Rating: Summary: This film shows what love can inspire you to do! Review: Benigni's character is one of love, hope, and joy. The wonderful romance of capturing his wife to be's heart is followed by his demonstration of what love for life, family, and people can inspire you to do. His courage came through his comedy, and made us all believe that life is beautiful if you look at it through the heart as well as the eyes! Grazie et grazie Roberto!!!!
Rating: Summary: It IS beautiful Review: I have to agree with a previous reviewer. They are doing a great disservice to this phenomenal piece of work by dubbing it in English. If you want to see this movie - see it subtitled in English - part of the magic is in its original presentation. I was saddened to find out that it was going to be rereleased with English dubbing. Once again, we pander to the lowest common denominator.
Rating: Summary: I can't resist adding my 5 stars Review: Don't be hesitant because this is a foreign film. It is a truly wonderful film, and this movie is beautiful.
Rating: Summary: Life! Cry, laugh, hurt, love, heart toching in every way! Review: The film as Billy Cristal would say is "Absolutely Marvelous...It squezzes your heart out of every feeling possible. It will make you laugh at the beginning, it will make you cry of sorrow, it will make you love Roberto Benigni's Character and his son's innocence. it will hurt at the sight of the atrocities of the Holocaust. It will make you sob and have this feeling like some one is squezzing your heart and at the end it will make you cry of joy and sorrow! Viva Roberto Benigni!
Rating: Summary: The best I've seen Review: This is the only movie that I've seen four times--dragged my friends, relatives--anyone who would listen. The movie made me laugh, cry, and renewed my faith in the human condition. The performances were beautiful. This movie transported me, and I will never forget it.
Rating: Summary: A profound and inspiring statement about life and love. Review: Two love stories - of husband and wife and of father and son - provided the basis from which Roberto Benigni weaves a beautiful tapestry of life's most cherished experiences. Even amid the horror of the concentration camp, Benigni provides a perspective that not only helps his character's son survive, butit keeps us, the audience, uplifted and hopeful that everything will turn out okay. Ironically, despite a bittersweet ending, it does. Probably THE best movie I have ever seen.
Rating: Summary: Rebuttle to the one-star Review: This movie wasn't created for the sole purpose of representing the holocaust like Schindler's List, it was created to put a smile on your face and to show that even if humanity chooses to destroy, love will find a way. I am a student of Nazi Germany and I know full well the horrors of the Holocaust, but this movie is plain and simple a wonderful story.
Rating: Summary: Most amazing film of the year!!! Review: To add to the already large list of praise - if you have not seen this movie, you are missing out! Even if you don't generally enjoy foreign films, this is a must see. One of the most incredible films I've ever had the pleasure to enjoy.
Rating: Summary: This movie is about parental love of a child. Review: This film is one of the best-written and most unmanipulative films I have ever seen. It is hardly a "feel good movie" Although the story it self is improbable, it is real in emotion and exemplifies the love between two people and the love of parents for a child. That love is portrayed in a non-manipulative way. This story is based in one of the most horrible episodes in modern history. Although this is NOT a story about the holocaust, the story does show the real horror of the holocaust... which is how discrimination and the acceptance of murdering people was a part of daily life for the common person in the Nazi era. The horror of the camp does not need to be portrayed in a "Schindler's List" type of way. That is not the point of this movie. In fact I find Schindler's List much more manipulative in that it portrayed Nazis as so in human that we easily divorce ourselves from them. Well, sorry to say, but Nazis were every day people like you and me. That is the real horror of fascism. The people who reigned this terror on others during the 30's and 40's were former neighbors and friends. This movie not only takes on that most horrifying fact, but also brings forth discussion on: "How do we protect our children on a daily basis from the horrors in our society?". I think it would be very difficult for a person who does not have a parental type of love for a child to understand the second part of this movie.
Rating: Summary: One of the best movies ever made. Review: A comedy about the Holocaust. It sounds offensive beyond words. But it isn't. Roberto's genius pull's it off, and in the process makes a amazing movie. I am Jewish and strongly believe that the Holocaust should not be made light of. Fortunatly, this movie uses the comedy to contrast with the horrors of the camp, making them even more bluntly awful. However, if you want to see what the Holocaust really was like, watch Shindeler's List (sp?), which is, I think, the best movie ever made.
