Summary: Will someone please do a DVD version with Coral Sea
Review: Why won't someone put out a complete version of this movie on DVD or even VHS. It is a much better movie when complete and you almost never see it that way. TNT seems to be the only one who shows it that way and they almost never do so, TBS and TCM also show it but in various cut down versions. If the people who put these DVDs and VHSs out are so fond of the cut down version, why not release a two DVD set with the cut and complete versions on it so us werdos who like to watch complete movies can get our fix.

Summary: What Happened to The Coral Sea Sequence?
Review: I was disappointed, What happened to the Coral Sea Battle Sequence??? You made it sound like this was included in the this Special Edition??? I saw a version Years ago that had this in the Movie??? What happened to it??? Also Heston's Affair is only a added feature why isn't that in the Movie itself...I have the old VHS this DVD is no Different...Not Full Length...

Summary: Creative Editing and a Good Cast
Review: There's really not much new film footage in this movie. It's made with a lots and lots of stock footage. Even though, it manages to tell the story of the battle quite well and it entertains while you try to pick out all the actors that show up in this film such as Charlton Heston, Henry Fonda, James Coburn, Glenn Ford, Hal Holbrook, Robert Mitchum, Cliff Robertson, Toshiro Mifune, Robert Wagner, Robert Webber, Ed Nelson, James Shigeta, Monte Markham, Christopher George, Glenn Corbett, Tom Selleck, Dabney Coleman, Erik Estrada, and many others. One of the best elements of this film is the score and thematic march composed by John Williams. It looks great in widescreen.

Summary: Where's Coral Sea?
Review: What a crock!

I bought this DVD in the (vain) hope it contained the entire 2:45 minute movie not just the stupid love scenes (which I really don't care for.) The long version (rarely seen on TV) of Midway with more detail (among the missing scenes: the death of VT-3, the massacre of VMF-221 and the battle of Coral Sea) is (I think anyway) actually a better movie than the theatre original which is on this DVD.

Upon further reflection I should add the following. As it was pointed out, many of the additional scenes were shot for TV and not part of the original movie. However, if they could jam in those love (useless) scenes, why couldn't they stick in the combat (good) scenes that everyone else (myself included) wanted?

Summary: "Midway" (1976 dvd)
Review: I purchased this DVD & I was VERY disapointed. It wasn't even Remastered! This is one of my Favorite WW11 Movies & was looking forward to a little more than "Letterbox" format. One of your reviewers said he found a "special edition" I can't find one anywhere. He didn't even say if it was re-mastered? It's a GREAT WW11 movie but, it would be better if it was re-mastyered in DTS

Summary: HELLO!?! Why can't we get everything this time?
Review: I thought this time we would get everything, but again we did not. The only reason why I did not give this 5 stars was because we did not get the complete tv version with the Coral Sea battle. Its one of my favorite movies, but this is what DVD is for. Original version and the tv version on one disc, is there some kind of copyright thing going on with TBS/TNT and Universal over something? All that aside, its good to finally see this movie crisp, clear, and in wide screen. Maybe somebody will read this that can get the problem taken care, and I'll buy yet another edition of this movie.

Summary: Midway with Battle of Coral Sea omitted
Review: This production is very good. However, I have one big complaint: The Battle of the Coral Sea was omitted AGAIN.

I'm still waiting for a production that contains the full story. I would not have bought this edition if I had known that the Battle of the Coral Sea was omitted.

Summary: No Coral Sea sequence on new DVD!
Review: I purchased the Collector's Edition with the high hope that the Coral Sea sequence among others would be included. They are not! The extra scenes they're talking about deal with Charlton Hestons love interest and not the battle sequences! This puppy is going back REAL quick!

Summary: avoid the dvd and go vhs
Review: midway is not a bad film...but the dvd is done in one mono channel only..when the film was made it was in sensurround..and i thought the audio would be at least surround..but is it not and the video is still not what it should be...so go vhs and enjoy a pretty good film but not one of charlton's best...

Summary: Great Sea Battle Film But ...
Review: WHEN, OH WHEN are they going to put out the complete film which includes the "Coral Sea Battle?" We hear about it in the movie, but never see it on DVD or video releases. It has been shown on television ONLY! This is a GREAT movie, but PLEASE it would be so much better with the whole film. Why can't the studios put all the "collector's" stuff on the FIRST release of the older films? Hey, we can understand NEW release's but life is too short to keep getting version after version of the older movies. Just a thought.
