Summary: G3 is really teriffic and
Review: I really enjoy the constant changing lineup even though I prefer Eric Johnson and John Petrucci with Satch and Vai the most. Malmsteen is very one dimentional. This DVD is longer, hence more value, and more intense. Just more great guitar music and you cant go wrong here. Its hard to get better when your already great so it is more of the same in a sense but the more is wonderful!

Also you might enjoy this 5 guitar band I found, G5 Summit and their release MAXIMUM OVERDRIVE, http://www.fossilrecords.net/g5summit1.htm. I got the live solo of G5 Summit's, Wayne Edwards' and my jaw dropped. In fact all five are incredible. They are Wayne Edwards, Chris Hattingh, Jim Reindel, Mark Schuster and Adam Puchalski. I think G5 Summit Maximum Overdrive is a must have for anyone into G3.
Enjoy the G3...!!

Rock on with the new G3 its well worth the money..

Summary: Much better than the first G3 video.
Review: I didn't like the first G3 video too much (no disrespect to Eric Johnson), so I wasn't expecting much from this one. Well, after popping this one into my DVD player, I was riveted from start to finish. This was a great show! First, I'm really a Satriani fan more than a Vai or Malmsteen fan, and Satriani's tone is much better in my opinion on this DVD than on the first G3 or Live in San Francisco. Satriani is using his new Peavey amps and his live tone actually sounds good now. You can tell it from his playing, too -- he is obviously more inspired when playing. I liked this G3 better than the first and the Live in San Francisco simply because of Satriani's improved tone. Vai plays only 3 songs and he makes some really goofy faces when he plays. Anyways, he sounds good and the part where he, Tony Macalpine, Billy Sheehan, and Dave Weiner fret each others guitars and play a harmony line is very entertaining. Yngwie plays the same diminished and minor sweep arpeggios, harmonic minor scale runs, and classical licks that he's played for years, but you won't be able to take your eyes off of him because he's just so funny -- he's fat and wears leather pants, has an 80's hairstyle, and swings his guitar around every 2 minutes. I liked the jams on this DVD much better than the first, too. Rockin' in the Free World is a great song -- I'll bet Neil Young never expected to hear Yngwie playing his neoclassical shredder soloing on this song. Vai sings Little Wing, and he is a better singer than Satriani or Malmsteen. Malmsteen slurs the lyrics to Voodoo Chile -- was he drunk?! Sometimes, Malmsteen throws his guitar into the air a lot (instead of actually playing it) -- while Joe and Steve play -- Malmsteen's so funny! The extras suck on this DVD. I mean you get a lighting plot diagram!!!!!!!!!!!! What is up with that?!!!!!!!!!?????!!!????? A lighting plot diagram?!!!?!!!?!!!? WHO CARES?!!?!!!?!!?!!? Is that some kind of joke?!!?!!?!!?!??!??! I still like this DVD, though. Satch finally has a good live tone, Vai plays well, Malmsteen is a real hoot, and the jams are way better this time around. I was thoroughly entertained by this DVD and it is well worth the $12.

Summary: Longer than the first one but not as great
Review: This DVD gets an extra star for being close to 2 hours long, but I miss Eric Johnson. Yngwie is fantastic, and brings a touch of classical music to the proceedings, but he is stuck in the Big Hair Eighties, and it looks silly.

No Stu Hamm playing with Satriani this time, either.

Either I am so fond of the first G3 DVD that I'm not giving this one a fair shake, or this second one is not as musically interesting as the first one. Either way, just 4 stars.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Amazing! MUST SEE!
