Summary: No music at all
Review: I love the Stones, and this show is great! I've always dug the music but I never knew too much about how they started- but this show explained it all. Some of the writers on this show are really good documentary makers, I've seen their work before. I've read other complaints below, but you have to realize that this is an unauthorized show- YOU CAN'T PLAY THEIR MUSIC! This is the undercover history of the good and bad of the band from those that were there: the drugs, the fights, the songs! And I should know, I'm Fortunato Plethora!

Summary: Just For The Record
Review: I really wonder if anyone ever reads these reviews anyway,
sometimes I spend a Sunday morning reading these and find stuff like this, wondering what it is... Forty Licks is Good is this from the tour??? Who Knows? I wish the Stones would consider coming to Dallas,Texas and play 3 shows like they are in other cities...The Blues was Born in Dallas and I wanna see you here Live... If not I will just have to settle for HBO or when this DVD comes out whatever it is...

Summary: Who Would Buy This?
Review: I was just about to buy this collection when a friend warned me off. I thought even though it was unathorized there would be some revelations - gossip even. But this is ... in the extreme. Nothing new here or original, and guess what - NO STONES MUSIC PERIOD. Who thought of producing a set on the greatest band in the world without the kick ... music included?? To make matters worse, some jerk thought it would be cool to get a guitar player to mimic Keef's classic riffs throughout - BAD IDEA. This box must have taken a day to throw together. Okay, so maybe getting hold of the guys would be tough, but why not get together some of the bands who have fallen under the spell of the Stones - GnR's, Aerosmith, Nugent, to name a few. Save your money and buy the recent remasters . If my friend hadn't warned be off, I'd be real ... now - nearly 50 bucks!!! GIVE ME A BREAK. There should be a law aginst putting stuff like this out .

Summary: Good if you want general Stones news
Review: Right off the bat, why they included that horrible fake riff is something I'll never know. I can't stand to hear it. The only thing that I really like about this dvd set were the Taylor interviews. He was after all part of the group during the best line-up. Still, it's depressing not hearing Rolling Stones songs in a Rolling Stones documentary. The first to volumes are good. Then is kinda just gets boring. They had good concert footage but it still felt really incomplete without official songs. Hopefully someday we will get something for the Stones thats just as good as the Beatles Anthology. Set is good for newbies, keep away if you are a die-hard fan.

Summary: Don't waste your money
Review: Stupidly, I bought this box set thinking that there must be something worthwhile for the Stones fan. I mean, five disks ought to contain something of some interest, right? Forget it. Buying this set was a major mistake. The interviews (apart from those with Mick Taylor and Anita Pallenburg) were amateurish; the footage was nothing to write home about; and, there was no Stones music whatsoever -just this irritating, bush-league, Keef-like riff (actually, there were two riffs, designed to sound like Honky Tonk Women and Brown Sugar) inserted at "opportune" moments (like when the band was playing). Forty clams down the drain. Hopefully, a used CD store will take it off my hands at a 75% haircut.

Summary: Excellant Documentary and footage of the Stones last40 years
Review: The 5 tape series from the 60's to the present was comprehensive and objective and extremely interesting. If your looking for concerts go elsewhere as this looks at personalities, the music, the business, and how they got to be the greatest rock and roll band in the world. It was great to hear and see Mick Taylor and Anita Pallengurg comment on their days with the Stones.Great information and never seen footage!Well done and highly recommended!

Summary: This Stone's Gathered Moss
Review: The DVD gets an "A" for effort BUT a "D" for execution. In theory, it should be exciting, loaded with graphics, videos, still photos, etc. In reality its a bare-bones DVD set that, while it is extensive, does not contain basics like Subtitles that are on other DVD's of this magnitude.

The 5-DVD set is broken down into a history of the Stones by decades beginning with the 60's and ending with the "The Two Thousands." Each disk has chapters and "Bonus Footage." The bonus footage on many disks is a re-hash of the Chapter footage on that disk, under a different name or with more of the same tacked on.

There are some great interviews with Bernie Fowler, Dick Taylor, Billy Preston, Mick Taylor, Bo Diddly, Terry Reid, Anita Pallenberg; but other interviews with "personalities" like Penny Arcade who have no connection to the Stones for this fan, are included.

I didn't like the fact that there are:

No Subtitles.

No Language Selection - English language only.

The DVD Disables the "TIME" control on DVD players, making it impossible to see how much time is left in the Chapter or DVD.

The DVD disables the "INSTANT REPLAY" button.

Goodies that should be on this set like some of the Stones' music videos are woefully omitted.

Other goodies that would have been nice would have been Still Photos, lyrics, a Discography, photos of Album Covers, weblinks, etc. An interview with Allen Klein would have been great.

No Easter Eggs!

If your a Stones fan, rent it; if you're thinking of buying - wait until it's on sale.

Summary: one for the fans only
Review: This 5 disc package is not authorised by the Stones and contains no Stones Music at all. Typical pay TV fodder, better off getting the excellent 12 X 5 documentary along with Bill Wymans book Rolling with the Stones. On bright moment is a copy of the rice bubble jingle as a bonus on the first disc. Lets hope ther is a DVD from latest tour.
