Summary: A great find
Review: After a year and a half searching for anythign worth any amount of money in the home theater speaker industry, I have finnally found something. These speakers give some of the most amazing mid-bass of any system under $. Many cna claim to have a Mid-range but to have mid-bass, where the human voice resonantes, takes speaker cabniets. Sat/ systems with passive or powered subs cannot give good mid-tones because of the small size of the speakers. The highs are sharp and loud while the bass feels disconected with holes in the mid range. NOT THESE SPEAKERS...THEY ARE PERFECT FOR ME. I listen to huge ranges of music from jam/folk bands to hip-hop, while still enjoying stellar home theater sound. I tested all the systems in circuit city and bestbuy one day, and always came back to this one, even Bose. For rich smooth vocals to match the pleasent tones of the sax and deep gut moving phrases on bass, you need cabinet speakers. For the price you can't beat it. The sub is worth $. The speakers are made for Onkyo by a high-end outfit in Japan. Put it this way, i took my sister's boyfriend with me on the test run in Circuit City and he bought a set, so did a guy standing next to us. Spend thousands on Bose, and Infinity for thier name, but for under $ this is the system. Do remeber the speakers are not small little things, they are mid size speakers. I have them in a dorm room, they are't that big. Hope I helped.

Summary: Right for the price
Review: I looked and looked for the right set of speakers and then I ran across these. I was was going to go with Polk Audio until I heard these. I took them home and hooed them up. The sound is crystal clear. The differenc between these speakers and my old ones are the same as that of my widescreen HDTV and my old analog set. The only setback is the size.

Summary: Right for the price
Review: I set up these speakers in a home theater. the price was right, but the sound wasn't. While they were certainly passable, and allowed you to hear the movie in surround sound, or listen to music, in comparison to other speakers they just aren't good enough.

The sound from the main speakers was "muddy", lacked clarity and brightness. The subwoofer was distracting: not transparent and was clearly audible as a different speaker.

... I would only consider these if you were on an extremely tight budget and this was all you could spend.

Summary: worth it just for a subwoofer and/or rear speakers
Review: If you can get this set cheap and need a subwoofer and/or rear speakers, it's worth buying for that reason alone. I bought this set because of rave reviews at amazon and have found that it is a good set, but only as a starter set or for someone on a tight budget. The subwoofer is really great. The sound quality of the 2 front speakers is good, but a bit compressed, and I don't like the center speaker at all. I've opted to keep on using my 15 year old ADS 2-ways for my front speakers, and I'm using the Onkyo front speakers as my rear speakers. I'm not using the Onkyo rear and center speakers at all. Paired with the Onkyo subwoofer, I've got pretty good sound now... I can feel the bass rumble in the floor and the couch as I watch a movie in my 12x12 room, and the rear sound is immersive. My next step will be to drop some real cash on a substantial center speaker... I've learned that skimping here is a sure and quick path to disappointment.

Review: The ONKYO SKSHT500, or On-Key-Yo is a great speaker system for anybody who is a fan of high quality components and is looking to spruce up their HT (Home Theater). The speakers are great for movies, video games, and all sorts of music styles. I love putting in some rap and turning my receiver (Sherwood 7103) to my specialized setting for rap with the bass is all the way up. I really love going up stairs and felling it through 2 stories J The speakers are of great quality, I purchased the 16" speaker stands for the 2 front speakers (L and R). I think they deserve good-looking stands...Ive tried KLH, and for budget they are great since you can find them for [a low price] but they are not close to ONKYO, I mean you cant even touch them with a 100ft pole. I'm 17 and this is the final addition to my HT...If you need some speakers, don't sacrifice for less. And don't be played by the pictures, the 2 mains are about 16" tall!...The one and only disadvantage it that they are not even close to "compact" speakers so pick up some of those stands that they display them on...and...get the taller stands for the rear

Summary: Terrific sound, terrific value
Review: This complete surround sound system by Onkyo offers terrific, home-theater-quality sound. The speakers themselves look sleek, and they sound the best when you have a receiver that allows "mega bass". I could hardly believe my eyes when I saw them in a CC store for this price. After admiring the sound for ten minutes, two other customers and I each bought a set. This is one of the best purchases I've made this holiday season.
