Description:

It's never been easier to set yourself up for the excitement of immersive, discrete surround sound than it is with Yamaha's affordable NS-P236 speaker system. The NS-P236 is a 6.1-channel system offering front left/right, surround left/right, and a rear-center satellite/bookshelf speaker, a front center-channel speaker, and a 55-watt powered subwoofer (representing the ".1"), model YST-SW005. It also comes with all the wiring and mounting brackets required to integrate the system with your living room.

Be aware, however, that the system requires a 6.1-channel receiver for full enjoyment. If you're already set up for 5.1 sound (without the rear center-channel output), don't sweat it--you'll still get terrific performance (and you can always store one of the system's five satellite speakers for later on).

The satellites and the center-channel speaker all use acoustic-suspension designs with dual 2-inch drivers, and all are capable of handling amplifier power up to 100 watts (30 watts nominal power). The powered sub packs the most "under the hood," so to speak, with Yamaha's patented Advanced Active Servo Technology (Advanced YST) generating incredible bass from its small enclosure. Advanced YST uses negative-impedance feedback in the amp and a Helmholtz resonator in the speaker to provide strong and accurate bass.

The user-adjustable high-cut filter, with settings for "high" and "low," sets the highest frequency the subwoofer will deliver. This allows the sub's output to be matched to the lowest reproducible frequency of the other speakers in the system and the room's acoustics for a seamless presentation.

A rotary volume control permits the perfect matching of the sub's output to the overall volume of the system. The YST-SW005 has a signal-sensing circuit, too. When the subwoofer detects an audio signal, it turns its power on. When it senses no signal for several minutes, it shuts itself off.

Two sets of inputs let the sub accept either line- or speaker-level inputs, while a handy phase normal/reverse switch makes it easy to phase the subwoofer with the other speakers in your system (room placement greatly affects phase relationships).

What's in the Box
Five satellite speakers, a center-channel speaker, a subwoofer, all requisite cabling (including an RCA subwoofer interconnect), satellite mounting hardware, four non-skid subwoofer pads, and a user's manual.
