Summary: It Helps If The One You Love Loves It
Review: Every year my wife gives me an opportunity to show how much I love her, and this year it's coming up this evening. We're going to get a fire going in the fireplace, fill two mugs with hot egg nog, snuggle up on the couch under a quilt...and she's going to hit the play button so we can watch White Christmas. Why she loves that movie is beyond me, although a few parts I find tolerable.

It's one of the most ickily sentimental of the seasonal movies. Crosby is too old, Danny Kaye too unfunny, and Vera Ellen too unhealthily thin. (I'm not making a joke at her expense. She had major problems along these lines for years which damaged her health.) The "Let's put on a show" theme was ancient when Crosby was born. The romance misunderstandings between Crosby and Rosemary Clooney are just tiresome.

Why do I stay snuggled up (except for the bathroom break when Kaye starts his modern dance sendup)? I think Rosemary Clooney is a sweetie. She was a great singer with a warm, funny, natural personality. I'm also a sucker for most of Irving Berlin's new stuff. I like "Sisters," "Snow" and "Love, You Didn't Do Right By Me." The egg nog helps; we make it with fair amount of rum. And I love my wife.

Summary: Corny and Wonderful!
Review: An aging crooner, recycled songs, corny plot, and it all adds up to my favorite Xmas movie.
If you don't like musicals that's one thing, but if you do I can't see how you wouldn't love this movie. Bing even gets in a little cool cat humor here and there, and the scene where he and Danny Kaye dress up in drag and end up cracked up in laughter was spontaneous--the director decided to leave it in.
Gorgeous technicolor too.

Summary: Cozy and festive.
Review: The perfect film for a festive season, "White Christmas" is a cozy Technicolor spectacle made during Hollywood's golden age, with top-notch stars and a classy musical score. Less a Christmas film per se, and more of a film that takes place during Christmas, the only "Christmasy" parts are at the beginning and the end of the film. The remaining parts are devoted to an eclectic assortment of Irving Berlin tunes and a light, breezy storyline, yet the festive mood and the sheer quality of the talent on display never lags. If ever a film was made to be watched while sitting in front of a roaring fire sipping Christmas nog, this is it.

Summary: Happy Holidays with White Christmas!!
Review: This is a wonderful movie! I love musicals! And Vera -Ellen is one of the people who inspired me to be a dancer! I am 14 years old, and I love this movie! It is about two show performers who decide to help their old friends inn, which is not doing very well, bring business in with they're acts! Rosemary Clooney! Bing Crosby! Vera Ellen! Danny Kaye! And a number of other stars make this movie an all star cast! This a movie that cannot only be watched around the holidays!

Summary: The best things...
Review: "White Christmas" is one of those movies that I've seen multiple times each Christmas season. The DVD version of the movie is excellent -- especially the commentary track with Rosemary Clooney. Her enjoyable anecdotes about the making of this classic are priceless. I particularly love the story about when the King and Queen of Greece show up during filming. She also sings along with the show. It's like watching it with the dear woman in your living room. This is equally special since she is no longer with us.

The movie itself is great and I love it because of the feelings it brings. The story is kind of silly and trite and the songs don't advance the storyline. Hey, when you've got great dancers and singers like Clooney, Crosby, and Kay -- who needs storyline advancement. Plus, Irving Berlin's songs are top notch!

The movie is beatufiul and beautifully filmed. If you've never seen this movie, but you're a fan of movie musicals, Bing Crosby, Rosemary Clooney, or just love Christmas -- check this movie out! I don't think you'll be disappointed.
