Summary: Amazon Review ?
Review: Hey Amazon, are you there ? I think the usual guy you wheel out for music DVD reviews might not have been suitable for this one. Try thinking along the lines of 'musical ability' rather than 'fashion', it may make more sense to the people that are going to read the very same review page that you employ your man 'in the know' to write for...

Good reviews from the guitar players and other musicians that have scored this edition, keep practising those chops, long live Yngwie, Vai & Satch !

Summary: G3 Live in Denver
Review: Niedawno obejrza³em nowe „G3 Live in Denver" na DVD. Jakoœæ nagrania pozostawia zatem wiele do ¿yczenia. Wystarczy porównaæ jakoœæ nagrania nowego G3 do poprzedniego G3 z '97 roku czy do „Live in San Francisco" Joe Satrianiego aby zauwa¿yæ ró¿nicê. Po drugie zawodza sami muzycy. Dotyczy to g³ównie ostatniej czêœci koncertu - G3 Jam - gdzie graj¹ razem na scenie. ¯enuj¹ce wykonanie legendarnego, monumentalnego utworu Hendrixa (potem Vaughana) „Voodoo Child". Wykonanie tego utworu przez Malmsteena, to jego ca³kowite zbeszczeszczenie. Kompletny brak wyczucia do bluesa. By³a to po prostu kompromitacja. Kolejna rzecz to nowe gitary Satrianiego.
Natomiat ci którzy widzieli G3'97 i te¿ chc¹ kupiæ nowe G3 proponuje jeszcze raz je obejrzeæ a spewnoœci¹ dostarczy to wiêcej roadoœci ni¿ zakup nowego G3.

Summary: Why only 3 stars you may ask me....
Review: Alrite dudes, here we go....

I went to see G3 in Minneapolis and it rocked. Straight up 5 stars. But this DVD is worth only 3 stars....

Joe Satriani: Amazing guitarist.....BUT COME ON! He should have included songs that were not played as much in his shows and other DVD's. Joe, if you read this....why the hell did you put in Satch Boogie, the Extremist, Mystical Potato??? These very same songs were played on Live in San Francisco! I was SEVERELY DISAPPOINTED. Joe's sound was sounding like crap as well. Too much treble gave a very t hin and dirty sound that made listening hard. Starry Night was amazing but Midnight should not have been on here. There are way better of Satch that could easily have a spot on here. I am saddened by this.

Steve Vai: Ok Steve.....His set was alrite. I know you're here was a treat. But come on man, you should have played some acoustic as well to enhance your set! You just had a DVD come out and that was pretty much electric. A good addition would have been Sisters or Tender Surrender on here. Otherwise, Steve's sound was nice and rich.

Yngwie Malmsteen: Cool setlist, I have to say. But it gets really boring after a while. REALLY BORING! He shreds and shreds and shreds and shreds.....its monotonous and boring. I just forward the songs to the ultimate of them all....the Jams!

The G3 Jam: Kick ass. On Rockin in the free world Steve Vai's solo was just super super super noteworthy! I wouldnt be surprised if he wins a grammy for this performance. He really impressed me. Yngwie was ok, Joe was the worst. Also the show off guitar match between the three was kinda lame. It wasnt mind boggling. Its not too much watching Joe Satriani and Vai get into a guitar duel, leave alone Yngwie. Seeing Zakk Wylde and Dimebag get into a duel would be far more entertaining also because their personalities fit in so well.

Little wing: Yngwie needed to be muted. He was shredding during Little wing. Yo, come on! This is little wing not Cowboys from Hell! Steve Vai was again the best one from this triplet guitar duo but Joe matched in well. Not bad at all. Yngwie could have been better.

Voodoo Chile (slight return...whatever the hell that means!): Not special at all. None on the G's sounded top form. Must have been tired or something. It was good, but not remarkable at all.

The sound of the DVD: Many people had trouble hearing Joe or Yngwie during the Jams. The sound was fancied around with in this DVD. So that could be of some concern. I deduct points for the complicated sound.

Finally, This is a great DVD, but not something that will be widely remembered. It was a monumental tour without a doubt, but the DVD could hardly catch even 5% of the wonderful surprises it had to offer.

One star for each of the Guitarists. Well done. Grade B

Summary: G3 --- The best gift in the new age
Review: G3 is one of the greatest concert in the world, because it isn't just 3 great guitar player. It is put all of the guitar player in the world together, and celebrate music, celebrate guitar music. Guitar reborn in the new age, G3 lets a lot of new guitar player pick it their confidence, burning their heart of guitar again.
This DVD is the highest level in G3 life so far. I believe G3 will be upthrust the new level.
This DVD's pictures quality not as good as I think. I just can say it not bad. but it is very good for treasuring up if you are a crazy guitar player.

