Summary: Review it with an open mind!!!
Review: I cannot believe the negative (albeit, few) reviews some knuckleheads are giving this classic! They obviously are not going into it with an open mind. Of course, if you ARE a Beatles fan you will love this film without hesitation. If you are impartial or simply NOT a Beatles fan you will still love this wonderful film. If you pretend you are a qualified film critic then you will probably give this a "thumbs down" but you are only fooling yourself. Open up! The Beatles' acting is much better than so-called actors in their first film. Whoever said Ringo's acting, in particular, was bad, is way out of line. Ringo is charming and quite amusing. All this film is about is a day in the life of The Beatles (there's a song there somewhere). I don't think it pretends to be anything else. Enjoy it for what it is! If it's lack of substance you want, then go back to your Hip-hop, Backstreet Boys, or Madonna videos!

Summary: Simply The Best!
Review: This is the best movie I've ever seen & simply my favorite. If your a true Beatles fan, your not trying to find the flaws, but the best parts. They weren't being actors, they were being themselves. (FYI It was Ringo's natural affability in front of the cameras that made him the most successful Beatle in pursuing a later career in films.) When you watch this movie, start it by expecting absolutely nothing. A blank screen. Then when it's over, you'll come out with everything.

Summary: Just a great, fun movie
Review: Being an old codger, I well remember the hysteria of the Beatles' 1964 tour of Australia. There really were screaming, fainting girls (although the ones in the film were paid extras! Phil Collins (later of Genesis) was an extra as a boy in this film - can you spot him!). It's a funny, cheerful movie, with great Beatles music, and very clean! (A reference to Wilfred Bramble as Steptoe senior, "you dirty old man!" in Steptoe and Son).

If you can get to see 'The Running, Jumping, Standing Still Film" by Richard Lester, you will see the humor that drove 'A Hard Day's Night'. The short was included on the end of some VHS editions of the film, with an interview with Lester. The Beatles had seen that 11 minute short, had grown up on Spike Milligan and The Goons, and it was natural to do the surreal humor and the semi-smart lines. It isn't Marx Bros. humor, except in humor's universality and the Marx Bros.' brilliance and sense of the ridiculous.

Enough analysis: "Analyzing comedy can only lead to tragedy" (Alex Buzo). Enjoy this movie. I do (in my 40s), my children do (under 10s) and for all sorts of reasons. One of may favorite scenes is John's encounter with a woman in a studio corridor "you look just like him", where they hold a conversation that on the one hand is full of meaning, yet on the other hand is totally meaningless. This is Goon Show humor, with surrealism, and just plain funny on a number of levels.

BTW, the papers falling from the helicopter at the end of the film are the photos upon which Paul's grandfather forged the lads' signatures, then tried to sell to the fans. Paul throws them out of the chopper as it lifts off, his grandfather being handcuffed to the seat inside the door with the offending photos on his lap. And note John Bluthel as the car thief in the middle of the police chase, stealing the old Humber Super Snipe. Derek Guyler as the police sergeant. The lads playing in the field with joyful abandon having escaped from the studio, including the cricket 'long run up' and 'brilliant diving, running catch' routine we all played as kids, even before the movie.

Enjoy!

Summary: Interesting, but the acting is terrible
Review: If you really like the Beatles, then you may enjoy this movie. After seeing this movie, however, you will see why the Beatles made so much more money from music than they did from movies.

Ringo Starr simply cannot act. As you watch this movie, you may begin to wonder if Mr. Starr has some kind of learning disability.

Other than the acting, the music is great.

Summary: This is one of the awesomest movies ever and it's really fab
Review: A Hard Days Night is one of my favorite movies ever and it's really awesome and so are the Beatles!!!! I especially like the bit at the end when the Beatles are giving the concert and Paul's grandfather comes out of the trapdoor thing on the stage. I also like the bit when John is in the bath and when Norm goes to get him he's dissapeared and then he apperars in the doorway. That bit's funny too. (=

Summary: One of THE BEST movies I have ever seen
Review: It doesn't matter (that much, at least) if you are a Beatles fan or not. The script to this movie is funny and interesting even without the "fab four." Of course, it would certainly be lacking something without their sensational charm. Their individuality absolutely sparkles in this movie. And it doesn't hurt to include some of their wonderful music. John's hilarious sense of humor is illustrated as clearly as Paul's sweet temperment. While George and Ringo are definetely better in HELP, they are still an absolute necessity here. From Paul's mischievous grandfather to the Beatles' screaming fans, this is a movie that will grow on you throughout the years. You will find yourself noticing new things every time you watch it - a must buy classic!

Summary: ...AND I LOVE IT
Review: One of the most energetic, frenzied, funny, slapsticky rock 'n roll movies ever made. Recently released in theaters, the print was beautiful, and the songs sounded perfect!

I caught it at the downtown art house-theater, and asked them to crank it up a notch. We were not disappointed. It was great to hear the old songs again, and the boys looked spiffy in their suits. One forgets the many subtleties in the film and the era in whch it was shot in.

Its hard to watch and not start missing Johnny all over again. What a presence he was.
