Summary: One of the ultimate tough guy movies
Review: This is the only movie that can realistically rival the Wild Bunch as the number 1 tough guy movie. It has everybody; Lee Marvin, John Cassevetes, Donald Sutherland, Charles Bronson, and its a guy's movie. It has all sorts of stuff blowing up, a lot of fighting, a lot of shooting, and its pretty funny too. I'm not a big fan of older movies but this is one of the best.

Summary: War- Hollywood style!
Review: This is war for schoolboys! Tough, movie action stars mow down a regiment of Nazis and accomplish a suicide mission. Realistic? No way! Fun to watch? You bet. One of the best action pictures of the 60's, and spawn of numerous imitations such as: "The Devil's Brigade" and "Kelly's Heroes."

Also look for the metaphors between the Dirty Dozen and Christ's 12 Apostles. Like the 12 Apostles, the Dirty Dozen have a Last Supper, have a betrayer among them, and only one of them is not "martyred."

Summary: Excellent action/war movie!
Review: This movie is quite possibly the all-time best of WWII action films. Excellent casting, filming, special effects, and more. The rogue GIs of this movie are introdued very well, giving you an immediate sense of who's who. Very dramatic. Lots of exciting plot twists. One of the best scenes is the war game take-over of Col. Breed's (Robert Ryan) command post. I highly reccomend this movie to anyone who enjoys tough, exciting action films.

Summary: An Older War Movie That Doesn't Hide The Violence
Review: This was a very realistic World War II movie that (unlike most war movies of the time) didn't shelter the viewer from the violence of war. The acting is topnotch, and so is the action. Whether this movie is based on a true story or is fictional, I don't know. The only thing I didn't particularly care about was how the movie went from serious to comedy, then back to serious at the end. It should have been serious all the way through, and the comedy relief in the middle should've been left out. I was surprised at how this movie wasn't sanitized like most older war pictures though, that's unusual. Worth a watch.

Summary: Tough guys and gritty action
Review: This was the first time I had seen this movie, and it lived up to my expectations. This is an escapist action film, not a historical war picture, and it delivers a great ensemble cast performance. Marvin and Bronson especially stand out. The training sequences here probably inspired everything from Heartbreak Ridge to the Mask of Zorro. The lengthy climax does not disappoint, but the rest of the film could have done with an edit here and there, because it seems very long. An added bonus on the DVD is a short featurette on the making of the film which follows the cast around "Swinging London" in 1967. It looks like it came directly out of Austin Powers. The narration is a hoot as well.

Summary: The Perfect Antidote for Liberalism
Review: To destroy your enemy or not to destroy your enemy, that is the question!

Liberals beware! You will not like this movie! In fact, you will hate it! Every time a Nazi Neanderthal is ruthlessly slaughtered by a member of the elite 'Dirty Dozen; (without due process), you will probably resort to the sort of whining and complaining that radical liberals are notorious for! (e.g."I want a recount!")

So, the Dirty Dozen didn't give the Nazis their day in court before sending them into eternity! So Jim Brown didn't think twice about foregoing the Nazi's rights to a fair trial when he arbitrarily imposed the death penalty on hundreds of unsuspecting Nazis by tossing a few hand grenades their way! So what?

And what of the radical environmentalists? They will loathe this film. This film is the veritable "Little Boy" of movies that depict environmental destruction, and the Nazis are the Amazon Rain Forest! I love the movie's symbolism!

At any rate, I highly recommend this movie to men...real men, to patriots, to conservatives, and to true intellectuals such as myself, who are able to appreciate the subtle art of war.

Summary: Great DVD, Crappy package
Review: While the DVD is sure to please, don't be lured into buying the special edition package. In this case the word "original" means brand new and not the original stills or lobby cards or even poster. The photos, on top of being murky and of forgettable scenes all say Turner Entertainment on them - obviously brand new and not original. Also don't get tempted by the original movie frame - i can only imagine that they made thousands of prints from the same "original" cel. Then again, if you're into reproductions this is the product for you. But, I think your money would be better spent on actual lobby cards or posters. Definately invest in the DVD but stay away from the limited edition packge.
