Summary: Best DVD of a bad movie
Review: Sure, it's a mess. Sure, it's loud. Sure, it's not funny. But all of the extras on this disc make up for that. Watch a 90-minute documentary as everyone involved tries to defend this movie. Look at production stills and lobby cards. See the theatrical trailers. One of the worst movies in my DVD collection; but one of the best DVDs in my collection. Just buy it.

Review: i think this is a cool moive that i dont hear about as much. it was very funny. i've seen it 3 times,once on regular video an twice on video but the widescreen dir.cut. i think this oe might be better. i highly recommond it. buy it!!

Summary: A horrible bloated self indulgent so called comedy.
Review: This film is horrid. HORRID!!! Having recently viewed it, I found it extremely difficult to find jokes or anything structured like a joke anywhere in this so called comedy. It's idea of a big laugh is an explosion which it constantly reminds us of in the closing credits. The pacing is so incredibly slow there's no opportunity for comedic timing. BAD through and through. (I'm shaking my head now) Bad.

Summary: DO NOT MISS!
Review: 1941 is undoubtably one of the greatest movie comdey classics of all time. The setting is from the day after Pearl Harbour to Pearl Harbour +6 and contains some of the driest and yet funniest humor usually associated with a Monty Python production. This is clearly one of the funniest movies ever produced and comes highly recommended. THIS IS DEFINATELY STEVEN SPIELBERG'S BREAKOUT MOVIE. DO NOT MISS THIS ONE!

Summary: Take a second look
Review: Almost all critics hated this film (and still do), and at the time it came out people were going out to the movies less and less. That's really too bad because after all the madcap nonsense and running around that made up the majority of the movie, there's an underlying current of paranoia and fear reflecting a time when the country was just starting to flex its power on a global scale. Thankfully, that sense of dread is brought back into the movie with nearly a half hour of footage cut out in 1980. Now as you may have read at the top this was done because sitting through a 21/2 comedy was unheard of then (it would still be frowned on now), but Spielberg using the comedy classic, "It's a mad,mad,mad,mad world" as his model, obviously knew what he was doing! Most of this new footage is at the beginning as its almost all character devolpment. Exactly what feels missing from the studio original! I had seen this movie over and over so many times, yet when I saw this version I finally see what the mean by "Director's cut" A huge thank you to whoever got this movie back on tape and impressively restored despite its bad reputation. It may not have been the right movie for 1980, but definitely check this version out and see what a difference it makes.

Summary: Animal House Goes To War -- Big Budget Comedy Noir
Review: Do not forget to remember that this is supposed to be SATIRE, otherwise you may find "1941" to be a rather crude, over-extended joke. With US military personnel more interested in "gettin' some" than in defending America, it becomes clear immeditately that priorities are considerably confused. Two of the lead characters in particular seem hormone-raged and obcessed with "scoring".Considered by many an overlooked Steven Spielberg Classic, I agree only with the technical aspects. Visually and acustically stunning, the macabre handling of serious historical subject matter and often repelling actions of bullies make this a less than "great comedy" for me. Viewing this film on the now-obsolete laser disc format was a visual treat, maily due to the lavish cinematography and brilliant score. Sadly, I do not intend to view this film a second time. For fans of the original SNL "not-ready-for-prime-time Players", their "involvement" is an added bonus. Not enough for me, sorry.***

Summary: Spielberg's Underrated Film
Review: If I continue saying that I love expanded editions and end up criticizing them, people will kill me. Unfortunately I have to say that "1941" is one of those editions.
When I first saw the movie, I found it hilarious that I barely understood why it was a flop at the box office. As a matter of fact I still do. Now comes the expanded director's cut of this so-called "comedy spectacular". Hey, new scenes, new dialogue -I have no problem with that. Once again, I have to criticize it because these new developments make the film longer and a bit boring. The only new scene that I really enjoyed from this cut is when the Japanese soldiers are disguised as Christmas trees, and there is Hollis Wood (Slim Pickens) trying to cut them down -now that was hilarious.
In general terms, I love the "Jaws" spoof when the same girl who was attacked in Steven Spielberg's first hit is attacked by...gulp!...a sub periscope. I also love the screaming when Wild Bill Kelso's (John Belushi) planes crashes down on Hollywood Boulevard. I like many things about this movie. However, as I said before, Spielberg's cut of the movie is somewhat dull.
As for the special features, I have to say that the "Making Of" documentary is insightful, but a bit long -was that necessary to record every Bob Gale detail regarding whatever happened after the attack on Pearl Harbor? Interesting deleted scenes, some of them without audio. Finally, I really love the isolated track of John Williams' spectacular music score. All in all, this DVD is interesting and somewhat enjoyable.

Summary: A film that will live in infamy
Review: What a dreadful movie - think "It's a Mad Mad World" without the subtlety and comedic timing. Yep - that bad.
To be sure, Spielberg's production values are excellent, and the soundtrack (by John Williams, no less) is splendid, but the film itself is chaotic, moronic and, regrettably, unfunny.
And just to put the icing on the cake: the DVD edition is described as "widescreen", but it's actually letterbox at standard resolution - not anamorphic, so the visuals aren't that great.
I suppose that this was Spielberg's "Eyes Wide Shut"......

Summary: look 1941 and laugh you butt off
Review: Well, not everyones taste, if you in for the real MAD and UNBOUND Humor, social not so correct, you will have the time of your life. Its a 2 Hour rollercoasterride, Way better than it rep. and a real good cure after been lobotomized by the movie formerly known as Pearl Harbor.
If your in for the so called "Real Hero" Movie Stuff, well try something else. For me Spielbergs best Movie,his only with Belushi, Lee and Pickens.
Hope they have the Making of, running time over 100 Min and nearly as funny as the movie, on the Disc.

Review: This movie is hilarious. Steven Spielberg did a GREAT job on this movie. Its has a wacky and zany plot that keeps you laughing every minute. If you like comedies, then this is the movie for you. 1941 is a must have.