Summary: I was there
Review: OK, so I haven't actually seen the DVD yet, but I was at that show. First off, The Fillmore is one of my favorite venues - I've been to five shows there. I saw Jonny Lang, G3 '01, POD, and the SeeSpotRock tour. It's great for the up-in-front people, and the sit-back-with-a-drink people. Anyway, Malmsteen is such an upstager! I couldn't find anything of substance in his music. Pretty much, he was just showing off how fast he can play. He even had a poster at the merch table that read: "Ygwie Malmsteen - Guitar Legend" Which, by the way, is totally pompous. As for Steve and Joe, they were awesome. When Vai first came on with that three neck guitar (one of which is a 12 string), my jaw hit the floor. I thought I had been to the best concert in my life when I saw them in '01, but this was truly amazing. I did, however, like John Petrucci better - his drummer was phenominal! I was a little dissapointed that Stu Hamm didn't tour with them last year, he's one of my favorite musicians. For anyone looking to purchase this DVD, I can't really suggest it, since I havn't seen it, but the show was amazing.

Summary: WHAT!!!! ONLY 3 SONGS BY STEVE VAI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Review: I'm a guitar player and I love prog, fusion and instrumental guitar rock, so I thought I'd throw some money Satch's way and give this DVD a day in court.

I love you guys, but with the exception of Vai, this DVD just didn't blow my skirt up. Satch seems to be doing the same old thing and Yngwie hasn't grown as a guitarist and is still stuck in A harmonic minor. Vai is the most entertaining on the DVD. It was nice to hear him play something other than what he's done previously on DVD. And he's such a showman, which makes him even more amazing since he can play all that stuff and still run around the stage like a nut. And why only 3 songs? I realize G3 is Joe's gig but c'mon! You need more than 3 songs to properly showcase Vai's genius. If you want to see one of the better guitar virtuoso DVD's, pick up Vai's "Live At Astoria" DVD. And if you really want to see a band at the top of the game that sing, harmonize, play beautifully and improvise, check out "Meet The Flower Kings" by Sweden's prog rock greats "The Flower Kings."

All in all, you could do worse but I was still left wanting more.

Summary: Has something for everyone
Review: It doesn't matter whether you're a Satch, Vai or Yngwie fan. To me, this DVD
captures the joy and excitement of watching three musicians create their
own sounds in one great package. Come on, how often can you find a deal like this
for just under 11 bucks? The only flaw is that it should have been two CD's instead
of one!! BTW, my personal favorites in order were Vai, Satch and Yngwie. On 1996's
G3, my favorites in order were Satani, EJ, and Vai. Get both DVD's and enjoy!

Summary: my opinions and notes after watching this dvd
Review: warning- i have never seen any g3 tour live, but i am very familiar with the names of these axmen. I have never actually listened to any of these musicians work tho. i was surfing the web one day and i ran across a live clip of via goin off on a 3 neck guitar. after 2 minutes of watching it i ordered it from amazon. i was really hyped. i listen to/play mostly melodic death metal style music and there are many very talanted guitarists in that genare, but i was blown away by what i saw steve via play. i got the dvd and heres what i think...
well satch wasnt my style and i really wasnt diggin him. i actually own a js1000 guitar, and after watching this i want to sell it. i think they shoulda put a capo on his highest fret so all he could play is harmonics and use the wammy bar cause thats the coolest thing i think he did. and his band was a buncha old dudes. im most definatly not feelin satches outfit, but he does have the best head-bob while soloing. hes good, but dosent stand out in this dvd to me.
via- ok here is the reason for my purchase. his first performance is extraordinarily superlative, untill the band comes in and he sings. I must say that there should of been no vocal mikes on the stage cause it kinda ruined it for me whenever anyone tried to sing. the camera sumtimes pans to drunk people tryin to play air guitar, and they obviously dont know the music cause they keep going when the music stops. theres a point when all 4 guys on stage start to fret eachothers guitars. at first it made me mad, but after a second it was so cheesy i had to love it. via for sure has the best guitar tone, and even better faces while string bending. he also has the best tapping, but i dont like any of his rythem guitar parts. sorry steve, capo on the 9th fret for you.
\m/ yngwie \m/ - well this dude is the master of sweeps, and i love his classical style. but unfortunatly his muddy guitar tone destroys all the low end runs. after watching him play, i called my guitar tech and told him i wanted scalloped frets on my jackson rr v, but he said no cause it was bad for my neck or sumthin. his highlight is when he gets on the classical acoustic. omfg he lights it up, making it the second best performance of the night. i noticed him doing alot of hammer-ons, and it turns out he just dropes alot of pics. watch close and you will see him goin thru like 20 pics. but you cant tell from just listning, this dude owns the fretboard. oh and beware, his drummer is cowbell heavy( gag me with a trem tool!).
Over all these are excellent musicians and any real guitar player must watch this at least once i think. i know that theres 2 parts i will watch over and over...
