Summary: a great film, but...
Review: uneven, certainly not as revelatory in 2002. blather on as you must about the film's original date of release; you're buying it *now*. some of the sequences are painfully staged, and many of the reaction shots by the frenzied, adenoidal teens look like they were cued. my biggest gripe is still the repetition - "can't buy me love", "a hard days night", "and i love her" and one or two other songs get played *twice*, setting the groundwork for the 40 minute long music commercials on television we call "programs". the film wins, however, whenever the lads are allowed to do their thing, from john snorting "coke" in an early segment of the film to ringo's deadpan interviews. it's all very "goon"-like and i still fall in love with all of 'em whenever i watch this. it's a great showcase of the fabs' charisma and early talent (as opposed to their later genius), but the award for "best rock and roll film" still goes to _don't look back_.

Review: Wowww ¡¡¡¡ I'm from México and when I saw for the first time the movie in the theater I was amazed. Perhaps having Beatles songs it has John,George,Ringo and Paul acting.
With funny dialoges and comic scenes it is one of the many master pieces of The Fab Four.
They have to be........THE BEATLES (Yesterday,today and forever)

Summary: A classic of the sixties and all times!
Review: I was just a child when first introduced to The Beatles; I was a teenager when I went potty over them. Despite the fact that I was born some good seven years after the band's demise, I can't really say I'm embarassed to be a fan at all. This movie, the first I ever saw by them, portrays the exact feel of what Beatlemania must have been back in it's day. If you have a knack for english humor and non stop puns, this is a great movie to watch. Just one look at these four guys and one could not avoid falling for them. John's somewhat agresive sense of humor, George's serious but nevertheless hilarious soft spoken charisma, Ringo's laconic humor, Paul's non-stop vigilante behavior, and not to mention the great performance of Wilfrid Brambell, portraying Paul's grandfather, described by Paul himself as "a king mixer and a troublemaker", as he tries to cause quarrels between staff, band members and crew, all the while trying to make a profit out of forged autographs of the boys. Beatles at their fullest! The best movie they ever did.

Summary: a classic
Review: I first saw A hard day's night at the drive-in with my sister when i was 17 in 1964. i am now 54. i love it just as much now as i did then. It is so nice to be able to see them on screen whenever we want to with this great movie they all did together.
I cannot believe how George got up after falling down like he did in the opening scene! Ringo too.
I thought they all did a great acting job. It is fun to watch them perform on stage singing as well.
A movie someone should own if you are a true Beatles fan!!

Review: The Beatles first movie was a great success. The lines are funny and it's great to see them in action. Compared to their other films this one makes the top of my list. Listen for the best line, "I now declare this bridge open." It's all smiles and laughs; it's a must see film! Don't miss the re-release!

Summary: Simply The Best Rock 'n Roll Movie Of All Time
Review: The title of my review says it all. So much has been written about A Hard Day's Night that I can't imagine what else to add. When the movie was re-released in late 2000, I took my then-11-year-old daughter to see the film. She knew about the Beatles because I play their CDs so much in the house and in the car, but she'd never seen them on the big screen. Half the fun of seeing the film in a theater again was watching her reaction to the film...she was smiling all the way through...and so was I!
When we were leaving she said, "Dad, they were really good!"No kidding!! And now having a beautiful widescreen print, with all the extras included...well, there'll be many hard day's nights when I'll pop this into the DVD player and lose myself in the fun and the memories of the time.

Review: Ok, ok, ok. I love this movie and I hear the extras will make it worth the wait, but enough is enough. Buena Vista or Martin Lewis need to hurry it up because I hear the grumbling and a riot is about to start.

Review: Though it is not truly a music video - at the same time it is. As biographical as you can get, while also being a showcase of early songs for one of the greatest bands of all time. Simply a fun movie to watch.

Review: In 1963, The Beatles were at their peak of popularity in England. This wave of "Beatlemania" was witnessed by George "Bud" Ornstein who worked for United Artists film company in Britain. He thought this hysteria would be great to catch on film. So, he asked Walter Shenson, who had a reputation for making low-budget comedies, to produce the film and Alun Owen, a British dramatist, to write the screenplay. Together with Richard Lester directing, A Hard Day's Night captured The Beatles' individual personalities and scouse humor along with the hysteria generated by their fans over a fictitious two-day period in their lives. "The Beatles' music obviously played a major part in the film and it was introduced in a refreshingly natural way unlike the forced musical breaks in so many previous rock'n'roll films" ("The History of The Beatles on Film" by Bill Harry). The Beatles were not actors. They were performers, singers and songwriters and the music was used to stress that point. The music was an added attraction next to seeing The Beatles in their first film. The music did nothing to move the plot, in fact in most cases, it had nothing to do with the plot (if there was one). However, were it not for the musical interludes, it would have been a wasted movie. The songs in the movie showed an outburst of humor ("Can't Buy Me Love" played while The Beatles run rampant in a field), the fast pace of the film ("A Hard Day's Night" - played while The Beatles are being chased through a train station by their adoring fans), and a rehearsal number for the show ("And I Love Her"). The climax of the film is The Beatles' performance in front of a live audience for a television show. A medley of their songs was featured that included "If I Fell" and "Tell Me Why" and one of their biggest hits, "She Loves You" ended the concert. Each song was placed in the film in a way that it didn't have to be set up and was naturally eased into without any long breaks before the song starts or any waiting such as setting up the band. There are also no leads playing before the song starts. The audience is unaware of what song will be next or when one will appear. Released in England on August 2, 1964 and in America on August 12, 1964, A Hard Day's Night was praised by critics and fans alike. Andrew Sarris of The Village Voice called the film "... the Citizen Kane of Juke Box musicals" and The Daily Mirror critic, not a Beatles fan, said that they were "cheeky, irreverent, funny, irresistible" as quoted in "Billboard's Book of Number One Hits" by Fred Bronson. This film introduced the world to The Beatles (since their popularity and phenomenon was just beginning). The film grossed million in its first release, was nominated for two academy awards and was released in different countries and translated into different languages. I love this film (because, of course, I'm a huge Beatles fan). I found this film to be amusing (it's amazing that none of the lines were ad-libbed) and enjoyable. Most critics felt that Ringo's performance stood out from the rest and stole the show, but I feel that John's performance and lines were better (and I am more of a fan of Ringo than John). Overall, the film kept me moving (with its fast pace) and anxiously awaiting for the next song to appear or what type of amusing remark each Beatle would say next. As Paul McCartney said in an interview in 1984 (as quoted in "Billboard's Book of Number One Hits" by Fred Bronson) "I hate to say it, but when you see the girls in their mini-skirts and white floppy hats it does look dated. I think the general opinion is that it was funny and entertaining and I'm still proud of it." We are too Paul!
