Summary: Poorly Done
Review: I really don't think this movie does a good job of capturing the realism of combat or the actual events at Gettysburgh. The dialogue and acting is also very poor.

Summary: Probably The Best Military Drama EVER!!
Review: If your a Civil War buff like I am this movie is for you. It vividly portrays the 3 day slaughter by actually putting you into the front lines with Col. Chamberlain or chrging up the hill with Gen. Armisted. Plus, it's not a boring documentary. I must agree though, the mustash's were pretty "interesting".

Summary: Much More Than I Expected
Review: Shame on amazon.com for not describing the contents of this gift set. You get more than the Director's Cut of the movie - which is monumental and terriffic - and the extra "Making of Gettysburg" video.

You also get the soundtrack on CD, a leather bound book with text by james McPhereson and paintings by the great Mort Kunstler, a period map of the Gettysburg Battlefield, four 8" X 10" portraits of key figures in the battle and - so help me - an unfired minie bullet from that time.

It is a treasure trove and worth every penny. Not just for the Civil War Buff - a movie lovers dream in a box. Highly recommended!!

Summary: An achievement in film making
Review: Besides "Saving Private Ryan," this is the only movie I have seen that has reduced me to tears. All of the cast gives a performance that is memorable, and this movie should have been on the AFI's top 100. In my opinion, a lot better than "Glory." I am a big history buff, and the U.S. Civil War is my favorite subject. I watched this movie in history class, and was compelled to buy it and I cried both times I saw it. I thank the Lord that someone has made a Civil War movie that isn't biased against the South. I would recommend this movie to everyone. There is only one thing missing; the horrors of war were portrayed GREATLY with emotion, but there was not enough physical evidence. There should have been a lot more "blood and guts," if you want to put it that way.

Summary: The Best!!!!!!!!
Review: This film is the best. It tells the story of the battle very well. I have been to Gettysburg 4 times a year since 1991. I think everyone should watch it. The battles are good. And the score is wonderful! I watch it all the time. And if anybody thinks it's stupid, I would like to see them go out there and show how brave they are under those situations. And for the guy in Japan, no there was not any orchestra at Gettysburg, but that is not the point. movies have music. It's a way of life. Duh! But any who, It is a GREAT movie.

Summary: Agreed! You should HAVE to see this film to remain a citizen
Review: This movie is the one of the best, if not THE best reenactment of historical events put on film. The authentic details are simply overwhelming. Whether it is the look of uniforms, weapons, or sheer scale of the setting, this movie captures that moment in history like no other film I am aware of. But perhaps even more impressive, terrific performance by actors bring out the real individuals who make up the history. I am especially impressed by diverse speech patterns, the tone, and vocabulary of the time captured so finely in this movie.

Like another reviewer here, I am no fan of Ted Turner. But he has done a admirable service to our country by producing this movie. I believe this movie should be made a part of curriculum for all high school students. In fact, I believe no student should be allowed to graduate from high school unless he watches this movie and write an extensive essay on this battle - and its meaning.

We do teach Lincoln's Gettysburg address, don't we? Well, this movie brings home what Lincoln was talking about!!!! And no adult should call himself a citizen of our Republic unless he views this film and understand why Americans fought and gave their lives on that battlefield.

Summary: Awsome!
Review: This has got to be the greatest Civil War movie ever made. I've already seen it four times and have visited Gettysburg three. If you really want to know what the battle of Gettysburg was like, this is the video to watch. (Especially if you have home theatre like I do). Totally awsome!

Summary: Very good movie, however, it's best for buffs
Review: Anyone can get a whole lot out of this movie, but it is better if you are a Civil War buff like me. But, it is great, beautifully photographed, and its music makes John Williams jealous, for it certainly ranks among the best music made for a movie. Many complaints have been filed against the talking scenes, and some are in fact a little boring. But Chamberlain's speeches and Armistead's story are great. I think Jeff Daniels is in his best role ever, as is Berenger, but Sheen just doesn't quite say Lee to me. The battle scenes are good, but they really showed less than half of the battle. Oh, well, the movie would have been even longer if it was a definitive account of Gettysburg. Some elements are dramatized: To my knowledge, Tom Chamberlain never came across Lew Armistead. The parts with the spy seem a little shaky. Have you seen Glory? If I could, I would give it 6 stars, or 10. It very much captures the human aspect of the Civil War much better, and has better ensemble performances. Its also more realistic. The battle scenes are much less tame than those of Gettysburg. In Gettysburg, is there ever any bloodshed? Who out there thinks there should be another Civil War movie made? Personally, I think that Thomas Keneally's book CONFEDERATES would translate well to the screen. It would be gruesome, though.

Summary: Excellent movie, Jeff Daniels and Richard Jordan were superb
Review: The Gettysburg gift box set is a must for any Civil War buff. The directors cut adds so much more to the story, with the additional footage of John Bufford and his role at Gettysburg. We love the movie, the extras in the gift set are well worth it, the making of Gettysburg vidio, sound track, book, bullet and pictures. A definite collectors choice
