Summary: 'Indochine'
Review: The acting is absolutely wonderful...everything seems incredibly real. Even if you did not speak French and the subtitles were not included, every moment would be crystal clear. It often is difficult to forget that you are watching roles being played out when seeing a movie, but not in this case. Though it is rather long, every moment is important and interesting; there are no extraneous scenes or lines. You could watch 'Indochine' over and over again and never be tired of it.

Summary: Marxist metaphor
Review: Besides being a moving and beautiful film, I also noted that the life of the young Vietnamese daughter of Denueve was a clear metaphor for Marxists in general. Or, this film's writer's idea of them at least. To fight oppression and evil the young woman must become cold-hearted and give all to the cause and "the people", and she is baptized in violence. Although this is a debatable stereotype of Marxists and revolutions, it does make for an excellent human story.

Summary: Beauty and history, a story of Vietnam
Review: Having lived and worked in Vietnam for ten years, and being married to a Vietnamese woman who could have doubled for Miss Pham when we met thirty five years ago, its thumbs up and five stars from me. The French influence in South Vietnam is still very strong. Vietnam is as beautiful as reflected in this film. If, like me, you don't care for films with sub-titles, or things French, give this one a shot. You will be very glad that you did.

Summary: Sweeping Epic Saga
Review: This movie is a total masterpiece; romantic, dramatic, it captures a look on history of Vietnam & France that Americans rarely see. The scenery and costumes are gorgeous, the turning plots and storyline is anything BUT boring, and the characters are fascinating. (they're smoldering and gorgeous too actually.) I always, always show and lend this movie out to different friends, and I have never had anyone Not love it! Watch it, it'll change your views

Summary: Stirring and Wonderful
Review: Well, despite such reveiws from the noted critics, I thought this film deserved the Best Foreign Film Oscar by far. It caught my eye on television and I almost skipped it, accept for because one scene where Catherine and her adoptive daughter, Camille started to dance. I was stuck after that. I couldn't stop watching even though I had to read the subtitles, it never mattered. Please watch this film, even if the critics thought it "flat " or not Denvenue's "Best". I thought she was rather strong in the role and so were all the other actors. Must see foriegn Film!

Summary: Beautiful film
Review: This is my favorite movie. I think the plot is wonderfully developed and the cast does a magnificent job of portraying their characters. The style and setting of the movie are beautiful, as well. I've seen INDOCHINE 17 times and I always find something new and entertaining about it. I recommend it to anyone who has 2 1/2 hours to watch it and isn't bothered by subtitles. It really deserved the Academy award.

Summary: indochine
Review: What a fantastic movie. It covers so many different aspects of life in the 1930 colonial period. I though Linh Dan Pham did a terrific job. If any one know of her whereabout, please let me know.

Summary: Check for pulse!
Review: I thought most all of the cast was on airplane glue. Ms Deneuve's clothes were nice and the scenery--endless feet of film worth--was nice. Everytime I check out one of the foreign films cited as "best", I should remember to take a nap before viewing. Anyone who would leave home for Mr. Lopez and travel a kajillion miles, starve in a prison and become a commie as a result, must have lived a very sheltered life. I mean the guy Deneuve's daughter was to supposed to marry in the first place had more fire and imagination. Maybe Catherine wasn't the only one doin' opium!
