Rating: Summary: The Patriot Review: Mel Gibson is Benjamin Martin, a former soldier during the French and Indian war who is haunted by his brutality. Not wanting to have any part of American Revolution, he decides not to fight and to stay at home to protect his family. But when his son is killed, he begins to slip back into that savagery that made him so infamous during the French and Indian War.What sounds like a pale copy of Braveheart, The Patriot actually has some shinning moments. It is beautifully filmed; the cinematography (by Caleb Descahnel) is incredible. The battle scenes were incredible, it really showed how brutal combat in the 18th century was. For once CGI has been put to good use recreating the colonial ships of war, early American towns. The acting is decent. Mel Gibson is at his usual best as the 'on the brink/emotional/reluctant hero'. As for Jason Issacs as Colonel Tavington, he was over done and would have made a better Bond villain. The score by John Williams is not Star Wars caliber but excellent never the less. Despite the extremely fictionalized story (a screenplay by Saving Private Ryan's Robert Rodat) this is Roland Emmerich and Dean Devlin's finest film since Stargate. I give The Patriot four stars because of the beauty of the cinematography, and because I happen to love this period of history.
Rating: Summary: A great drama Review: Mel Gibson spiked up another great mix of "Brave Heart" and "Gladiator" in this flict. "The Patriot" is not just another movie to fit in the occation of the 4th of July; it explained why they fought and found a nation. There was a lot of violent but this is another war drama, and war always not pretty and glory like Hollywood depicted in the past. This time, we got to see the brutality that the British inflicted upon the civilians inorder to oppressed the colonist. This is the story of a man, who took care of his children and forced to bear arms and defend his family and later a cause that his love ones belived in.

Rating: Summary: Tries really hard to be Braveheart, but doesn't quite do it. Review: This film tries really hard to be Braveheart, but isn't. Film is worth seeing, but is a renter, not a buyer. If you're into period movies, the costumes and political conflict of the setting will appeal to you. Again, we have Gibson in the role of the reluctant hero pushed once too often. Again, his wife is dead from the onset, but this time the half-romance with his sister-in-law is outdone by an almost as weak performance between his son and fiance. Violence is gratuitous at times.
Rating: Summary: The Patriot Review: I loved the movie. Mel Gibson has again done something that we have come to expect of him everytime. The movie has some beautiful scene settings and near perfect action sequences. Mel Gibson's style of fighting in the movie reminded me of the scenes in The Last of The Mohicans. Roland Emmerich has created a masterpiece. Amazing acting by all, beautiful cinematography and a moving script.
Rating: Summary: Pretty Bad Review: I was drawn in by the commercials, but in the end, it was just a really long movie with too many main characters. Mel Gibson plays a reluctant soldier tormented by the war and his cliched lines. The relationships are trite; watch out for the son's love interest. The only surprises the movie has in store for viewers is the death of nearly every main character. The movie lacks closure. Pluses: a good villain, nice setting and adequate effects. If you want some Mel Gibson, see Chicken Run instead!
Rating: Summary: Mel Gibson does it again...! Review: The patriot is one of those movies in wich you totally disapear in. You forget everything arround you when you're looking this one. Beautifull costumes, scenery, music! If you loved Braveheart, don't hesitate...Buy today...You won't regret Enjoy..!
Rating: Summary: Braveheart meets the Revolution Review: This film is quite entertaining, and you will not believe how fast the time goes by, but this story has been told before. There are many parallels between this film and Braveheart. It pulls your heartstrings and also makes you stand up and cheer. It features family taken from Mel, and Mel's revenge. There is plenty of blood and guts, but not overkill. The film does a nice job of showing just how much damage a lead ball can do to a human being. I am a fan of Mel Gibson's work, and based on that, it is a film I recommend adding to your collection. The supporting cast is spectacular, and really make this an enjoyable movie.
Rating: Summary: Finally, A Good Movie About The Revolutionary War! Review: As far as war pictures go, Hollywood has, until this picture, pretty much been unable to capture the Revolutionary War in the emotional tempo that is necessary to make a battle movie decent. In "The Patriot," this feeling was captured in the same ways as classic war films like "Glory," "Patton," and (gee, I wonder why?) "Braveheart." While "The Patriot" really isn't as good as any of those three, it is still quite the entertaining motion picture. I will spare you the plot synopsis as the pros at Amazon.com seem to do a good enough job of that for you. This movie is well acted by all parts, especially Gibson. As you watch this film you will feel the familiarity of watching "Braveheart," and for good reason. The plot is quite similar, and Gibson once again plays a similar character. The difference this time around is the connection you will feel as an American. (Well, at least for us Americans, I guess...) While we watched "Braveheart" and were not only entertained but given a history lesson, with this, you will feel the familiarity of the setting as you brain reaches back to all that stuff we tried to forget about American history AFTER we graduated. It feels more... real, I guess. The biggest compliment I can give this film is not any I can type in here, but that I've ordered it, and from the looks of it, I've ordered it even before they've posted any special features. Four stars out of five is pretty good in my book, and I'm pretty sure that most people out there will enjoy this movie once they see it.
Rating: Summary: Muy Excellente! Review: This has got to be one of the most awesome historical action adventure movies to hit the screens yet. This and "Braveheart" definitely demonstrate that Mel Gibson is an actor way ahead of his time. The only reason this does not deserve 5 stars is because too many important people die, which saddens the audience very much so. Otherwise, an awesome movie.
