Summary: A Film for the Ages
Review: Platoon, a film about a privates tour of duty in Vietnam; is much more than a sum of its parts. It might not be the most accurate of Vietnam films (it portrays most soldiers as either drugged out or excessivly violent) but it also tells the story of a battle between good and evil in the most chaotic of places. After starting as your standard war film, the platoon participates in a massacre of villiagers after losing one of thier own. The lines are drawn in a confrontation that will tear the team apart. The visuals are both stunning and effective, accurately showing the dense dark jungles of Southeast asia. The music is common and powerful which adds to the overall emotional effect. This film is certaily not one I will forget soon, as the byline says; "the first casualty of war is innocence".

Summary: BEST MOVIE EVER
Review: It's very easy-Platoon is an outstanding movie. It delivers great should have won oscar award performances from Dafoe and Berenger, but Sheen did an amazing job to. This move is seen through the eyes of ,Chris [Sheen], a newcomer to the war. He soon expierences all the nightmares of the war and wonders what the hell he is doing in it. To make it worse, his platoon is split between two dueling sergeants [Dafoe and Berenger]and the men that follow them. Berenger is a shoot everything , kill everything pyscopathic leader while Dafoe has lost his faith and belief in the war. Not only does Chris have to deal with the war but he must choose between his two sergeants. This film will always keep you at the each of your seat and wanting more. After watching it you will soon feel and know how horrible it must have been in Vietnam. I also recommend Born On The Fourth of July, another Oliver Stone film. But this one deals with the events that occured after the war. I recommend you go out and get Platoon because you will want to watch it over and over. Platoon is a very powerful film and in my opinion Oliver Stone is an outstanding director.

Summary: Rumors that Platoon is being RERELEASED on DVD
Review: The reason this movie is no longer for sale is because New Line was bought out a while ago by MGM (or something along those lines, but MGM now owns the video rights). MGM is rumored to be planning a special edition of Platoon in August, which probably means they are just rereleasing the old New Line DVD and calling it a Special Edition. Hope you find that useful!

Summary: A Masterpiece That Stands Alone
Review: "Platoon" is the most powerful movie I have ever seen, it is also the best war movie I have ever seen. For anyone who is intrested in movie this is a must see. Ever since "Saving Private Ryan" came out "Platoon" has gotten somewhat overshadowed by people. This film is a masterpiece.

Summary: Haunting, Lingering Images
Review: "Platoon" recreates a series of realistic, lingering images of Vietnam...sweltering heat, oppressive humidity, sweat, dehydration, monsoons, mud, leeches, mosquitos, fatigue, boredom, and fear. The images evoke emotions that are raw and bleeding. If you were there, you know, and the images will haunt you.

The storyline depicts the philosophical and spiritual struggle for a man's soul. A vulnerable man (Charlie Sheen's "Taylor") is pursued by the flawed forces of good (Willam Dafoe's "Alias"), and the brooding forces of evil, (Tom Berneger's "Barnes"). Few American servicemen can identify with these characters, but I don't think that was Oliver Stone's intent. I believe, instead, he wanted to depict the ageless struggle of good and evil in the most horrific setting known to man...war. In that sense, Stone succeeds brilliantly. His armageddon is well-conceived, well-written, and well-acted.

Yet for all the compelling elements of the story...it is the images that linger...long after the screen goes dark.

Summary: Interesting fact about this DVD
Review: The Blair Witch directors say they were inspired to make their movie from watching the documentary on the Platoon DVD. No joke! They thought it was fascinating what Oliver Stone did, making the actors go through the hellish boot camp... cool huh!

Summary: Sometin' Kool review on Sometin' totally awesome
Review: This movie is one of the best Vietnam war movie that I have ever seen. It is ranked right up there with 84 Charlie MoPic. I also love the music played throughout the movie. Not the music by artist, but the dramatic music. Espically when Elias lifts his arms in the sky in the shape of a "V" and collapses. It is a truely magnificant movie.-Sometin' Kool

Summary: INCREDIBLY REALISTIC ACCOUNT OF WAR
Review: A grunt's view of the Vietnam War is provided in all it's horrific inexplicable detail. Sheen is wooden in the lead, but both Dafoe and Berenger are resplendent as, respectively, good and bad soldiers. Strong visceral filmmaking from fearless director Stone, who based the film on his own GI experiences. Highly acclaimed; considered by many to be the most realistic portrayal of war on film.

Summary: A Modern War Classic
Review: This is no doubt, the best war movie I ever seen. In the movie a platoon learns the true horrors of vietnam, each other. Tom Berenger does a supurb job of acting. This movie has it all. It was based on the first hand experience of director Oliver Stone. The film won the 1988 Oscar for Best Picture and is enrichened by an excellent musical score.
