Summary: Great Guns!
Review: Peck, Niven, and Quinn bring Alistair MacLean's magnificent novel to life. Fantastic story centers on British troops trapped on the island of Kiros in the Agean & the giant Nazi guns that prevent the British Navy from rescuing them. Peck, Niven & team save the day & do so in grand, epic style. Clearly an inspiration for the Bond series & all big-budget action/adventure films made since this original masterpiece hit the silver screen. Columbia/Tristar have done a first rate job on restoring this movie to its original splendor. Can't wait to see this on DVD. Another MacLean powerhouse recommendation (Book & Movie) is Where Eagles Dare. These are must-owns!

Summary: THIS IS THE MOVIE FOR ME.
Review: AT THE START I THOUGHT THIS WOULD BE YET ANOTHER DOWN TO THE WIRE WAR PICTURE ABOUT GOOD GUYS AND BAD GUYS BUT WHEN GREGORY PECK AND ANTHONY QUAYLE WERE TALKING IN THE BOAT IT STARTS TO GET REALLY INTERESTING. STANLEY BAKER ON THE TOP OF THE CLIFF IS BRILLIANT WHEN HE COMPLAINS ABOUT THE LENGTH AND SHEER POINTLESSNESS OF THE WAR. MALLORY(PECK) HOWEVER MANAGES TO KEEP DISCIPLINE AND ORDER HOWEVER. THIS ACTUALLY CAPTURES THE TIME REALLY WELL IN BOTH THE WAY THEY BEHAVE AND THE WAY THAT THEY TALK. WHEN DAVID NIVEN FIRST CAME IN ITHOUGHT THAT HE WOULD RUIN IT BEING A LONG WAY FROM 'A MATTER OF LIFE AND DEATH', 'WUTHERING HEIGHTS' AND 'AROUND THE WORLD IN EIGHTY DAYS' BUT HE MAKES THIS FILM. DIMITRI TIOMKIN'S SCORES ARE CONSISTENTLY BRILLIANT AND SUIT THE MOOD TO PERFECTION. GIA SCALA, IRENE PAPPAS AND JAMES DARREN DO BRILLIANTLY WITH THEIR LINES AND ANTHONY QUINN IS DELIGHTFULLY VICIOUS AS ANDREA STAVROS. IF YOU'VE READ THE BOOK THEN YOU'LL NOTICE THAT CARL FOREMAN HAS TAKEN OUT ANDY STEVENS AND PUT MAJOR FRANKLIN IN. THAT WAS INGENIOUS. IT IS ONE OF ONLY 4 OCCASIONS TO MY KNOWLEDGE WHERE THE FILM HAS BEEN BETTER THAN THE BOOK(TO KILL A MOCKING BIRD, 1984 AND BEN HUR BEING THE OTHERS. ALL OF THE DRAMATIC SCENES ARE DONE TO PERFECTION AND THE SCENE WHERE THEY HAVE BEEN CAPTURED IS DONE SURPRISINGLY WELL. INSTEAD OF BEING THE ONE DIMENSIONAL VILLAIN THE FIRST OFFICER IS VERY HUMAN. WATCH THE ENDING CAREFULLY. LOOKING AT THE FACES OF THOSE ACTORS WOULD MAKE YOU LONG FOR A TIME IN CINEMA AND AN OH SO TRUE ZEITGEIST THAT IS SADLY GONE. THE MUSIC CROWNS IT ALL. LOOKING AT GREGORY PECK AND DAVID NIVEN AT THE END LOOKING BACK AT NAVARONE IS VERY MOVING FOR ANY LOVER OF THIS MOVIE AND DURING THE ENDING CREDITS THE HAPPY FACES OF SPYROS, BROWN, FRNKLIN AND MARIA IS VERY TOUCHING BECAUSE IT SHOWS THE THANKLESS BRAVERY OF PEOPLE LIKE THAT. IF YOU DIDN'T LIKE IT THE FIRST TIME WATCH IT AGAIN. OH AND BY THE WAY IGNORE JAMES ROBERTSON JUSTICE'S ACTING AT THE BEGINNING. SUBTLY BEAUTIFUL. LISTEN CAREFULLY TO THE WORDS OF THE SONG AT THE END.

Summary: DROP THE POPCORN!!!
Review: You will undoubtedly need both hands to hold onto your seat. With an all star cast, Gregory Peck, and Anthony Quinn are simply at their best in this movie. David Niven is truly remarkable. The plot of this movie is sheer genius, and if you have not seen this movie, do not bother renting it, buy it now!

Summary: A classic adventure film, possibly the greatest ever.
Review: Anthony Quayle is chosen to lead a group of spies onto a Turkish island because of his remarkable luck. When it runs out the inexperienced Gregory Peck is left incharge. With the help of explosives genius David Niven and strong man Anthony Quinn,Peck and co. must destroy some giant guns to save 1000 lives. Delightfully unpredictable and entertaining, better than any modern adventure.

Summary: A magnificent tale of duty, courage and determination.
Review: The Guns of Navarone stands alone as a tale of epic proportions set in World War II. A brilliant cast serves well a dynamic script and screenplay in this tale of a seemingly impossible mission. Gregory Peck and his awesome supporting cast takes us along for a journey into danger, courage and sacrifice. The assault on the guns of Navarone is a tale played out with an excellent plot and a breathtaking march toward the awesome guns which protrude from a mountain and dares the bravest sould to try and take them out. True to the courage and dedication of the allies of WWII, the movie permits us to relish in the planning, execution and celebration of the assault on the "Guns of Navarone"!

Summary: Wonderful movie, full of suspense!
Review: Peck and Niven make a wonderful team, just like their roles in the movie, The Seawolves. Niven plays Miller, an Englishman who is a chemistry professor and therefore, an expert with explosives, while Peck plays Mallory, an English captain in charge of the group of Allied commandos on a suicidal mission to go to Turkey and destroy 2 guns. They have to be destroyed in order for the 2,000 captured British troops on Kheros to be rescued. Niven is more like a comedian who loves to kid around and be kidded, while Peck just has great movie performance! Because of these 2, the movie is just simply great and heartwarming!

Summary: One of My Favorites!!!!
Review: I first seeing this film as a little boy and I fell in love with it then!! One could remake this classic but would the chemistry be right like it was in this masterpiece. If they did I believe that Pierce Brosnan would make an excellent Captain Mallory. Also I believe Denzel Washington, Francisco Quinn, Julianne Marguilles and Sean Connery would be supberb prospects for key members of a supporting cast!!!!

Summary: Trendsetter; loads of fun and intrigue...
Review: This film has maintained its momentum over time. I find it as exciting now as I did when I saw it in 1961. It was nominated for 7 Academy Awards, including Best Film, Director & Screenplay (it won for Special Visual Effects). The editing in particular is so precise as to keep a semblance of the tight drama unfolding before you. The acting is somewhat of a ham factory, and Gregory Peck is hammiest of all. I'm sure James Darren was thrown in there to attract lady viewers, and he's actually not as bad as the rest. A terrific 2.35:1 Widescreen is great, and the DVD offers some fun extras. There's little doubt that this was the inspiration for "The Dirty Dozen" (1967) and the other similar films that followed. Though it's all fiction (there is no Navarone), this is a very exciting war film layered with some human drama. "The Guns of Navarone" is a classic, and belongs in the film library of anyone who respects good film-making, as well as those who want to have an exciting time.
