Summary: Succeeds on every level
Review: This is a terrific DVD.It is emotional without being maudlin. It is a *celebration* of George and his music. The musicianship is outstanding. The musicians are all pros, they don't overplay, the sound is simultaneously very tight and very loose. (Perhaps only a musician would understand the last statement.) I wonder if Jeff Lynne, who is responsible for the sound mixing, left certain instruments out of the mix. At certain points there are 4 drummers, 2 or 3 percussionists, 8 guitarists, and 4 keyboards, yet the sound is not cluttered at all... The material really highlights Georges gift for both lyrics and melody. Eric Clapton, the musical director, did a great job of managing the musicians. For those who don't know: Joe Brown is/was a big star in England and Europe. In fact, the Beatles used to open for him a long time ago, which is how they met. Sam Brown is Joe's daughter. She had a run of popularity in England and still performs and records. She delivers a great vocal on "Horse to Water". Jools Holland is a popular R&B band leader in England. My only gripes are that Ravi Shankar's piece, composed for the event, is longer than it could have been and the Monty Python segment just didn't do it for me. In addition, I would have liked to have seen some kind of "family tree" that explained the connection that the performers had to George. I got this DVD from my local library and it is definitely on my buy list.

Summary: I didn't know I was a George Harrison fan
Review: I guess I came late to the party, since I didn't recognize the majority of the listed songs. I grew up with the Beatles, but I didn't follow their solo careers at all. So I was greatly surprised to find that I couldn't stop playing this DVD over and over. I liked it so much I bought the soundtrack, and like others I'm sorry that space constraints kept "Lead a Horse to Water" off the CD. I also didn't know who half of the artists were. Gary Brooking?, Jools Holland? Sam Brown? Well now I know. I've spent a lot of time finding out about all of the artists. This is a must own DVD for anyone that likes great music preformed by experts.

Review: george harrison was 1 of my guitar heroes for many reason this dvd performed by his friends a few days after he died captures his magic hearing clapton and mcartney both play my guitar gently weeps is my fav highlight of this beautiful dvd 5 stars NO DOUBT lol

Summary: Superb Memorial Best Concert Ever
Review: I'm a late 60's early 70's rock fan. Never really got into most of George Harrison's later music, after The Beatles. Liked several but avoided lots. This concert blew me away. The artists are all masters of rock and roll. The masterfull rendition of "Horse to Water" by Ms. Sam Brown lifted me out of my chair. It was incredible. Clapton and all the rest paid a beautiful tribute, in George's own style, to a master and a wonderful man. This DVD opened my eyes and lifted my spirit.

Review: Before I picked this up, a friend of mine, who saw the movie in a theatre, warned me that there would be two moments in the film where I'd probably find myself crying. Hell, I cried through this whole thing. I found myself tearing up at the start of darn near every song. I think it's because I simply can not imagine a finer tribute paid to anybody. George Harrison clearly meant so much to the guys on stage that there was hardly enough room for all that heartfelt emotion. Usually, tribute stuff like this is supposed to have highlights and parts that don't work quite as well, but here, you could say the whole thing is a highlight. Who'da thunk the first GH song you'd hear on a night like this would be "The Inner Light," the long-forgotten flip side for "Lady Madonna" that most Beatles fans would never recognize? Jeff Lynne's performance of this song is both reverent and well-done, placed amid Ravi and Anoushka Shankar's compositions to their friend. Then there's the Pythons. Hilarious. Check out the documentary on the second disc. DOUBLE Hilarious. Then the boys take over. My favorite songs: Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers doing "I Need You." Joe Brown's take on "That's the Way It Goes," his daughter Sam's "Horse to Water," and the big ending jam on "Wah Wah." And if you can hold in the waterworks when Ringo sings "Photograph" (All I've got is a photograph and I realize you're not coming back anymore), then you are made of stone. I can't put it better than a quote I read in another review of this DVD: "Now they know how many souls it takes to fill the Albert Hall. Just the one." What better tribute than that could there be?

Summary: The Spirit of George Lives
Review: A "Concert for George" was extremely well-produced and entertaining. It was great music, performed by leading artists like Eric Claton, Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Billy Preston, and many more. It is a wonderful collaboration, with different singers sometimes taking turns singing verses of the same song.
They sing the songs just like George, and there is the added bonus of the best guitarists alive. Ravi Shankar discusses George's strong spiritual beliefs with great affection and tenderness. This is a womderful celebrattion of his life and music.
I am watching it over and over again.

Review: Oh my, well I'm 13, and now I basically love the Beatles now when I heard the song "My Guitar Gently Weeps". Whenever we watch this video it brings the whole family together because we all love this DVD. It's so touching. The last song of the concert, "I'll See You In My Dreams" with the ukelele, it's very touching. Makes you want to cry. I can't cry that easily either. I'll sum this whole thing up: If your a Beatles fan, huge or just like one song, you have to get this DVD. You get to see Ringo and Paul together on the same stage for once after a lot of years to do a tribute for their old friend, with the bonus of Paul and Eric singing together beautifully. Heck, I'm watching the concert on my computor right now. So catch ya' later.

Summary: Great music and a moving experience
Review: The people in the music business that love George Harrison (I can't imagine anyone who doesn't, except Paul McCartney) really came together and put on a warm, happy, upbeat concert that rang through with George's spirit. The 'Gentle Beatle' was definitely there, and everyone put out their best for him and his family. And his son, Dhani Harrison! It is George reincarnated. What a great son. Clapton's putting it all out on 'My Guitar Gently Weeps', on which he originally played the guitar (you thought that was George, eh?) was spectacular. And Joe Brown's closing Ukulele solo, 'I'll See You in my Dreams', was spectacular for its simplicity and feelings. Even with tons of confetti raining down on the audience, they were silent as church-mice for that one. The strings cut in at the end and blew me away. Thanks to all who made it happen. Even Sir Paul, I guess.

Summary: You can really feel the Love for George
Review: 33 years ago in 1971, George gave the proceeds from Concert for Bangladesh to help millions in India to meet basic survival needs. He created the novel idea of benefit concerts that many others have continued until today. So it is more than appropriate for all his friends and extended family to honor him in this way. The music may look like another "greatest hits" compilation or nostalgic tribute, but it is really much more than that. Great care and attention to every detail/ note and lyric is given but there is also real Heart and Soul in this DVD. Everyone on stage appears to be very happy to be part of this celebration. At times there may have been 30 or more musicians and singers on stage! I've just finished watching this DVD today and I feel uplifted and exhilarated. It truly does deserve the 100's of 5 star ratings that have been presented by reviewers. The sound is superb, the filming was perfect, maybe I will give this a 108 star rating! If you're a fan of George's solo work or even a longtime Beatles fan you Can't miss with this DVD. Michael Palin said, "It was absolutely everyone at their peak. I think the energy there was hitting way above the levels." When you see this Dvd you'll know what he meant. Jeff Lynne and Eric Clapton were both exceptional playing and singing George's songs as well as Joe and Sam Brown. One idea I have for a Travelling Wilburys type super group would be the linking together of Jeff, Paul, Eric, and Ringo with possibly Billy Preston on keyboards, Wow!!! I'll end with a quote from an old Richard Rodgers song as my tribute to George. When you walk through a storm, hold your head up high, And don't be afraid of the dark. At the end of a storm, there's a golden sky, and the sweet silver song of a lark. Walk on through the wind and rain, though your dreams be tossed and blown.
