Summary: Excellent
Review: I thought This movie was EXCELLENT! it ranks among the top 3 best movies I have ever seen. I think this movie really needed to be made to show people how close we REALLY came to losing the America we have. The movie includes not only true events, etc., but it also made me laugh and cry. Don't take my word for it, buy it and see for yourself just how awesome this movie really is!

Summary: MEL GIBSON AT HIS BEST
Review: THIS MOVIE ONCE AGAIN LEFT ME COMPLETELY IMPRESSED AT HOW GOOD OF AN ACTOR MEL GIBSON REALLY IS. I WAS AWED.

Summary: Grab the Popcorn and Maybe Even the Kids!
Review: "The Patriot" offers plenty of action for Mel Gibson fans! But how can you have a subplot when there is not even a plot??!! The film's theme evokes memories of John Wayne and "The Fighting Seabees". The bloodthirsty Gibson and his mischievous son relieve the boredom and tension of their situation by carrying out a mission that would make even the outlaw hero of Sherwood Forest envious! Brilliant photography and an exciting story make this a fine adventure film. However, this nonsensical account of the Revolutionary War is characterized by its withholding of substantive information in favor of explicit violence. But South Carolina has never looked better, and somehow the film works enough that it's one of those rare occasions when I purchase a "3 star" DVD! The battle scenes although gruesome were surreal enough to possibly consider allowing a grade school child to watch. Despite being predictable and laced with bland cliches throughout, "The Patriot" has a truly old fashioned flavor to it, and provides a strong sensation that you are actually living during this time period!

Summary: DISTURBING MOVIE
Review: I found this movie to be very bothersome for many reasons which I can go into lengthy discourse about. If you see the movie and have a clear mind to think about what it portrays it should bother you as well. 1) The movie rationalizes The Patriot killing TWENTY men (with his children (5 and 6) helping out) for the life of one person -- the is NO NEED for that in a movie, just remove it. Its gratuitous and obscene 2) It is a COMPLETELY INACCURATE portrayal of history. It paints the British as complete evil bastards. No officer in their right mind would kill an entire village by burning them in a church. and no humane soldier would stand by and watch it happen. It is an unfair representation of the British army as heartless and barbaric, when in fact it was the American Militia that were thus (through their "guerrilla" warfare). 3) The movie uses human life as a method to evoke empathy on the part of the viewer. Again and again and again. Without giving the movie away (cause it really doesn't) EVERYONE dies. Everyone. Except the French guy. its LUDICROUS. It is a terrible method of writing and storytelling. There is no ground for a good story only a pathetic attempt to get at people's emotions by killing them in tragic ways.

This movie IS NOT BRAVEHEART. NOT by a LONGSHOT. Braveheart is a thoughtout film that does a good job of evoking humanity by not disgracing and disrespecting human life. There is a lot of violence, yes. But it does not use violence as a driving force behind the plot. The Patriot is a pathetic attempt to capitalize on Mel Gibson's popularity and recreate an excellent film.

Summary: Getting Tired of The Braveheart-Patriot Comparisons
Review: Like the majority I agree that both Braveheart and The Patriot come off as very much alike. But if you are a die-hard Mel Gibson fan like me, you have seen too many behind-the-scenes and interviews to call them the same. Yes, there are some similarities, but very small ones. For instance, William Wallace and Benjamin Martin start off wanting nothing to do with the war but are forced into it, both lose loved ones before fighting, they fight against the British, and they are both great war movies. But there are so many differences I am surprised they actually came off the same.Such as, Martin fights for his family along with the love for his country,Martin is a legend for his war experiences, the fights scenes in the two films are nothing alike, The Patriot has a mix of humor, saddness, and anger, plus the fact that the stories are completly unalike. So, those of you who havn't seen The Patriot yet, don't be fooled.

Summary: Don't expect historical accuracy
Review: This movie resorts to making the British worse than they were to hype its excitement for the audience. The American Revolution was more of a civil war in the South than most people realize. By watching this one might get the idea that it was just Americans against British. Americans fought each other also. The battles scenes represent no one battle nor were the British as bad as shown or the Americans as good as shown.

If you just want mindless entertainment than it is good. Just don't confuse it with real events.

Summary: Stop With the Negative Reviews!
Review: You can't NOT like this movie, or it would be unpatriotic. Gibson turns out his BEST role by far in this touching film that will make you laugh, make you cry, and make you proud to be an American. Yes, the British are the bad guys, but here's a news flash for those who've complained... THEY WERE our enemies, and who wants a villian who's a pussycat? The characters are deep, well-developed, the scenes vibrantly put together, and the storyline rich and one not to miss. I'm counting the days until I can purchase this on DVD. SEE IT, if you haven't already.

Summary: DISHONEST
Review: This is a dishonest movie. Everything here is pure Hollywood cliche. But, like in some modern painting full of meaningless traces and figures that nobody knows what's about, people wants to see messages of "love", "patriotism" or wherever in this garbage. GIBSON is clearly working for his paychech here. The screenplay is so terrible I almost left the theater at once. Everything is pure cliche: the villain that seems like the Devil himself, so bad he is; the ridiculous love plot between Gibson's character son and a lady; from scene one, you know who will live and who will die. THis is the worst kind of thing American Movi Industry can offer us. People get butchering theirselves all movie long, but are still capable of talking "deep" and "intelligent" dialogues, more or less like this: "I'm gonna kill you like I killed your sons". "No, I'm the one who's gonna kill you". All the while, beautiful classic music is playing as soundtrack. As we know, being slayed by a hammer, an axe or a sword must be a delightful experience ... Why "Last of THE MOHICANS" is much better ? WHy "BRAVEHEART" is so better ? Because they started as good-natured projects, but "THE PATRIOT" started from the first page with the only intention to get money, money, money. Blergh !

Summary: Very good Movie!
Review: This was a decent movie. A good film. The movie did an excellent job of helping the viewer appreciate the true sacrifice made by our founding fathers for democracy today. Sacrifice of family, property and life. Beyond that very credible message, good action flick too.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: A must own DVD!
Review: This movie shows what it means to be a true American. If you consider yourself patriotic you must own this movie.
