Summary: An Ok movie
Review: This movie is definitely different from most Vietnam movies. I enjoyed it, although it was rather long and slow at times. Colin Farrell's acting is tremendous and without him, the movie would not be as good. An all around average movie if you ask me, but any war movie buff should enjoy it.

Summary: must add to your collection
Review: This isnt a ;War: movie like saving private ryan. Its about training for Vietnam. It reminded me of platoon only in boot camp. This was one of Collin Farrell's first movies. He was a great actor, he's still a great actor, and he always will be a great actor. Overall I would say this movie is a mixture of platoon and full metal jacket. You should definatly see it if you havnt. If you are one of those people who dont like war movies because of blood and guts (i dunno why you'd be reading this), its not like that at all. I cant rememer anytime when it was gory.
Basicly the movie is a guy who slacks off because he wants to get thrown out, but doesnt realize the army is just going to make his life miserable. He then takes command of a squad at a boot camp named "tigerland" . Its up to him and his squad to succeed. BUY IT ITS WORTH IT

Summary: Stupendous war movie with excellent performances...
Review: "Tigerland" takes a road less traveled as far as Vietnam movies go. Instead of telling us about the war in Vietnam, it tells us the story of the path to get there. The results are absolutely excellent. Colin Farrell gives a star-making performance as Bozz, a rebellious recruit who hates the war, but has fun with it anyway. He's also an expert on military loopholes. At one point, he's stopped by a very young man who says, "They say there are two ways to avoid Vietnam: pray to Jesus or talk to Bozz." He couldn't be more correct. Bozz quickly learns respect among his platoon, despite the officers' constant hate and picking on of him. Soon, the platoon moves on to Tigerland, a shoddy war simulation of 'Nam where Bozz must prove his worthiness as platoon leader. Director Joel Schumacher proves here that he can still direct an excellent movie. His style is frantic and grainy, kind of like an old war movie. I suspect that's what he was going for. Farrell's performance is unforgettable. He's reminiscent of Brad Pitt in a few scenes, but mostly manages to create his own image. This movie proves that there is a likelihood he'll be getting an Oscar sometime in his career. He's definitely worthy of it. I reccommend "Tigerland" to pretty much anybody. But take note, it's not for the squeamish.

Summary: Awesome!
Review: Colin Farrell won me over with his acting in this film. It is little known by most that Tigerland itself was a Vietnam training Camp for soldiers about to go to combat. Farrell's character is one of great influence in the movie, and as an ROTC cadet, and (hopefully) soon to be second lieutenant in the United States ARMY, Tigerland is a great film that did not get the recognition is deserved! See it!

Summary: pointless
Review: This is a real snoozer. Ferrell is fine in the movie but the story is just pointless and unrealistic. I was interested in seeing this movie due to the fact it is drama and not action, but overall there is just nothing deep about this film.

Summary: See Colin Farrell in all his glory!
Review: This DVD contains Audio Commentary by Joel Schmacher, four segments of auditions (Cast Sessions) of Colin farrell that helped him get chosen for this break-through role, movie trailers and tv spots advertising "Tigerland" and an eight-minute featurette of behind-the-scenes of "Tigerland". The only flaw with this DVD is the film is only shown in "Widescreen". A "Standard version" would be nice, with a film print with better brightness.

Summary: Great movie
Review: Colin Farrell doesn't pull off a very good Texas accent but that's ok because this is a great movie. I had no idea what the movie was about when I started watching it so it was a big surprise to see a war movie about the soldiers before they actually go to the battle grounds. Something a lot of people don't consider is the stress these people are under from what is happening to them to what is going to happen to them. With movies like this maybe people can start appreciating our soldiers a little more. Colin Farrell is a great actor. Move over Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt. A real actor is in town.

Summary: A gritty ensemble drama
Review: "Tigerland," directed by Joel Schumacher, is a military drama that takes place during the Vietnam War era. The film tells the story of Army recruits undergoing training. The story builds up to their experience at Tigerland, an intense training ground meant to simulate Vietnam.

Colin Farrell is impressive as Roland Bozz, a rebellious soldier who inspires strong and varied reactions among both his fellow trainees and the Army leaders. Solid performances are also turned in by Matthew Davis and Clifton Collins, Jr. as fellow soldiers.

This is a gritty, compelling drama that vividly evokes the intensity and emotion of the Army training experience. The film raises interesting questions about leadership, responsibility, and character. The cast has a fine chemistry together, and there are some really moving scenes. The film is well complemented by Nathan Larsen's atmospheric musical score.

The DVD contains an intriguing commentary track by director Schumacher. He discusses the story, cast, shooting, cinematography, etc. His observations are sometimes funny, sometimes quite touching.

Summary: The Army can't figure him out, and neither can I
Review: OK, its obvious that both the central character of this movie, and the movie itself is a protest against war. This is all fine and dandy. There is a scene in it where American soldiers, who we are taught are the good guys, are taken into the woods and taught torture techniques involving battery cables being applied to sensitive enemy parts. That this stuff occurs does not surprise me at all.

The movie centers around a soldier in training in the U.S. during the last years of the Vietnam War. His squad is being trained to be shipped over there, and the odds of dying in this situation are pretty good. So the army seems to be teaching survival as much as fighting, and we don't blame them. By now the Army has seen that this war can't be won, and survival is all that is left.

The soldier has a bad attitude from start to finish. The opening scene has him leaving the stockade with the warning that future punishments for insubordination will be worse. This doesn't deter him. He constantly berates the system, and keeps getting into more trouble.

On the other hand, he has his victories. At one time, when his C.O. says if he doesn't do something he's going to kill him, the soldier flatly states that no, he's not going to be killed this way. He does it so convincingly that the C.O., who also knows he's not going to kill him, has to back off. However, the soldier also does reach out to the C.O. and tries to explain how this is all a game. In a fairly realistic scene, the C.O. to some degree agrees with him. These actions of naked truth actually get the soldier to become a squad leader, as he does show many talents.

But that's where the problem lies. I suppose it's OK to say he opposes the Army and war for their own sakes, and leave it at that. But this obviously talented man doesn't seem to have a direction of his own. While he does things to help his fellow soldiers, he also does things that anger them, and I think a flaw of the movie is that he doesn't get his butt kicked from all sides a lot more often. If the guy had a direction to channel his energy I would have liked the movie better, but with out this I find him just a punk who is endangering people who are just trying to stay alive.
