Review: Dudes, this DVD sucks in a major way. No Van Halen music on it. A few seconds of live performance. Loads of poseurs and hangers-on blabbing about how they knew the great VH years before anyone else - blah blah blah. No genuine input from the band themselves, this has just been knocked together on the cheap to turn a quick buck. I was SOOOO looking forward to watching this and was then SOOOO disappointed. Any sensible VH fan will already know the stories ("No brown M&Ms" - YAWN!). All I really wanted was some video clips of Eddie from the early days letting rip at the keg parties and all that - man, that would have rocked. But instead - ZIP! Do not waste your money on this rip-off trash.

Summary: Nice Job
Review: Overall, the DVD was pretty good. It had a quite thorough history of the Van Halen Brothers, their bands, and the members in each of their bands. A few things that could have been added or different, is that there is other band's music playing in the background-kinda weird and the other things is, they could have added some sound clips of how Van Halen progressed over the years. Even if you are a Van Halen fanatic, there is some information to be learned from this film. I would definately recommend it to anyone.

Summary: Finally somebody did the right thing!
Review: I received the documentary in the mail yesterday. Thank you Passport Productions and Koch Distribution for finally delivering a long awaited blast from the past. The more I watch the piece the more I want more. Please make another one ASAP. The documentary is educational and informative and a great tool for the student or aspiring young band. I think a piece with more people like Greg Emerson, Ed Anderson, Mark Stone and Neil Zlozower and people who actually lived and breathed it should be made. A more behind the scenes retrospective about the sex, drugs and rock and roll on the road. Perhaps a more cutting edge piece. It seemed to me that people being interviewed were holding back some and not really divulging what really went on after hours. For instance I for one would really want to know what happened at the MTV awards show in '96? Stuff like that.A great foundation was built with "The Early Years" Now let's hear about what you can't even imagine to be true. Guys like Jeff Hausman, Paul Anderson, Dave's friend and the lady who was the rock journalist painted a very intelligent picture. They basically spoke from printed material and stories they were told. They were not there. This compilation of interview footage, pictures, artwork, and some smokin' music helped reflect on the history of one of the greatest rock-and-roll bands of all time. Once again, Passport Productions and Koch Distribution, Bravo. I am sure your decision not to use Van Halen music was not your choice. Obviously Warner Brothers and the Van Halen camp squashed your idea to use original Van Halen music. Some of the music you did use however was in your face rock and roll. Mucho Thanks

Summary: Not what it's cranked up to be.
Review: I would have prefered a DVD that has the backing of the band, this most definatley hasn't because the footage is minimal and the music is non-existant. When Ozzy did his documentary from the beginning with his involvement it was great to learn off. But this DVD has left me thinking as to why it was released in the first place. I am disappointed that the advertisers have not been totally honest about this documentary. I really hope in future that there is a proper VH early day documentary which is made by VH and features more interviews with one of the greatest guitarists in the world. To talk about groupies and mad parties like on this DVD is nothing new I'm afraid as for copyright reasons, it's obvious that the makers couldn't go any further. Hopefully in the future an insight into the VH beginnings will be done properly.

Review: This really has a lot of very rare shots and cool interviews with people from WAY back. A lot of info about the origin of Van Halen. For hardcore VH fans this one is a must have. I haven't seen any like this one. NICE!!!!

Review: A DVD without a single track of Van Halen played. Thats a new one on me. This DVD is a case of lets cash in, without the copyright people holding us liable. A big seller, NOT! Look on Amazon.co.uk, and see how many copies of this DVD are up for sale as used already after what? 1 week of sale? If you are 50/50 about buying this DVD, maybe wait for some other reviews to appear after 9 December before wasting your money.

Review: Let me tell you something Bob---Don't ever compare Jimmy Sloppy guitar playing Page to Van Halen ok? John Bonham made Led Zeppelin--If it weren't for him --they would be very average. This DVD is worth getting just because it is Van Halen--THE BEST BAND THAT EVER CAME OUT OF AMERICA--or the world for that fact--I have been a Halen fan since 78 and know their music and history up and down. Like Jimmy page could ever play a song like MEAN STREET---in his freakin dreams--He is too sloppy and drugged up to even attempt such a masterpiece--So if you want to see a real DVD get this. Or go Watch the Songs Remains the Same ( a big snore fest)--one of the biggest flops ever put out on DVD by the great Led Zeppelin--Thank God for Bonham--He saved em. God bless his soul. One more thing--What does a Scottish guy know about Van Halen? MORON!!!! Stick to the bagpipes Scotty!!!

Summary: Somebody get me a doctor!
Review: Like previous reviews this is no way whats it's being cracked up to be. I expected much much more and felt ripped off when the final article was played on my system. This DVD has very little material of interest to fans. Van Halen are Legends and hopefully they will produce a proper history of the band through 'THEIR' words and not a load of nobodys tellings us stories just to cash in on them. Funny how so many people have agreed with the first review giving this DVD 5 stars, despite the fact that it hasn't been released to date. Really makes you think.

Summary: A Major disappointment.
Review: I have never watched a documentary about a band with non-related music in the background before. This DVD is basically made up of pictures and the people being interviewed on it seem to be stringing together vague memories of when they either knew VH in a casual way or worked for them. A lot of the information on this DVD is already well known and the alleged interviews especially with Alex Van Halen can only be described as dia. As for the excerpts about the atomic punks and the VH museum they last in total for a few minutes at the most, and the museum is made up of a pick up, a guitar (could be anybodys) and a T-Shirt. I cannot recommend this it is really bad.
